Chased by the Past
I made this for you (Jack POV)
When I came back to the hotel, I could see the surprise in Alex’s eyes. The first thing he said was: “Oh my god wait a second, I will change,” but I held him back. I kissed him on the cheek and gave the rose to him. He smelled it, and giggled girlishly.
I led him on the street. A cab was waiting already and we got in. I told the driver he could go, I had talked to him before. Alex was confused by now, not knowing where I was planning on taking him. He wanted to say something but I silenced him by gently kissing his lips.
“Shh, just wait,” I whispered, smiling.
“But-“ – “No buts, Mr Gaskarth.”
Alex pouted, it was absolutely adorable. I was getting a little nervous now. But we arrived and I didn’t have any more time to overthink. I helped Alex out of the car. He looked around, and his eyes widened.
We were on the coast of Lake Ontario. There was a picnic blanket and a basket positioned perfectly so you had a fantastic view over the Lake. I was relieved Alex seemed to like it.
“Are you hungry?” I asked him. “Yeah, I sure am. What have we got?” He sat down on the blanket, his cramel hair shining in the sun. I opened a sunshade to protect him from the sun. After some time, my boyfriend had found what he wanted: a sandwich and peanut butter. He happily munched away while I tried to not let my nerves get me.
I had about one and a half hours until sunset. To fill this time, I had brought something along with me. My guitar. I had brought it beforehand, and when Alex had finished his Sandwich, I went and got it.
I played a few chords to get myself used to it.
“Alex, you’re the one I want,
You’re the one I need
To keep in my heart.
I love you so much,
And I’ll never let you go…”
…
When I was finished with playing, I was almost crying with fear that Alex would not like it. But when I opened my eyes, he sat there, big, round eyes, a little watery. His smile could’ve gotten the ice caps to melt because it was so cute. I set down my guitar and went to him.
“Alexander William Gaskarth.” I got on my knees, “I know we have not been together for long, but I am as sure as I can be. I love you with all my heart, and I don’t ever want to lose you. You are my soulmate, my second half.”
I fumbled around in my pocket and held up the small box when I had found it. I looked up to Alex and saw him grinning from ear to ear, but I could also see some tears.
“Alex Gaskarth. Will you marry me?”
I brought up the courage to look in Alex’s eyes; my heart was in my mouth. He looked like a little kid you put into a room full of cotton candy.
“Jack, I want to. But I am scared I am too much of a burden for you, with all my mental problems and such.”
“Alex, I don’t care. I want to help you get better. I am asking you again, will you marry me?”
“Yes, Jack, with all my heart. I love you.”
I felt like I was going to faint. I was incredibly relieved, and over the moon. Trembling, I got the ring out of the box and slid it on Alex’s finger. He looked at it and I could see his eyes light up. I kissed him.
I couldn’t believe it, I was officially engaged. I had a fiancé. We would have to go to New York for the wedding, but I didn’t care, as long as the whole thing ended with the both of us and two rings.
Alex snuggled into my chest, and I noticed he was crying. “Alex, dandelion, what is wrong?” I was really scared he’d say something like “I’ve changed my mind, I don’t wanna marry you,” but he told me it were only happy tears. That was such a load off my mind!
I could feel myself drifting off to sleep, but I didn’t care; my now fiancé was curled up on/next to me.
I woke up from Alex tugging at the hem of my button down. “Jay, I’m cold… Can we leave?” The sun had already set, and I felt cold too. So we packed up and called a cab. Five minutes later, we were sitting in the cab, on our way back to the hotel. I sent a text, and soon got a reply.
‘I’ll do as you say. Operation Qt starts now. –D’
‘Be there in 5. –J’
At the hotel, we hurried to get upstairs. When we entered the room, I was back at the peak of excitement. When Alex saw it he squealed.
“Jack, are we going to keep them? Pleeeassseee Jacky! They are so adorable!”
I couldn’t help but feel like a dad talking to his overly excited son when I said yes. Alex picked up the black kitten with the lighter fur stripe and cradled it is his arms, and I really tried not to imagine him doing that with a baby because that much cuteness would’ve blown my mind. I sat down on the bed next to the brown one and pet it.
I looked up at Alex and smiled. He smiled back.
“I love you, baby dandelion.”
"I love you too, little sunflower.”
