You're not a Hero, You're a Liar
Laura's POV
Zack's been acting really weird lately. I don't know what's going on. You'd think he'd be happy, we're off tour so we've had plenty of time to spend together. But he's taken every minute to avoid me.
I guessed this would happen at some point. I mean I'm still a sixteen year old. I can't be that interesting. I was never really worth his time.
At least, this is what I tell myself to justify sitting on a Baltimore street corner taking a blade to my wrist for the first time in months. It's too much. I don't know what to do, and I can feel myself breaking. I decide to call Jack and Alex. If you can't trust your two gay best friends with something, then who can you trust?
"Hello?"
"Hey Jack. Can I come over to you and Alex's place? I need to talk."
"Of course, kiddo. You're always welcome here. Will Zack be joining you?"
I swallow hard. "No. Thanks Jack-o, I'll be there soon."
I get up off the sidewalk, and head towards Jack's house. It's about a ten minute walk, no big deal. And it'll give these cuts some time to heal.
Zack's POV
"I love you, Lisa."
"I love you too Zacky. So when are we finally going to tell people about us? Now that Alex has come out, he won't mind you dating his ex."
I open my mouth, almost to tell her the truth. Yeah, Alex wouldn't mind me dating his ex. If I wasn't dating our keyboard player. Laura. I love her, but it's just not enough. And by not enough I mean I can't have sex with her, so I've been sleeping with Lisa to make myself feel better.
But I don't feel good. I know what I'm doing is wrong. I also don't care. Lisa's hot.
"Soon, babe." I grinned at her. "Now come on. We've only got a few hours, let's make the most of them."
She smiles contentedly at me, and follows me into the bedroom. Soon I've forgotten about everything.
Laura's POV
"I don't know what's wrong with Zack, but he's been avoiding me like the plague."
"Oh Laura." Jack and Alex sighed in unison.
"I feel like I'm losing him, and myself in the process. I just don't know what to do."
"Did you guys fight or anything?" Alex asked.
"No, not exactly. He wanted sex, and I told him that I wasn't ready. He got a little upset over it, but also said he understood."
"Ohhhhhhhh. He's probably just trying to give you space." Jack reassured me.
"Yeah, I think the best thing you could do would be to go to him, now. Tell him you love him." Alex said.
"Okay, thanks guys." I gave them both huge hugs and practically skipped out to Zack's apartment.
If it'll make him happy, if it'll bring my Zacky back, then I'll do it. Using my spare key, I unlock his apartment. Huh. I don't see him. He'd normally be in the living room. Oh well, I wasn't supposed to be back for a few hours. I hear a noise come from the bedroom. He must be taking a nap.
I sneak toward the room, hoping to surprise him. Opening the door, I was the one surprised instead.
"Who the fuck are you?" I said it before I even had a chance to think it through. The girl making out with my boyfriend on his bed immediately got up. Then I saw him, smiling at her before he heard me and his jaw dropped.
"Laura, babe? What are you doing here?" He asked.
"I need to ask you the same, Zack. What are you doing?" I said, starting to cry.
Zack's POV
Oh shit. It's Laura. LIke an idiot, I just ask her what she's doing here. God, she's already crying. What have I done?
"Look, Laura...." I started, but she cut me off.
"Don't worry about it Zack. I know I was never good enough. I was going to try. You know, I came here with the intention of letting you do what you wanted. But I can see you don't need me for that. I'll grab my stuff and go. Have fun with your new girlfriend. I'll see you for band practice next week."
And she was gone.
