Chased by the Past
Relax, honey (Alex POV)
Jack had led me to the car and after that, things were pretty much not interesting to me anymore. It felt like I was dead inside, like something had shut off.
When we arrived at the hotel, I slowly became better. Jack held my hand as we walked to our room. I was still not okay, but everything felt clearer. Unfortunately, with this also came anxiety. A lot of it. I tried to ignore it but it was overwhelming. I broke down on the bed, sobbing. Jack helped me calm down, and we cuddled up close to each other under the fluffy covers.
Two hours later, I woke up. It was 2pm. Jack had disappeared. I didn’t know where to, but I hoped he was well. I tried to fall asleep again, but I couldn’t. So I got up and made myself some tea. I set up the kettle when I noticed something on the table.
It was an envelope. I went over and looked at it. It was finest paper and addressed at me. I opened it and looked inside.
“Dear Alex,
I am out to organise something I hope you like. Make yourself comfortable, but be ready to go out at 4pm. I will pick you up. Wear just your usual clothing. I love you. <3
Yours forever,
Jack <3”
My initial reaction was to be a little scared. After all, he said he was ‘organising’ something for me. But the ‘wear just your usual clothing’ calmed me down a bit. However, I still wanted to look my best when he was taking me out. So I decided to take a bath. It would also have the effect of calming me and making my urge to cut less, which was also very useful.
I poured in three small bottles of the bathing foam I had ordered from the hotel. All my other styling must-haves were there as well, having been brought by a cute, blushing concierge girl. I slipped out of my boxers and my t-shirt and sank down into the hot water.
Goodness me, that hurt on my wounds. But it was so warm and relaxing. I switched on my iPod and listened to some Blink-182. I put foam all over myself and scrubbed off the dirt. I was careful not to open my wounds. I knew it was technically not allowed for me to take a bath just yet, but I wanted to.
When I had sufficiently soaked, I got out and showered, to be totally clean. I proceeded to apply body lotion to every inch of my body, so I would smell good. I went to choose my clothes, and settled for some grey skinnies and a blue button-down. My hair still needed to be taken care of, so I styled it to perfection. After using about half a can of hairspray, I was finally satisfied. I looked at my watch. It was a quarter to four. I got really nervous and stuffed some things into my pockets. Then, the door opened.
It was Jack, holding a deep red rose, wearing a button down as well, and a tie. Why was he holding a rose and wearing a tie?!
