Drawn To Each Horizon

Olivia POV:

“So we started talking about maybe going on a couple’s vacation.” Alex explained what happened last night. I’m surprised he remembers since he got so drunk last night. Of course all the girlfriends and wives had to stay sober because all the guys were getting drunk. We were eating breakfast at IHOP with Jack, Zack, Rian, and Cass.

“That sounds like fun.” I smiled and took a bite of my pancakes.

“Yeah I think you guys should go on a little retreat.” Zack nodded.

“So where are you guys going?” Jack asked.

“Well we haven’t really talked about it but we’d probably go to an island or on a cruise.” Alex shrugged.

“I love cruises.” I perked up.

“How many have you been on?” Jack asked.

“Five.” I thought about it for a minute. “Yeah, because I’m a silver Disney cruise member.”

“Disney cruise?” Alex asked.

“Oh my gosh they’re so fun!” I smiled.

“That’s a lot of cruises.” Jack pointed out.

“Yeah I’ve been going since I was a wee one.” I laughed.

“And I’m over here, a virgin to Disney cruises.” Alex laughed.

“Maybe we should do that for the vacation.” I suggested.

“I don’t know we should be having this conversation with all of them.” He placed his arm around my shoulder and kissed my head.

“I don’t know if we’re going.” Rian said.

“Yeah we just got back from our honey moon in Hawaii.” Cass shrugged. “I don’t think we’ll go on vacation for a while.”

“Anyways thanks for breakfast Jack.” Zack said.

“What? I didn’t volunteer.” He argued as the rest of us shuffled out of the restaurant quickly before he could escape the bill. I laughed with Alex as we hopped into his car. All of the guys and their wives were still in town so we decided to have them come over so we could plan this trip. It would’ve made more sense if we’d just gone out to breakfast with them but oh well. Alex pulled into the garage to leave room for the other couples. I got out and went into the kitchen to make some coffee. It was already eleven but who denies coffee before noon? Alex had his laptop out and started to make notes of the places that he was interested in going to. I already knew what I wanted to do, go on vacation with my lovely boyfriend. I could care less about the place; I just want to be with my baby. I heard a knock on the door.

“I’ll get it.” Alex started to get up from his spot at the table.

“Sit your ass down.” I laughed and went to greet our guests. I opened the door to see Brittany and Matty smiling.

“Hey there!” I let them inside and hugged Brittany.

“It’s great to see you again!” Matty hugged me afterwards.

“I just saw you guys last night.” I laughed. “And I made coffee.”

“I think I might just need a cup.” Matty took off his jacket and set it on the nice coatrack we had. Brittany followed his suit and they took off their shoes at the front door since it was snowy outside.

“Do you guys want some slippers or something?” I asked. “We have about fifty pairs just in case someone’s feet get cold.”

“I’ll take a pair please.” Brittany followed me over to the closet that we had near the front door. I grabbed a fuzzy pair for her and a “manly” pair for Matty. I don’t think slippers are really manly but they’re cozy so who cares. We walked into the kitchen area to see Alex still hunched over his computer with his brows furrowed.

“Baby, you gonna say hi?” I asked.

“Oh hey guys, what’s up?” He looked up from his computer and did a half smile. Every time he does that smile it makes my heart melt.

“Not much,” Matty sat down in front of Alex.

“Well we do fly out tomorrow.” Brittany followed behind me to the kitchen. I poured two cups of coffee and let her fix them to their own likings. She handed Matty a cup and kissed his head.

I heard the doorbell go off and I went to answer it while the others made small talk about who knows what. I opened the door and let Beau and Val inside.

“Welcome to our humble abode.” I laughed as they made themselves cozy. I got them slippers, just like I did with Matty and Brit, and let them help themselves to the coffee. Only a few short moments later Kate and Kellin were at the front door with baby Cope wrapped up in her winter gear.

