The Broken Rhythm

Chapter 4

Rhythm's POV

I awaken in a cold white room. Looking around I see an Iv and many other medical like objects. There's a window to my left, showing me its morning, sun not at its peak but maybe about an hour or two away.

The heart moniter to my right starts moving up and down, signaling I'm alive, and doctors and nurses come in, checking to make sure I'm okay. All with a look as they thought I wasn't going to make it through the night.

"Excuse me, how long was I out for?" I ask one of the nurses in pink.

"About a week darling, you were beaten pretty bad." She says to me. "Also someone kept asking for you while you were out. Shes in the waiting room now if you want her."

"If that's okay." Myself saying, not knowing who will come.

I wait a few minutes and a girl with short red hair and green eyes comes in. It takes me a minute to realize its my friend Rylie since I haven't been in the right mind for a week.

"Rylie!" I yell, excited to see her.

"Hey Rhythm, its been a while." She says, disappointed.

"You sound sad, whats wrong?" I say concerned.

"Yeah, I don't know how to put this but you aren't going to live here anymore." She says.

"What do you mean?" I say, confused.

"I mean you're going to court tomorrow when your released to confirm the convictions against your dad, then you're going to the orphanage." She says. tears ready to fall.

"Can't I stay with you?" I ask, tears now flowing from both of us.

"My mom asked and they told us no, we aren't your family and we can't adopt you either!" She cries, heartbroken.

"So only one more day with you?" I ask quietly, voice merely a whisper.

"Unless your adoptive parents let me see you." She says, and then we hug and cry together until visiting hours are over.

"Bye Rhythm, heres my number if you want to call. I'm gonna miss you." Rylie says, tears still flowing from hours ago.

"Bye Ry, I'm gonna miss you too." I say, losing my best friend.
--------------------------------------------
(Final Moments of Court)

"I now here by state that Brock Raves to 20 years in jail, bail at 3." The judge says.

I cry in happiness, also in pain due to leaving my home and Rylie. She was there for me since we were children. I guess good things must end eventually.

"Rhythm, its time to go." My lawyer, Kellin Quinn says. "To your temporary home."

We walk out of court and he takes me into his black Honda Civic.

It takes about forty five minutes till we get to the orphanage. The place I'll call home until someone adopts me, or till I'm eighteen if no one does, then I'm not the governments problem anymore.

We walk in and the care taker, Avril, shows me around and then we get to my room at the end of the tour. Its painted white with a bed and white comforter with little black stars on it, and other bedroom necessities cover the room too.

"Dinner is at 6:30 if you want any Rhythm, I wont force anything on you since I heard your story. I'll be there to talk if you want." Avril says to me nicely.

I run to her and give her a hug, her returning it. "Thanks Avril." I say with my first genuine smile I haven't had in a while.

"It's no problem, feel free to wander around and meet the other children and set an example for the younger ones. That's all I'll ever ask of you. She says pulling away from me with a big grin.

"I kinda want to go to bed now, its been a long day." I say tiredly.

"Okay darling, sleep well." She says and walks away.

When she leave I turn to me bed and get settled, sleep taking over my body before my head hits the pillow.
-------------------------------
I've been here for almost two weeks and all the kids think I'm a freak. I don't talk to anyone and stay away from people for the most part. They call me names but I shrug them off.

I'm off in a daze and then Avril calls me to come to her little office on the first floor.

I never get called to her, whats so important that she would ever need me?

Notes

Sarah's Butterflies here, it took me a while to write this chapter but with help from JalexUnicorn I got through this little "Court Scene how the heck do I write this thing block." and a "How do I write a hospital scene type thingy."
Also Avril is yes, Avril Lavigne. I tend to listen to her when I'm writing stuff.
Also did anyone catch an Avril Lavigne reference in this chapter? Tell me in the comments below!

@Sarah's Butterflies
thank you :)
@Lexithe_dreamer

We all feel pain differently depending on our pain tolerance, Rhythm just doesn't take it so well. Plus after the anxiety attack she was still recovering from it, I know from experience. My friend can smack my back hard when we're playing around but when I got my ears pierced it was the worst feeling for me so I put a tiny bit of Lidocaine on my ears to numb them a bit before I got them done two summers ago, plus I squezed the shit out of my friends' hand
idk she had her tongue pierced tho so why was she freaking out about the ears like idk sorry
