As the branches begin to break
Lucky to have you
I'm on my last night in hospital. The doctors finally think I'm stable enough to go home, but Alex has to stay with me until my parents get back. It's only a week and a half now until they return and I'm really not looking forward to it.
"Hey Lauren" Alex said as he walked into the room.
"Hey Alex" I smiled at him.
"Um, there's someone here to see you" He said.
"What are you talking about Alex?" I asked.
"Just, wait here a sec" He said.
"Where else am I gonna go?" I laughed as he left the room. He came back in 5 minutes later.
"Just don't hate me, okay?" He sounded worried. I just nodded slightly.
"You can come in now" He shouted through the door. I looked over and saw Jack walk in. I looked at Alex.
"I spoke to him Lauren, and I think you should do whatever you think's best." Alex said.
"Well Lauren, do you forgive me?" Jack asked. I thought for a moment.
"Yeah" I smiled. Jack and Alex smiled too and I was engulfed in a very awkward lying down group hug.
"So what do you all wanna do?" Alex asked.
"Um, in case you forgot, I'm stuck in hospital for 1 more night. I can't exactly do anything" I laughed.
"Oh yeah" Alex replied.
"Well, this calls for one thing. SLEEPOVER!" Jack shouted. I laughed.
"Where are you two gonna sleep?" I asked.
"On the floor" Jack replied. I just laughed at the two boys laying on the floor and pretending to sleep. We stayed up until 11 just talking about our past when the nurse came in and told me to go to sleep. Alex and Jack were snoring within 5 minutes, but I just led there awake for another 2 hours, just thinking. Before finally falling into a nice peaceful sleep.
I woke up the next morning to the sound of doctors and nurses talking all around me. I looked around trying to find Alex and Jack, but I couldn't see them anywhere. One of the doctors looked down at me and then back up at the rest of the now silent doctors.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"We're discussing about your return home. We don't know if it's a good idea to send you back until your parents get home" He said. My blood ran cold and my face went pale.
"No, I'll have Jack and Alex. They'll look after me, I promise" I begged. They thought it over for a minute.
"Okay, we'll let you go, your friends will sign the release papers for you" He said, and they all left the room. 20 minutes later Alex and Jack came in with some clothes for me to change into. I got changed and we all mad our way to Alex's mums car. Alex got in the drivers seat, Jack got in the front and I got in the back.
"Thank you" I said, loud enough for them to hear.
"For what?" Jack asked.
"You were both there and I, I've never had people there for me before" I whispered letting a few tears slip.
"Lauren, you're one of the nicest people I know and I think it absolutely sucks that your parents hit you. I'm seriously fucking glad I fell out of that tree, because from now on, I'm there for you no matter what" Alex said.
"You're my best friend Lauren, I'm so happy to have you in my life again, and I will always be your shoulder to cry on" Jack added. I started crying at how nice they were both being. Alex quickly pulled over and they both got in the back with me and let me just cry on them.
"I'm so lucky to have you both" I said when I'd finished crying. They smiled and Alex got back in the drivers seat while Jack stayed in the back with me. We got back to my house and the first thing I noticed was how dirty it all was.
"I really need to clean in here" I said. Jack and Alex looked at me.
"Not today you don't, you just got out of hospital, you're not doing anything except resting" Jack said. I rolled my eyes at them.
"I'm fine guys" I sighed. They looked at each other.
"Lauren, sit down. We need to talk to you" Alex said. I sat down on the armchair and they sat on the sofa opposite me.
"Lauren, we need to know why you did it. What provoked you?" Jack asked.
"Well, when you came round and apologised, I felt bad just sending you away like that. And then I started thinking about how fucked up I am and why my parents hate me. I thought that you both only wanted to be friends with me because you felt sorry for me. I hate myself, I really do. And a few weeks ago, before I met you, I would've done anything to die. You just don't understand how much I don't want to be here. I'll always be worthless and pathetic and useless. I have no talent, I'm fat, I'm ugly. I don't deserve to live." I said, letting more tears escape. Even Alex and Jack were crying.
"None of that is true, Lauren. You're fucking beautiful, and just remember, if it wasn't for you, me and Jack wouldn't be friends again. We love you like a sister. You always make us smile. You're not worthless, and you'll always have us." Alex said. They both came over and engulfed me in another group hug. I can honestly say that I'm lucky to have these 2 in my life.
