Fly Away With Me

Chapter 11

This was the girl that he didn't think he would fall for as fast as he did. They hit it off right away, and when he met her, he didn't think things would go the way that they did. She was quirky and herself which was perfectly imperfect for Alex. She was radiant in her own way. While he hit it off with the other girl, she had different oddities that made her vibrant girl she is that Alex liked. To others, it would seem that he was making such a big deal over something that could easily be solved. To him, it was bigger. He was hoping that it was something that could resolve his whole mindset on the situation between the two girls. Yes, one may have a boyfriend and the other may not, but that only showed how big or small the fight would be.

"Depends," Alex replied keeping his eyes glued to the empty space in front of him.

"On what?"

"I don't even know. He knows that he likes them both, but to him, it's like he's choosing between one or the other and kinda who he would rather be with. Yah know?" Alex looked back over at his mom.

"This is just one night, not the rest of your life, baby. I think I may have a good enough idea that you already know which one, but stay positive. Dinner should be ready in an hour or so." His mom winked at him before placing a kiss on his head and starting dinner.

Okay, she had a point. This wasn't the rest of his life. He was only making it seem like a big deal, because it was something that was bothering him since he met Bristol. He didn't understand how he could he keep forgetting about Margo having a boyfriend. But that didn't mean anything. She said she was happy, but why wasn't he buying it? There was a possiblity that she was and Alex didn't want to admit it.

The light from his phone signaled a call that stopped his breathing for a second. When he answered, there was a moment of silence. "Margo?" Alex questioned wondering if she was even on the line.

"I'm sorry, Alex, I don't know if i can hang out tomorrow..." She said with indecision in her tone. Alex scoffed to himself. This had to do with Jonathon. He could already tell.

"Everything good?" He asked her. He didn't expect her to say what she did, but once she did, the tone went dead and Alex was left with his thoughts.

"As good as it can be, but it looks like I'm going to be dragged to this college party that i don't even want to go to with people I don't even know and forced to do things I don't want to do. I'm sorry, Lex. I don't think i can get out of it in one piece. Maybe a Gatsby party some other time... Hopefully, but I gotta go. Talk to you later."

Alex looked down at his phone seeing the call ended. Her rushed words spat out so fast that he has to take a second to realize what she said. So. John is yanking her off to this party where God only knows what's going to happen. Forced to do things that I don't want to do. Whatever things she was implying made him assume the worst, especially since Jonathan was the one dragging her off.

Alex clenched his jaw before texting her back: where's he dragging you off?

It took a while for her to respond, but it was simple: that Alterson Uni party. I'll talk to you later when I get home

He was going to keep that in mind. Why was he worrying so much? This girl never left his mind along with her wellbeing. He wished that she wouldn't subject herself to him. It wasn't until then that he saw it. It wasn't that he didn't like Jonathan cause he had Margo, but the fact that he had her and didn't know how to treat her like she deserved. He was lucky. He didn't see it and took it for granted.

It almost seemed forced for her to call with the random ring. Alex just felt annoyed by the whole thing too. It all between Margo and John vexed him. He wanted her to desperately open her eyes and just look.

His mom made dinner and he finished part of his homework that he being cut short by a text conversation with the only Bristol Vadel. She told him that she would have go walk her little brother around for a bit, and then they can do something. Alex replied saying he wouldn't mind walking around with her and little Bradley settling that and ending the night with a possible movie at his place.

The Halloween school went by but not fast enough. Alex could barely utter a word to Margo who sat in music with her head down avoiding any sort of conversation. He would try and lighten her mood in anyway resulting in a sympathetic smile and nod. He figured he would just hug her and leave it up to her.

Alex went back to Jack's until meeting up with Bristol. Jack said this whole this with her didn't seem like a bad idea and maybe even be good. He admitted that Margo was knee deep in Jonathon's bullshit which wasn't something that Alex could argue with. He stayed silent shrugging his shoulders.

"Wow, a stormtrooper!" Alex smiled at Bradley who had the full costume and mask for his Halloween costume. He was ten and full of energy, that was for sure.

"Thank you for coming, you really didn't have to," Bristol said. It was just starting to get slightly dark which was the right time for them to head out with Bradley who sure enough met up with his friends. It was the two of them and five little ones.

"No problem, it's cool," he responded. His heart began to beat when he felt Bristol's fingers interlock with his. He held into her hand while watching the kids walk up to the doors to retrieve their candy. Their energy seemed to keep up throughout the whole night, but the candy that they chomped on helped with that. It was nearly nine thirty before they made it back to Bristol's. Turns out it was later than they thought and she still had things to finish, so they were forced to reschedule. It wasn't a problem. It gave them something to look forward to.

"Alex?" Bristol looked up at him with a placid expression. He turned to her with a 'yep' before feeling her lips quickly meet his pulling them away only a few second after. The blush on her face was bright, and Alex felt as if his matched. "I'm sorry..." She trailed.

This would be good. Maybe getting over his feeling for Margo would help if he promised his feelings for Bristol. Maybe this could work. "No, it's fine," he smiled before leaning back down and giving her one more kiss. It was longer and definitely better than the first.

"Night," she whispered breaking the kiss with his hands still cupped around her face.

"Night," he smiled back. Bristol turned back to head inside, and as the door shut, guilt went and slapped him in the face. He was trying to assure himself that moving forward with her was good and convince himself that he liked her more than he really did.

He didn't know how big part the word convinced meant in this kind of situation. He tried to text Jack hoping he wasn't busy, but there was no reply. Watching Gremlins with his parents wouldn't be a bad way to spend the rest of the night. The rush of the people coming to the door has slowed down, but his mom would have to get up every once and a while to tend to them with a bowl of skittles and twixs.

"So how was your night, hun?" Isobel asked Alex during a commercial.

"Okay, I went with Bristol to walk her little brother around."

"Bristol?" His mom questioned.

"Yah, I met her this weekend. She lives in Teller," He told her. A small smile crept onto her face which only made him copy a curious one. "What?"

"Nothing," she replied, "I hope maybe meet her sometime?"

"Maybe," he sheepishly smiled back.

The movie came back on, and Alex and his dad snacked on the left over candy from the bowl until Alex noticed a missed call and text from Jack saying:

Hey, you gotta get down here. I'm at the Alterson party and I think you should get down here.

He gave the message a confused look initially thinking 1.) Jack was still had enough of a sober brain to send him this and 2.) when did he decide to go to the Alterson party? He was able to overlook that actually looking at the message and he fact that there was something going on there. He didn't know what was happening at a party that he wasn't even at that concerned him. He figured he would call before rushing up and over for nothing but a pool of a fruity, alcoholic mix.

"Jack, hey, what's up?" He made his way to the kitchen saying he was getting a drink. Jack answered, and right away there was an eruption of shouts from the background. It's Alex! Jack shouted to someone in a humorous tone.

"Hey, Alex. Man, shit's going down here; you gotta get down here." Jack took a sip from his drink, swallowing before continuing. "First it started out as a small little thing, but then someone got involved, and now shit's just got fucking real."

Alex listened to the small slur in his voice with a slight annoyance that he didn't tell him who it was or why it concerned him. When Alex asked, the response wasn't directed to him but to someone else there. There was a "Hey, knock it off" in a defensive tone, and then a "hey, back the fuck off, man."

"Jack?" He questioned, but the line went dead. That was enough for Alex to tell his parents that he was heading out with Jack for a little bit and shouldn't be long. With the twelve o'clock curfew and the 'you know you have school tomorrow and you're going regardless' speech, he was off and on his way biting his lip with an uneasy feeling the rest of the ride.
