Sanctuary - Side 2

Miles Apart

Apart

Another two weeks passed and it was time for us to shoot the first video for Last Young Renegade and I was ecstatic. The first single we're going to release is Dirty Laundry which was perhaps one of my favorite songs off the album. It's not being filmed in LA, so we traveled to Baltimore to film the video.

“How’s Baltimore?” she asked during her lunch break.

“Amazing. It’s so weird being back here. You know?”

“Glad to hear that.”

“How are you? How’s work?”

“Great and work’s been the same. How’s the shoot going?”

“Well, it’s such a simple one. We’re just at a laundromat and it’s focused on me more than anything.”

“That’s exciting.”

Then, she burped.

“Are you on your lunch break?” I asked, laughing.

“Yeah. Sorry.”

“No need to apologize. Mind if I ask what you’re eating?”

Another burp. She started to laugh as did I.

“Oh... bacon cheeseburger with onion rings on the side.”

“Fuck. That sounds delicious.”

“It is. Too bad you can’t have one.”

“Tomorrow, I can.”

“That’s true.”

“Well, I'll let you go eat then.”

“Ok. Love you.”

“I love you, too. Bye.”

“Bye.”

I received a text from Abby around midnight asking if I'd like to FaceTime her. I texted her back and then, she called me.

“Hey.”

“Hey.” she waved.

“I see you felt the need to take a bubble bath.”

“Well, I didn’t have you, so this is the next best thing.”

“You’re such a tease.”

“Thank you. I try.” she laughed.

"It's a different story though. I'm on the other side of the country."

"I'm sorry babe."

"No. You're not."

"I am. Trust me."

I gave her the side eye.

“Alex Gaskarth. I don’t lie. I’ll make it up to you when you get back.”

“You promise?”

“I promise, you dork.”

“Ok.” I said, laughing.

“So, did you guys have a great day?”

“Fantastic. Can’t wait to get back home though.”

“Tomorrow.”

“Yes.”

She was grinning from ear-to-ear. We talked for another ten minutes till I was sleepy and her bath water started to run cold. I texted her back before she left for work the next day.

See you tonight! I love you! Have a great day!

I love you, too! Can’t wait!

What she didn't know was that I'd be home earlier than that; I wanted to surprise her. Shortly before her lunch break, I stood against her car and waited for her to come outside. When she saw me, she dashed over and kissed me.

“Hey. What brings you here?” she asked.

“Just meeting my very hot fiancée for a lunch date.”

“That’s exactly what I’m doing. What a coincidence.”

I wrapped my arms around her waist and kissed her as she wound her around my neck.

“When did you get back? You weren’t supposed to get back till this evening.”

“An hour ago. Thought I’d surprise you.”

“Well, you certainly did.”

I smiled.

“Did you know all along that you were gonna be here during the day?”

“I found out yesterday, actually.”

“Well, thank you for surprising me.”

“My pleasure.”

I kissed her again.

“So, where we eatin’?"

“That’s up to you.”

"How about a place where you can get a bacon cheeseburger?"

"I like the way you think."

She laughed and unlocked her car.

"No. We're going in my car." I said, taking her hand.

"Ok." she said, locking it.

She walked with me and got into my car, not able to wipe the smile off her face.

“Are you happy?”

“Maybe...” she said, biting my lip and glancing over at me.

“So am I.”

I smiled at her and took her hand before starting my car. For once, we made the decision to eat inside instead of eating in the car.

“You know I’ve truly been craving a burger since yesterday.” I said, taking a bite.

“I’m assuming it’s good?”

I nodded.

“Nothing’s quite as good as whatever you make, though.”

She blushed.

“You lie.”

“Abby Shaw. I don’t lie.”

“This sounds like a conversation we had last night.”

“Oh. That one. You said you were gonna make it to me.”

I smirked.

“And I will.”

She definitely did.
