Drawn To Each Horizon
Fifteen
Alex POV:
“So what are we going to do today?” I pulled Olivia onto my chest.
“We should get set up for Christmas.” She smiled. “It’s going to be our first one together.”
“Alright,” I brushed the hair out of her eyes. She smiled up at me, looking amazing and effortlessly beautiful. It was mornings like this that I loved the most, when she looked perfect without even trying.
“I love you.” I whispered to her before watching her get out of bed. She was wearing one of my old shirts to bed, like she always did. She told me that she wore them when I was gone so she could have a part of me while I was on tour. Her bare legs looked perfect as she went into the bathroom. I walked in there after her and watched as my shirt hit the floor. I smiled at her bare body going into the shower. I went into the closet and grabbed some clean clothes; I showered last night after Liv fell asleep on me. Playing with Cope really drained her energy. This was a bummer because I wanted to play too. I slipped a GK shirt over my head along with some skinnies and a pair of combat boots. My jacket was downstairs so I didn’t have to worry about that. I decided to go downstairs and make some breakfast while Liv was getting ready. I made some coffee and decided that pancakes would be a great idea (since she loved them so much). I was leaning over the stove getting ready to flip the pancakes when I felt a pair of hands hug me from behind.
“You got ready quick.” I laughed and turned to face Liv.
“No I didn’t, you just took a long time to cook.” She smiled.
“Well I want it to be perfect.” She wrinkled her nose when I kissed it.
“You spoil me.” She giggled me.
“Only because I love you,” I smiled down at the beautiful girl in front of me.
“Smells like the pancakes are burning.” She laughed.
“Oh shit.” I turned back around and flipped the pancakes quickly to see that they were the perfect golden brown. “No they aren’t.”
“I had to keep you on track.” She laughed and poured herself a cup of coffee. She fixed it to her liking before grabbing a cup for me along with plates and silverware. I got the pancakes onto the plates while Liv got out some fruit and syrup. She grabbed some strawberries and set them next to her pancakes before dumping syrup onto them. I followed her routine and set everything back in the fridge. I poured myself a cup of coffee and sat down at the table next to her. We ate quickly, due to the excitement of getting a tree.
“I’ll do dishes.” She volunteered and picked up my plate, taking it over to the sink. I watched her as she scrubbed them with a sponge and rinsed them off. She set them down on a towel so they could dry and then she grabbed her purse and walked out the door with me.
We got to the nearest tree farm and went out into the “forest” with a saw in my hand. We wandered around for about an hour until I stumbled upon a good looking tree. It was pretty full but there were a few sparse spots, which could just face the wall I guess.
“How about this one?” I asked.
“Hmm, it’s a good tree but I don’t know if it’s the right one.” She rubbed her chin and wandered around some more. I’m pretty sure we’re hopeless now. We’ve been here for so long and my fingers are going numb.
“Baby I found it!” I heard her squeal from a short distance away. I jogged over to her to see, in fact, the perfect tree. It was just the right height for our house and it was full enough without being too wide.
“It’s perfect.” I wrapped my arms around her chest and kissed her forehead. Her back was pressed against me while we admired our tree.
“Hey John, I found a tree.” I heard someone call from the other side of the tree.
“Wow Lisa, it’s perfect.” I heard someone else say.
“Um excuse me, but this is our tree.” Liv went around to the other side to talk to the other couple. I realized that she’d never seen Lisa before so she didn’t know what Lisa looked like. And the other way around, too.
“If it was yours you would’ve cut it down by now.” Lisa snapped.
“Hey c’mon, can’t you just get another tree?” I asked when I got around to the other side.
“No Alexander, I most certainly cannot.” She hissed. “So this is your new skank?”
“Stop fucking talking about her like that and get another god damn tree.” I was furious now. Not only was she trying to take my tree, but now she’s insulting my girlfriend? This isn’t happening today.
“No way, I like this tree and I’m going to get it.” She crossed her arms and attempted to give me a sassy look.
“Just get another fucking tree.” Liv threw her arms in the air.
“C’mon let’s just find another one.” John tried to pull Lisa away from us.
“Hell no,” she lashed out and punched Liv in the face.
“Fucking get away!” I stood in front of Liv and pushed Lisa away.
“Let’s go,” John dragged her away, but not without a fight. I turned towards Liv once they were out of sight.
“Are you okay baby?” I moved her hands out of her face so I could see the tears in her eyes. I could see a black eye starting to form already. Well there goes our perfect day.
I had Zack and Jack come get the tree for us so I could take Liv home to fix her up. Her makeup was ruined by her tears but she didn’t look any less perfect with a black eye. It broke my heart to see her like this. She held the frozen pea bag up to her swollen eye and frowned. Why would Lisa lash out at Liv? She didn’t do anything but stand her ground. If anyone deserves to be beaten up, it’s me. I didn’t protect Liv like I should have.
“I’m sorry.” I whispered into Liv’s hair. She was sitting in my lap in our bed. I just wanted to hold her close and never let go.
“Baby, it’s okay.” She leaned her head back into my shoulder.
“No it’s not.” I wiped a tear away. “I didn’t stop her when I should’ve there was no excuse for her to hit you like that.”
“No Lex, I’m sorry.” She frowned and looked up at me with sad eyes. “I’m sorry that you dated that pathetic bitch on and off for years.”
“Me too,” I held her tighter and closer to me. She was right. I shouldn’t have wasted all those years dating Lisa when I could’ve been happy with someone else. But then again, if things with Lisa weren’t broken then I wouldn’t have gotten to be with Olivia.
“Actually I’m not sorry for dating her.” This earned a confused and hurt look from Olivia. “Because if I didn’t I wouldn’t have gotten the most amazing girl on the planet.”
“You’re so sweet.” She smiled and placed a soft kiss on my lips. “I think I’m going to go shower and wash all of the bitch off.”
“Want me to go in with you?” I offered.
“No thanks baby, I’ve got it.” I went into the bathroom and helped her out of her clothes anyways. I pulled her into my chest again and held her bare body against my clothed one. I turned on the water and kissed her head.
“I’ll go make some dinner,” I whispered softly, “What do you want to eat?”
“Can we just order some Chinese food?” She asked. I knew my cooking wasn’t that great. Matter of fact, the only thing I can really cook is pancakes. That’s why I make it for breakfast all the time. But Olivia’s cooking is to die for, when we have the right ingredients that is.
“Of course we can baby.” I held her chin with my hand and tilted her head up so her sad eyes met mine. “I love you baby.” I whispered against her lips before kissing her tenderly, but lovingly. I let go of her so she could shower and I went downstairs to order the food.
