Alex POV
I was panicked when I woke up to a regular beeping. A sterile smell. I opened my eyes and saw white. I was in hospital. Suddenly I thought about Jack and Tom. The doctor walked in “Ahh I see you’re awake Mr Gaskarth, how are you feeling?”
“Sore and I have a headache. Where are my brother and boyfriend?”
“What are their names and I will find out for you”
“Thomas Gaskarth and Jack Barakat”
“ Okay Mr Gaskarth I will just go and find out about your brother and Mr Barakat” The doctor left then came back “ I have to run a few tests on you before we can let you see your brother or Jack”
“Okay” Now I was scared. What had happened? I remember screaming Tom’s name. Then it all went black. I don’t remember crashing. I hope Jack and Tom are okay. I didn’t want them hurt. I sat up in my bed and got a headache.
“Sorry Mr Gaskarth because you have a headache, we are going to have to send you for a CT scan before you can see your boyfriend and brother”
“Why do I have to have this scan thing because I have a headache?” I questioned.
“Well as you banged your head in the crash, we need to make sure that you haven’t damaged your brain and to make sure there are no bleeds on your brain”
“Okay” Just as the doctor was walking out my parents walked in.
“Hi Alex how are you?”
“Apart from being sore and having a bit of a headache I am fine. I have to go for a scan before I can see Tom and Jack though”
“We haven’t been allowed to see Jack because we’re not family. The doctors say Toms going to be fine hopefully although they still have him sedated so they can control his breathing they are on about taking him off it soon though” My mum told me.
“Mum how long have I been laying here?”
“Two days”
“Do you know what happened? All I remember is me and Jack was in the back of Tom’s car. We were at the crossroads the light was green then it all went black”
“Do you know anyone by the name of Mark Hoppus?” My mum asked
“Yes! Why? He hates us”
“Well he was found in the lorry that crashed into Tom’s car. The police want to talk to you”
“Right Mr Gaskarth we are ready to take you to your scan now” The doctor took me up to the room where I was going to have my scan.
“Mr Gaskarth we need you to keep perfectly still or we won’t get accurate scan results. Do you understand?” The nurse asked me.
“Yes” I then felt the machine starting to work soon enough the scan was over and I was taken back down to my cubicle. My mum was waiting for me. The doctor came in.
“We are still waiting for your scan results” 15 minutes later he came back in. “We have some good news your scan is clear but we would like to keep you in for a few days for observation”
“Okay thanks. Can I go and see Tom and Jack now?” I was desperate to make sure they are okay
“You can see your brother but we will have to ask Mrs Barakat before you go and see Jack. We will ask while you see your brother” My mum showed me to where Tom was.
“The doctors told us that it would be good for Tom to hear people talking. I brought your guitar. I thought it would be good for him to hear you play. He always loved hearing you play” I picked up my guitar and started to play after a little while the doctor came in.
“Alex, Mrs Gaskarth we need you to step outside for a few minutes so we can run some tests on Tom” Me and mum stepped outside of Toms ITU cubicle.
“Mum I’m going to see how Jack is. I need to make sure he is okay”
“Yea that’s fine” I walked up to the lady on reception.
“Hello”
“Hi can I help”
“Yea I’m looking for Jack Barakat”
“He is only allowed to be seen by his family and people his mum approves. I will just go and ask her for you. What is your name young man?”
“Alex Gaskarth” With that she walked off. She came back a few minutes later “Okay Mrs Barakat says you’re allowed to visit Mr Barakat. Come with me I will show you where he is.” I followed her to where Jack was.
“Hi Joyce, how is Jack?”
“Hi Alex why don’t you see for yourself” I pulled the curtain back and saw Jack sat up reading a book.
“Hi Jack I am so glad you are okay”
“I am glad you’re okay to Alex. I was so scared when they told me you hadn’t woke up yet”
“Yea I just woke up this afternoon, before I saw anyone they made me have a head scan. They came back clear. Then I went to see Tom”
“How is he doing Lexy?”
“Well I don’t really know, but the doctor told me that he was sedated, and they are controlling him breathing. They are doing tests on him now.”
“I hope he is okay Lex. I know how much you love him. Have the police spoken to you yet?”
“Nope but my mum says the lorry driver that crashed into us was Mark”
“So that means he did it on purpose. Lex you know how much he hates us. Even more so because we have a public relationship” A nurse came to Jacks cubicle.
“Mr Gaskarth you are going to have to go back to your own cubicle, so that you can give a statement to the police” I followed her back to the cubicle where to police officers were waiting.
“Mr Gaskarth there is nothing to be frightened about. We have already spoken to Mr Barakat. We need a statement from you about the accident. Just tell us all you can remember”
“Well I and Jack were in the back of Tom’s car. After he picked us up from prom. We came to a crossroads the lights on our side were green. I remember screaming Tom’s name, but it was too late .It hit us and everything went black. Then I woke up here.”
“Okay thank you Mr Gaskarth. One more question. How is your relationship with Mark Hoppus?”
“Not good he hates us because we are gay. Tom used to be friends with him until he realized that he would rather have a relationship with his brother rather than pushing him away. Mark hates me and Jack just because we are gay. He hates it. He thinks we shouldn’t be here”
“Okay Thank you Mr Gaskarth” The police officers left. I was alone when my dad came in.
“Hello Alex. I am glad you are awake. How are you feeling? I hope you’re okay.”
“Yea I am fine dad I have a bit of a headache but that is all. I have had a scan it came back clear. I went to visit Tom and Jack. They want to keep me in for a few days”
“Okay I will be back soon. I am just visiting Tom”
“Okay” Just then Jack came in.
“Hey Lexy I get to go home today”
“I am happy for you I know you don’t like hospitals. I have to stay in for a few days. You will come and visit me and Tom won’t you”
“I sure will” He told me while kissing me “I am just on my way to visit him now if you want to come” I took hold of his hand and we walked to ITU where Tom was. He still wasn’t awake. They had stopped controlling his breathing for him as he was breathing by himself. I was still terrified for him though.
