Lillie’s POV
I pay for my sandwich, collect my change, count it to make sure the deli didn’t rip me off for the second time this week, and shove the money into my purse. After the lady gives me my sandwich with a fake cordial smile, I start to walk home. I pass Hub 24, where some kind of concert has just ended. People are pouring into the parking lot, talking excitedly about the band. I steered towards the back of the Hub. It was a longer walk, but much less crowded. It was a detour I was accustomed to taking whenever a concert or show let out. I didn’t really mind the extended time alone. It gave me time to think. I was starting to unwrap my sandwich so I could eat it as I walked when I felt two hands on my back. I was shoved to the ground. I looked up and tried to call for help, but someone’s gloved hand was over my mouth. I couldn’t see their faces, but I could see two figures. They guy covering my mouth made three. Another guy kept lookout as the third guy yanked my purse from my hand. Then, a fourth figure showed up. This guy was running towards me at full speed. I was horrified. What the hell was this? A gang rape?
“Hey!” The fourth guy yelled from a few feet away. I tried to get up, but my body was pinned to the ground. “Get the fuck off her!” The fourth guy shouted, hitting the guy grabbing my purse. Was he here to help?
“Get lost, kid.” The voice of the guy covering my mouth was gruff and deep.
“I said to get off of her.” The fourth guy demanded. There was a short fight and the guys eventually ran off, taking my purse with them. I had been stepped on at least twice. When I wasn’t pinned to the ground anymore, I rolled over and coughed up some blood. Disgusting.
“Are you alright?” The guy who’d come to help me kneeled next to me. I shook my head. I was shaking all over and I thought I might pass out. “Here, let me help you up.” The guy put his arm around me and helped me to my feet. “My bus is right over here.” The guy said, “I’ll take you back to my place and fix you up, alright?” I nodded. Although I hadn’t met him, I was in no condition to deny his help. We approached a tour bus, where we were met by a guy with skunk-like hair.
“Woah, man.” The skunk kid said, “I thought we agreed no bringing girls back to the bus tonight.” The guy helping me up to the bus disregarded his friend and helped me in anyways. “Is she drunk?” The boy with the skunk hair asked.
“No, she’s hurt. She got jumped.” The guy with his arm around me said.
“Fuck.” The skunk boy said. He climbed into the bus and they both helped my lie down.
“I’m Alex Gaskarth.” The boy who’d helped me said. “And this is Jack.” He gestured to the skunk boy. “We’re in a band. Our other band mates, Rian and Zack, are going to be here pretty soon. This is our last stop on our tour, and our hometown, so we’re headed back to my place now.” Alex said. He left for a minute and came back with a wet washcloth and a cool glass of water. He placed the washcloth on my forehead and handed me the water. For the first time, I got a really good look at his face. He was gorgeous. He had wild brown hair and chocolaty brown eyes. He looked kind enough to be trustworthy.
“T-thank you.” I said. Alex smiled at me.
“I’m so sorry that happened to you. If you live near here, we can just drop you off at your house.” Alex offered. I shook my head.
“I live just down the street, but I live alone, and I’d rather not be alone right now.” This seemed to make Alex strangely happy.
“My place it is, then.” Alex said, “I can give you some medicine and some shorts and a t-shirt to sleep in. What’s your name?”
“Lille McMahon.” I said, “And thank you.”
