Night Drives

Jacks POV

Alex was still asleep when I heard Green Day American idiot playing on his phone.
Befre Alex went to sleep he threw his phone on the bed muttering something as he went to sleep but I didn't catch what he was saying.
I looked for his phone and when I found I saw his mum was calling him.
I looked at Alex and he was sound asleep so I answered it hoping that Alex didn't hate me when I tell him later when he woke up.

"Hello?" I said sounding nervous as I have never spoken to Alex's mum.
"Hello? Who is this? Where's Alex? God please don't tell me he's drunk and has passed out." Alex's mum said quickly with panic in her voice.
"Its okay, I'm Jack, the friend who got high and drunk with Alex last night. Alex is with me asleep hence why I'm talking to you and he's pretty sober." I said and I could hear her sigh in relief.
"Oh thank god, thought he was in a ditch or something." His mum said and I chuckled.
"No I can assure you that he's not passed out in a ditch." I said and I could hear her smile.
"How has he been today?" His mum asked.
"Surely you should be asking him that question?" I asked confused on why she's asking me.
"I'm asking you as Alex doesn't say much about how he is feeling." His mum said and I made a face because I don't know wether to lie or not.
"He's been okay, he had to take time out in a class because of reason I don't know of." I said hoping she doesn't ask questions.
"Well when he wakes up can you tell him I said I would like him to come home." His mum said.
"I'm not going to lie to you but he's out for the count and I don't think he'll be waking up anytime soon. But I'll send him back your way in the morning when we both get up since it's the weekend." I said and his mum sighed.
"Knowing Alex that won't be happening as there will be a party happening." His mum said thinking aloud.
"I'll personally deliver him to you, if you want." I said and I heard his mum chuckle.
"I would like that Jack." She said and I smiled.
"Anyway it's late and I should let you get some rest." She said and I chuckled.
"I'll see you later then." I said and hung up and looked at Alex.

"Was that my mother asking where I am?" Alex mumbled and rolled over to face me.
"Yeah it was." I said as I lead back down and rolled on my side so I could face him.
"Did she think I was dead in a ditch?" He asked looking away from my eye contact.
"I wouldn't say dead, more along the lines of passed out in a ditch." I said and Alex smiled a little.
"Well it won't be the first time I've been found passed out in a ditch." Alex said and I frowned confused.
"Its a long story, one which I don't want to share right now." Alex said finally looking at me.
"It's okay, you don't have to tell me everything about you." I said and Alex smiled.
"Your mum wants me to take you home tomorrow." I said and Alex nodded.
"It's fine, I haven't got anywhere to be so I might just spend some time with my family I guess since I've missed a lot in the last 5 months." Alex said sadly.
"What you missed you can always gain back by spending time with them and not running away." I said and Alex looked at me hard.
"I'm not running away. If I was running away I would be long gone out of the state where nobody can find me again." Alex said seriously and I looked down.
"I'm sorry." I whispered.
"It's okay, sorry I somewhat snapped at you. It's not your fault I'm messed up." Alex said and I looked at him which made him look down.
"You not messed up, just misunderstood by everyone." I said and Alex smiled a little.

We stayed in silence for a while until Alex spoke.
"Do you wish you had your mum and dad around?" He asked sleepily.
"Sometimes, but it's always been me and nan." I said and looked at him and Alex was staring at the Telly fighting to keep his eyes open.
"Why did they run?" Alex asked and I sighed.
"I dunno, nan said they was in trouble with the law. They dumbed me with nan so that I wouldn't get taken in by the state I guess." I said and looked down.
"Have you ever heard from them?" Alex asked and looked down me but he was still struggling to keep his eyes open.
"I did a few years ago, but I knew they'd been caught by the cops long before they actually finally written to me to explain what was happening." I said.
"Do you miss them?" Alex asked quietly.
"Some days I do, but most of the time I don't." I said.
"Do you wish you had siblings?" Alex muttered and I couldn't help but smile at him trying to stay awake to hear my answers and ask more questions.
"Sometime I do, especially the days when I feel lonely. But it doesn't bother me that I don't have any siblings. Unlike your crazy house." I said and Alex chuckled quietly.
Alex was going to ask another question but I spoke before him.
"Sleep Lex, you can't keep your eyes open." I said quietly and pulled the covers over Alex.
"You going to sleep as well?" Alex mumbled.
"I might watch a few more episodes before I sleep." I said and Alex smiled and finally let sleep win the battle which made me chuckle.
