Jacks POV
Finally the doctors discharged Alex. On our way out we went up to ITU to see Tom. He had been taken off the ventilator but he still wasn’t awake yet. I knew how awful it was for Alex to see his brother like this. “Right boys visiting hours are over” The doctor came to say.
“Okay we are just leaving” I told him
“Bye Tom gets well soon. I will see you tomorrow” Alex told Tom and gave him a kiss on the forehead. “I love you Tom”
“Come on Alex lets go home” We walked to Alex’s house. His mom told us we could have pizza and take it up to his room. I and Alex didn’t sleep that night. We just stayed up and talked. We didn’t go to school the next day. We spent the day in bed eventually we fell asleep in each other’s arms. I was happy with Alex sleeping in my arms. We had to go to school the next day. Ad we walked in the school gates everyone bombarded us.
“Thank god you are okay Jack”
“Glad you are back Alex” We didn’t want all this attention. We just wanted things to go back to normal, like it was before the accident. None of these people liked us before the accident. I didn’t know why they were so bothered about us now. “How is Tom, Are we allowed to visit him Alex please give me permission to visit Tom” All they were bothered about was Tom they were trying to get to Tom. Alex didn’t tell them anything it wasn’t any of their business. I could tell Alex was getting upset. We still didn’t know whether Tom was going to survive or not. The doctors were still doing tests. I took Alex into a classroom where it was quiet.
“Alex I know you are upset about Tom, but you has to stay strong for him” I gave him a kiss and a cuddle. We walked down the corridor towards the tutor room. That’s when we bumped into Marks best friend and brother.
“Ewww look at the fags. It is a shame Marks plan failed. Then we wouldn’t have to put up with this awful and disgusting behaviour”
“So it was your fault. It was Marks fault that Tom is in hospital fighting for his life. Just because you hate Jack and me being happy”
“Yep” He answered smugly “We planned it all. We knew prom would be the perfect time to get both of you. It’s a shame you are not in the same condition as Tom. Oh well at least we got one of you” At that point I had to restrain Alex thankfully Zack had come along to give me a hand.
“What’s up with Alex he looks like he is about to explode?” He asked
“Those two saying Mark crashed the truck into the car on purpose and it’s a shame me and Alex didn’t end up like Tom at least they got one of us”
“I can see why Alex got so mad” We took Alex away from the situation. Our head of year came our way.
“Is everything okay Alex, Jack”
“No, Sam and James said it was a shame we didn’t end up the same way as Tom, and at least they got one of us. We should watch our backs and we will get you next time” Alex was now in tears. I know how much he loved Tom; I really didn’t want Alex to lose him. God I loved Tom as if he was my brother. I knew I would be distraught if anything happened to Tom. Our head of year walked out the office. “Hey Alex do you want to see Tom, we can go now if you like”
“Yea that would be good” I grabbed his hand and we ran down the corridor and out of the school gates and towards the hospital.
