Lucky to have her.
*FLASH BACK*
I stood in front of a mirror trying to straighten up my bow tie. I could not figure the thing out. I heard the door open and in came Cassadee. "That's it. I can't get married my bow tie wont work looks like we'll just have to cancel." She gave me a glare. "Let me help you." She said walking over towards me. I took a breath in and her hands raised up to my neck and straightened my tie. "There that was all you needed." She said patting my chest.
Even the light pat she did made me gasp for air from a breath I didn't even know I was holding. "Are you ok?" She asked. To be honest, I was practically a small wind blow from the edge, I was so nervous. "Not really..." I trailed off running a hand along my sweaty neck. "What's up?" She asked pulling me over to sit on this bench thing. I started to play with my hands, while looking down at my lap.
"What if I do something wrong? What if she realizes I'm no good for her?" "Jack, you're amazing. She's lucky to have you there for her." She said giving me a smile. I loved the fact she said that but really I was the lucky one. I loved her ever since the first time I saw her, we were like a month into freshman year, she was new with a gorgeous accent. Her shirt had a cool smiley face on it and she wore burgundy skinny jeans.
She was perfect. I smiled at the thought of my best friend, soon to be wife. I looked over at Cass. "Thanks Cass, I needed that. I guess I'm just worried she'll change her mind and leave me here all alone with the thought of my true love leaving..." I trailed off. Cass just looked at me. "Yeah, sometimes I get deep Cass. I really do love her and I knew it from the moment I saw her, but I saw the way she and Alex looked at each other and backed off, He always got the girl."
I sighed remembering when they kissed. She played it off like it was nothing, I laughed at seeing Alex's face grow with anger cause she wasn't interested in him like a lot of other girls are. I had only know her for a few minutes and as soon as Alex's lips touched hers I wanted to punch him. He is my best friend and I've never been that way before.
"You ready?" Rian asked poking his head inside the room. I let out a breath. "Yeah." I said standing up. I followed Cass out and we walked over and took our spots. Paige's parents passed away our junior year so Alex said he would walk her down the isle, which is a little weird but he is both of our best friends. Zack and Rian stood next to me being both my best man. Cass was on Paige's side, she didn't have a lot of people and she and Cass were really close so of course she asked her to be maid of honor.
The music started and doors were pushed open. I looked down at my hands, I was too nervous to look up. Zack standing next to me nudged my arm causing me to look up. There she was starting down the isle. The biggest smile I could muster came across my face. She's beautiful. She'll always be beautiful.
I watched as she and Alex exchanged words and her smile went slowly down with each step she took. What were they talking about that was so important it needed to be done now. They stopped half way down the isle, all eyes on them, even mine. He stood in front of her. I knew what he was doing.
That's why he said I'm sorry earlier before Cass came in. I ran down there as fast as I could. He was down on one knee with her hand in his. "Paige Elizabeth Colegrove" Is the first thing I heard when I was right behind him. "Will you marry me?" Paige's eyes went straight to mine, then flashed to Zack. He didn't offer any help but was just as shocked as everyone else.
"I uhh..." She said. She stepped back from him, pulling her hand from his. I thought she was gonna walk to me but she kicked off her shoes and ran out of the church. Alex was about to chase her when I pulled him back. "Alex! What the fuck!?" I yelled. He pushed me back trying to run again. "You're not running after my wife!" I warned.
He head whipped around. "She's not yours Jack-" "She's my fiance, Alex!" I yelled back cutting him off. He pulled his arm out of my grip. I was about to kill Alex when Rian came over and pulled he and I both into another room. "What are you thinking Alex?" Rian asked. Alex was leaned against a wall. "I love her, Ri. I'm not just gonna give up." I sat up on the little bench I was sitting at.
"She was getting married to me, and you don't call that defeat?" Alex lunged for me and I held back his fists as we fell to the floor. "Cut it the fuck out!" Zack yelled coming into the room. He pulled me off Alex. "I picked her up after what you did to her, ME! She came to me." I said as Zack pulled me out of the room. "Zack, I love her. I don't wanna loose her." I said as he leaned me up against a wall.
"I know, I'm gonna try to call her and find out where she went." He said giving me a smile and leaving the room. I ran my hand through my hair.
*END OF FLASH BACK*
My thoughts were interrupted by Alex running onto the bus slamming the door. "Woah, calm down man-" "I can't she took him back! Him! Why?! Why would she do that when she-" "Didn't for you?!" I said standing up giving him a 'Are you kidding me?' look. "You broke her Alex, she just needs someone to pick her up, I happened to be there the first time but now... she's got no one. She wants someone to hold her, she doesn't care who."
"Ok, but why not pick one of us?" He sat on a couch. "I'm so sick of not having her in my life at all, It's not right, It doesn't feel normal." "I agree. But she knows she would have to choose one of us and that could push her to the edge. I'd rather not have her than loose her." I finished with it. Alex looked up at me with tears in his eyes. "Jack, you know I love her right?"
I looked down at my hands. "As much as I wish I didn't, I do." "You know I would never hurt her again, right?" "Alex, the fact you did it once, gives her reason to doubt. If you did win her back it wouldn't be the same as in High school, you would have a different relationship." "I know, but I'm willing to try." I nodded and walked to the back lounge and sat down.
I do love her, I always will, but whoever makes her happy id the one she should be with. If you love something let it go. As much as it would hurt, she needs to be loved by someone who will love her unconditionally, If they love her half as much as I would he would be lucky to have her. I felt a tear roll down my cheek.
