Sanctuary - Side 2

I Never Expected This

We're engaged and I couldn't be happier after nearly two years of dating. I also have never seen Abby that happy during our entire relationship, aside from when she got her dream job. She went to work this morning with the biggest smile I had ever seen. I was out in the studio while she worked all day, but I ended up getting home later than she did which bummed me out since I love to greet whenever she gets home from work. Around 11, I arrived home and was exhausted and only wanted to climb into bed next to Abby and fall asleep.

"Abby?" I whispered near our bed.

"Mmm..."

I didn't wanna wake her, so I got ready for bed and made my way back as quickly as possible.

"Come on..." she whispered.

"You awake?" I asked, climbing into bed next to her.

"Until you kiss me goodnight."

She was adorable.

"Were you waiting for that?"

"If I wasn't asleep when you got home, but I expected to be asleep before you got home."

So silly.

"Goodnight, Abby." I said after kissing her.

"Goodnight, Alex."

The following morning, I woke up to her waking up. I placed my hand on the small of her back as she was sitting up which seemed to startle her.

“Good morning.” I said.

“Morning.”

I sat up and wrapped my arms around his stomach, pulling her back against my chest.

“Stay.”

I had my head on her shoulder at this point.

“I can’t. I have to work. You know that.”

“Call in sick.”

She laughed.

“Alex, you gotta stop being so fucking cute. You’re making this difficult."

"Maybe I can come with you. I'm friends with Mike. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I was there."

"I'd love for you to come, but... how does this sound? We'll have sex when I get home."

I kissed her cheek.

"Sounds amazing."

She smiled and turned around to kiss me."

"I love you."

"I love you, too."

"Now, I need to get ready for work."

While Abby was in the shower, I was in the kitchen singing and cooking; Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen was stuck in my head which wasn't a bad thing in the least; the song is beautiful and I love it. When breakfast was about ready, I heard her walk down the hall and into the kitchen.

“What’s cookin’, good looking?”

I laughed.

“Scrambled eggs.”

“What kind?”

“Ham and cheese.”

“With lots of cheese?”

“Lots and lots of cheese.”

She squealed.

“You’re the best.”

“I try. I just like for you have to a good meal before heading off to work.”

“Well, I appreciate that. Thank you.”

“My pleasure.”

“So, what’ll you be up to today?”

“Some writing, grocery shopping and cleaning.”

“Sounds like a productive day.”

I then served her breakfast.

“This is delicious.”

“Surely, it’s not as good as anything you cook.”

“You’re plenty good, almost as good as your singing voice. Saying almost as good about your voice doesn’t even cover it, I absolutely love it; it’s amazing.”

I blushed.

She finished getting ready in ten minutes and walked into the living room.

“I’ll see you when I get home, be ready.”

“I will be. Love you.”

“Love you, too.”

And with that, she was off to work. Everything was normal until two o'clock which just happened to be her lunch break.

“Hey.”

“Hey.” she said in a worried voice.

“What’s wrong?”

“Before I left, I received a call saying that there’s going to be a trial. He didn’t take a deal.”

I shook my head. What a piece of shit.

“Do we know when?”

“Less than a month. I’m gonna be sick, Alex. I can’t do this. I just can’t.”

I could hear crying over the phone which pained me immensely.

“Yes, you can. I know you can.”

She started to breath unevenly which sent me into somewhat of a panic.

“Abby? Abby, are you okay?”

“No. I think I’m having a panic attack. I can’t breathe.”

This is what I was afraid of, but I didn't want to be right.

“I’m coming.”

“Alex, no. I’ll be fine.”

“I’ll be there asap. I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

I pulled into the parking lot ten minutes later and got inside her car once I saw it.

“Abby?”

She broke out into tears. She looked over at me with blurry eyes as she was taking shallow breaths. She faintly smiled and took my hand.

“I’m such a fucking mess. How can you even deal with this?”

I sighed before I spoke.

“Because I love you. That’s why.”

“Still. I’m gonna be a mess whenever this trial starts.”

