Thrive - Side 2

The Big Bad Wolf

Scarlett is a couple of days away from turning a month old and I’m not going to be there for it. It’s crazy that she came a month early, and now we’re almost at the one month milestone. Knowing Abby’s going to be posting a photo signifying that day is such a relief and I cannot wait. I spoke to her that morning and was able to see that adorable daughter I have and it took everything me that evening when I was up on stage. I was hoping to speak to Abby once I cooled down enough to do so.

“Hey.” she sighed, sitting back in a rocking chair.

“Hey. What’s up? You sound tired.”

“I’ve had an eventful afternoon already and not in a good way.”

“What happened?”

“It started with a call from my mom. My father was pounding on her front door, but she wouldn’t let him in. Ten minutes, she called me back and said he was on his way to our house.”

Are you fucking kidding me? He’s such a bastard.

“Why the fuck was he at her house?”

“I don’t know, but I told her if he wasn’t gone in five to ten minutes, to call the police and by that time, she called to warn me where he was going. She didn’t answer the door if you’re wondering.”

“Is everybody okay?”

“Everybody is fine. He came here demanding to see his granddaughter. I called the police and I'm pressing charges like I should've done and you told me I should've done months ago. Go ahead. Say I told you so."

There was no way in hell that I was going to say that. No way.

"Abby... I'm not gonna say that."

"Why not? You should."

"You can't predict him doing that fucking idiotic like he did today by violating his restraining order. Plus, he didn't even hurt anyone this time. I’m just glad everyone’s safe.”

“I’m not looking forward to dealing with the legal system again.”

“But, at least this time, you don’t have to deal with your rapist, so it shouldn’t be a traumatic experience.”

“You’re right. Thank you for not saying I told you so.”

“I could never do that to you, especially in this situation. I understand and supported what you said and did when he tried to hurt our family all those months ago. I care about you two way too much to even say something like that.”

“That eases my mind. Thank you so much.”

“No need to say thank you. I love you more than anything.”

“I love you, too.”

I smiled and leaned my head against the tour bus. I had no idea what would’ve happened if he got into our home and near my family, but damn, I am relieved to know that monster will be out of our lives forever.
