Before we entered the cell, I had been pretty relaxed, as relaxed as you can be if your boyfriend is about to meet his rapist, of course. The moment I saw Rian, all that relaxation was drained from my body. He was kneeling on the ground, with a small box in his hands, the exact position you are in when you propose to someone. I could feel Alex tense up next to me. Rian opened his mouth.

“Alexander Gaskarth, will you forgive me?” He opened the box. “Take this bracelet as a promise that I will never hurt you again. I love you. I am so sorry, I can explain it all to you.”

Alex stood still. He started to tremble. Inside the box was a beautiful, probably self-made bracelet out of strings. A surge of jealousy came up in me, but it was quickly stopped by Alex turning on his heel and leaving. I followed him, scared he would do something stupid. But he was too quick for me and slammed the bathroom stall’s door right in front of me. I could hear muffled sobs and him searching his pockets. I had a suspicion on what he was doing.

“Alex, what are you doing?” I asked. He didn’t reply but the searching got more frantic. When he had finally found what he wanted, I could hear paper unfolding. He was silent for a moment, and then I could see a drop falling to the floor. It was red.

“Alex, please talk to me!” No reply. “That’s it, I’m coming in.” I jumped and grabbed hold of the top of the stall door. I easily swung my legs over it, the fear giving me extra energy.

Alex sat in one corner, razor blade in one hand, wrist dripping with blood on the other side.
“Jay, I’m sorry. It just got too much. Please don’t hate me.”

I could feel tears in the corners of my eyes. I crouched down next to Alex and pulled him into a hug.

“Alex, I love you. I could never hate you. How about you give me that blade?” I said as I gently took the blade from his grip. “I can understand this all is getting a little too much. How about we bandage your wrist and then make our way out of here? We still have a DVD to watch.”

Alex nodded, tears streaming down his face. I grabbed some toilet paper and pressed it to his wrist, careful not to hurt him too much. Alex used his other hand to rummage in his pockets again, and produced a bandage. I wrapped it around his lower arm, tight, but not too tight.

We left the cubicle 15 minutes later, after Alex had cried some more and I had held him close and sang the lullaby to him. He had to give a short protocol of the attempted rape and do a line-up to identify Rian as the real rapist, and then we could leave.


Rian POV
Alex did not forgive me. Alex did not forgive me. Alex did not forgive me.

It was all I could think of. The first few seconds after he had left the cell, I had been numb. But then, the impact of what just happened hit me. I started to cry like a baby. Zack was still there, and strangely enough, he sat down next to me to comfort me. I could feel the same feeling that I had had right before I went to the hotel room the other day, like I was floating away, but his touch kept me there.

He stayed with me for a long time, until I had to go to a line-up. Even then, he only left my side for the time I had to be without him. I was confused beyond normal, I was here for trying to rape Alex, and he comforted me, hugged me?

Then he explained. “Rian, I feel disgusted about what you did to Alex. But I understand it was not you. I want to help you. Please let me help you. I will be here for you.”