“I’ll be with you the entire way. You know that.”

“I get what you’re saying, but it was the worst thing in the world to happen to me. I’d rather just deal with how depressed I was for a year than think once about when I was raped and the fact that I have to see this bastard’s ugly fucking face again and not just one more time, but multiple times.”

She was hysterical and ready to hit something or hell, even break something. I stopped her before she could do a single thing and pulled her into a hug. She gripped my shirt and cried into it.

“I’m sorry.”

“Sorry for what?”

“For making you come the whole way out here. I mean, I’m gonna head back in, of course after I eat. Fuck. I need to go get something to eat.”

“You don’t need to apologize.”

She nodded.

“I’ll go through a drive-thru with you. We can actually have lunch together. You know how rare that is.”

She smiled.

“Sounds good.”

We got out of her car and made our way into my car. By the time we got through a drive-thru, I was curious as to how she was feeling; I hoped that she was much calmer and would be able to get through the day.

“How are you feeling?”

“Better. You are amazing. I appreciate this. I really do.”

I nodded this time.

"How about your chicken strips?"

She almost spit out her food.

"Delicious."

She had a smile on her face again as I smiled back at her. She busted out laughing; I looked at her with a confused look on my face.

"What?

"Your face." she said, motioning to the ketchup.

"Oh." I said, grabbing a napkin and wiping my face.

She continued to laugh.

"Better?"

"Almost."

She leaned over and kissed me on the cheek.

"Better."

When we got back to the restaurant, I could tell that she wasn’t really in the mood to head back to work.

“Ugh.” she said with her head against the headrest.

“Don't wanna go back to work?”

“Uh-huh. Are you still up for sex when I get home?”

“Absolutely.”

“Well, I can get through the rest of the day. I’m using that as motivation.”

“That’s fantastic motivation. So, are you gonna be okay? I’ll be here in a heartbeat.”

“I will be. I love you. I gotta go. I have five minutes to get back in there.”

“Ok. Love you, too.”

We kissed and off she dashed out of my car to walk into the kitchen through the back door. Come nine 'clock, I heard the door unlock and her walk in; I couldn't help but smirk, knowing what I planned.

“Alex?” she called out for me.

The lights were out and the lone lights that were on, just happened to be the hallway lights. In addition to those lights, I had lit candles throughout our bedroom.

“Alex?” she asked.

“Hey, Abby.”

“Hey.” she said, setting her purse on the floor.

“How was the rest of your day?” I said, walking toward her.

“Wonderful. Yours?”

“Boring. I couldn’t get you off my mind.”

I wrapped my arms around his neck and pressed my lips to hers.

“Clearly, Mr. Romantic. It’s beautiful in here.”

I smiled.

“I try.”

“And you succeed.” she said with her hands on my waistband, fiddling with my jeans button.

“Ready for this?”

“Yes.”

She successfully unbuttoned my pants and unzipped them while she looked straight at me; I loved it as I smirked. I did the same to her and pulled them straight down, then she stepped out of them. She couldn’t get my pants off of me quicker along with my shirt.

“Freedom.” she said.

“Not quite.”

I picked her up and tossed her onto the bed causing her to laugh. That ended when her panties were practically ripped off.

“Take off your briefs.” she commanded.

She loves having control; who was I to deny her that?

“Yes, ma’am.”

I took them off and pounced. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted her this much since we've been together. We kissed each other hungrily as she flipped us over.

“Plan on going for a ride, cowgirl?”

“Yes, I am, cowboy. Any complaints?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Absolutely none.”

She maneuvered so she was in the proper position to ride me; I was also thankful for her to be on birth control because I enjoyed the feeling of nothing in between us. I put pressure on her hips once she started riding me. When she was at the point of orgasm, she put pressure on my hips then collapsed into me. She laid her head in the crook of my neck before she spoke again.

“Want me to blow out the candles?”

“I’ll do that. Don’t worry. Don’t ever worry.” I said, stroking her hair.