“Hey guys.” I pulled Kate into a hug first and then Kellin. “How are you Cope?” She giggled and held out her hands for me. I held her and laughed at her cuteness. Kate and Kellin took off their jackets and shoes while I helped Cope out of hers. I grabbed them some slippers without even asking if they were needed and led them into the kitchen.

We were all sat down in the living room now, some on the floor with baby Cope and so many cups of coffee on the table. Luckily we have different mugs so everyone can tell the difference between them. I had Cope sitting in my lap so Kells and Kate could have a break from being parents for a little bit. Alex was playing “Boss” while the boys sat next to him. Kate and Brit were up on the couch while Val and I were sitting on the ground. I didn’t mind it because being with Cope was so much fun. Val would make faces to make her laugh and we’d play peek-a-boo with her while the others were up to adult business. Being around Cope made me want to have a baby of my own someday, not right away but I’d like to settle down with Alex and start a little family of our own. I think I could be a great mom if I wanted to. I mean I was always the most mature of my friends in high school.

“So we’ve narrowed it down to a few places.” Alex’s lovely voice shook me from my thoughts.

“Okay so Hawaii because, well, who doesn’t want to go?” Kellin laughed.

“Then there’s Bora Bora of course.” Matty nodded.

“Let’s not forget Fiji.” Beau added.

“And then there’s the option of a cruise.” Alex said. “Shall we discuss the pros and cons of these now?”

“Why not,” I shrugged and sat Cope down in between Val and I.

“Starting off with Hawaii,” Kellin started, “It’s like the best Island get away ever. Plus we could go to any one of the islands that we want, since there are a few to choose from. And then we could go on a hike up the volcano and go snorkeling and even go to a luau.”

“But the cons are that we’re staying on one island because taking a boat from island to island would be expensive.” Beau said. “So we were thinking southern Maui or Honolulu.”

“And moving on to Bora Bora,” Matty started. “It’s perfect for romance and it’s one of the most gorgeous islands ever. The resorts are perfect because they’re these little huts with straw on the roof. It looks pretty rustic on the outside but the inside is fully functional and really nice if I do say so myself.”

“Downsides are how fucking long it would take to get there,” Kellin said, “and the fact that this is a vacation for all of us. It’s not a honey moon.”

“Shall we move on to Fiji?” Beau asked before acting as charming as he could to get us to pick his choice. “So first of all there are so many adventurous things to do on these islands that it’s not even funny. There are quad tours, eco tours, we could go sailing, take a day cruise, go scuba diving, go on a scenic flight over the islands, and the list goes on and on.”

“But the cons are that it will take a really long time to get there and the fact that not all of us have as much energy as you guys do.” Kate laughed. “I don’t think we could fit all that into one vacation.”

“And now to my choice, a cruise.” Alex smiled at me before continuing with his pros. “You aren’t stuck in one place because you visit so many other places along the way. And there’s a spa, pools, restaurants, Disney characters, movies, tours, and so much more cool stuff.”

“Cons.” Matty frowned. “You’re stuck on a boat, what if you get seasick?”

“Take medication for it.” I said. “They sell some on board.”

“Okay and what about food?” He asked.

“It’s complimentary unless you go to the fancy adult restaurant.” I explained. Once we had all stopped discussing the pros and cons of the vacations we sat and thought about where we wanted to go. To make it a fair and even, Beau decided that we place our votes into a hat and we would tally up the votes. I wrote down my choice onto the paper. I hope everyone else would agree.

Notes

Wow guys, so what do you think about the whole "vacationing with other couples" thing? I thought it was the greatest thing ever because after I wrote this chapter, they talked about going on a cruise in Full Frontal (I write them far in advance by the way, just because I hate being pressured to write at a certain time ((sorry I'm stubborn)) so I just thought that I'd share that. (And yeah, Disney cruises are fun bro.)

Liv's outfit will be the same for the next chapter as well :)

Let me know in the comments where you think they're going? I love hearing from you awesome readers!
