Find a Place for Me Again

Twenty

"Morning Birthday Boy," Kenzie greeted me with a tray of my favorite breakfast foods resting over her bump as she carried it into our room.

"Thank you," I replied as Kenzie placed the tray in front of my as I sat up. She was really big now at 26 weeks, but she was so damn beautiful.

"I have an appointment today with for a sonogram today. We'll get to see how the baby is doing so far," Kenzie told me as she took a seat in our bed with me.

"I'm really excited. If we wanted to know the baby's gender, this would be the appointment I think. But I want to be surprised still," I replied before I kissed her tenderly and rubbed her very prominent tummy, earning me a kick from the baby that made us both smile.

"The baby is always very active when you touch me," Kenzie smiled as she placed her delicate hand over mine.

"I have an idea for a boy's name," I spoke up after I took a bite of my toast.

"Well I have a girl's name in mind too," Kenzie replied.

"For a son I was thinking Peter Alexander. Name our son after me and my dad. Plus Peter Pan is my favorite Disney movie," I told her.

"I was thinking Alexandra Noel, to name our daughter after you and we'd call her Alexa for short," she replied.

"I like that name. So those are our choices depending on which gender we have," I kissed Kenzie again before I went to finish my breakfast.
Kenzie and I were lounging in our living room, the TV was playing in the background while we flipped through my baby album my mom had left with Kenzie so she could get an idea on what our baby might look like if he or she took after me more.

I was pulled away from the book when Kenzie let out a scream of pure pain. I put the book on the table and I knelt in front of Kenzie. I was watching her and then I saw a puddle form under her. I freaked out.

"Alex, something's wrong," Kenzie panted, "I think my water just broke."

"Stay here, Kenzie. I'll go pack up a bag for the hospital and grab some other stuff we'll need," I kissed her forehead and ran off through the house.

I went into the nursery first and grabbed the diaper bag we bought a couple weeks ago and loaded it with a couple newborn diapers, a couple onsies, a few pairs of socks, and a binkie. I then went into mine and Kenzie's room and grabbed a couple changes of clothes for Kenzie and I along with toothbrushes for us and some razors for me to shave. I grabbed my macbook from my small desk in the room and put it in the case with the cord. I grabbed our jackets and ran downstairs.

I wasn't going fast enough because Kenzie was riding through another contraction, her screams filling the house. I grabbed my car keys and phone and went to the car to load it up and start it. I ran back inside and put Kenzie's shoes on and walked her to the car.

"Something's wrong, Alex. The baby's way too early," Kenzie sobbed as she held onto my hand as I drove her to the hospital.

"I know, but all we can do is hope the baby'll be alright," I told her.

I parked the car close to the emergency doors and went to grab a nurse and a wheelchair for Kenzie. I came back and Kenzie was screaming in pain again. Her screams were only thirty minutes a part. I was getting worried. She was in preterm labor and I was concerned for her health and the health of the baby.

And here's the pitch...

Comments

So I just read what you have of this, and I'm sad to see it was never finished. :(
It's a bit rushed at some parts, but I really like the concept of it. It surprised me that you had him gain his memory back kind of quickly; I thought for sure the twist was going to be he was going to lose it again or something. I found it a bit odd how that was kind of the plot for the first half, and then this second part kind of diverted from it. But I really like what you have of it, it's really sweet. :)
If you ever choose to finish it, I will be here to read. Although I think a final chapter wrap-up would totally work for this, if you're struggling for inspiration. Just a final update to conclude it.
You're a great writer, and so, I just wanted to leave a comment letting you know that, and to show that people are still stumbling across this and reading it. :)

I can tell. You've been very productive. You made a baby in a weekend. Another new chapter?! I feel so spoiled.
