Long Live Us

Thirty

House after house, I was starting to get a dull headache from our search. Stella was as giddy as she always was, loving the idea that we were looking for a place to live.. But the reality was, while this was all fun and future planning to her, it was my life, right now. This is where I would spend the next few years of my life, at least until Stella and I grew older and decided to move some place new. Yet, I couldn't find anything. Not a single house screamed home to me.

We were now about twenty minutes away from where our parents lived, looking for any signs that read 'FOR SALE' but weren't having much luck. I'd just about given up hope, but that's when we saw a sign. It was a the top of a gravel road, off of a random back road I'd decided to take. Stella rose an eyebrow to me, but we nodded and decided to check it out.

The driveway was longer than any we were used to, but when saw the house, we both knew it was worth it. It had a large front and back yard, a full porch that stretched across the front of the house and it was a two-story home. The house itself was white, the shutters were black and it had a two car garage attached. I smiled at Stella, who was admiring all the flowers planted around the front of the house. Neither of us even paid any mind to all the other cars in the driveway. For all we knew, we could be walking in on some kind of family event.

"This place is beautiful," Stella breathed, a grin on her lips. "And it's so distant from everything. Talk about privacy."

"Some people like that," I shrugged, climbing the stairs to the front door. From here, I could see a swing at the far end of the porch, along with a table and two chairs. "Let's see the inside, shall we?"

She nodded, pulling open the glass door so I could knock on the wood door. A few moments passed before a woman answered, wearing a dress suit with large glasses on her face. Instantly, she smiled at us, tugging us into the house.

"Well, you're a little late," she mumbled, pushing us in far enough to close the door again. "But everyone is checking the placce out now. This history is basic- Family owned, until the last member passed a few weeks ago. Don't worry - He didn't die here!" She chuckled, making me uncomfortable. "They kept it clean and in top shape. A lot of remodeling was done when the daughter moved in to take care of the father, you know how that goes. You'd think she'd want the place, but she'd rather live in New York City! Apart from that, it explains itself. Go look."

Without giving us a chance to speak, her heels clicked against the floor as she left. From here, Stell and I let out the breath we'd been holding. The house was large, that much was true, and we were only on the first floor. There was a living room, dining room, den (Stella loved the fireplace in that room), kitchen, bathroom and the master bedroom.

The master bedroom was probably our favorite part of this floor. The room was huge, with a walk-in closet and a private bathroom, which contained a bathtub with jets and a walk-in shower. Not to mention his & her sinks. Naturally, Stella gushed about this.

We forced ourselves away from the bedroom and decided to go upstairs, where we found another bathroom, two bedrooms and a storage closet which also led to the attic. First, we checked out the smaller bedrooms. They were on opposite sides of the hallway, same in size, with fluffy white carpet on the floor. I knew if I owned this place, that'd have to be replaced 'cause I'd ruin it.

Next, we decided to check out the attic, which stretched the length of the house and was pretty kept up. It'd be a great place for to keep our instruments and maybe even practice. I think our favorite part of the attic, however, was the view of the backyard. We could see a patio, with furniture, and a cute little dog lot.

"Let's go back downstairs," Stella whispered, when a group of people started to pile in the attic. "I want to see the bedrooms one more time."

So we did. I led her into the left bedroom on the second floor, both of us staring at it with a smile on our faces. It would be the perfect place for our friends to crash, or better yet, our kids when we grew older. Maybe even both, since there are two rooms.

"We could paint the walls pink," I smirked at Stella, watching her eyes grow wide. "For when we have a daughter. I mean, if we have one, that is. Blue would work, too. But I like pink better.."

"Are you serious?" Stella eyed me, a small smile on her lips.

"Dead." I grinned, pulling her into my arms. "We could have two kids. Then, when we're a little more settled in the future, I could buy you the house of your dreams."

"This is the house of my dreams," Stella giggled, standing on her tip-toes to kiss my cheek. "We could sit on the patio and have drinks while I write songs and you play guitar. Until I move in, you can turn this room into your guitar and gaming room or something. Oh, Jack! We could set up a Christmas tree by the fireplace!"

"Or we could just sit in front of it and cuddle, enjoying our new lives together. You think?"

"That sounds perfect. Jack, I want this house."

I wanted this house, too. I was so in love with it, with the idea of starting my life here with Stella, that I just couldn't contain myself. I knew until our new album took off, cash would be a little tight, but I could do this. At least I was finically secure, and with Stella not having much to take care of since she was a minor, I knew I could count on her to at least share with me in the buying of furniture and decorations required to turn this huge, amazing house into our loving home.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?"

The sound of people around us took over my ears. We weren't the only two who wanted this house. Everyone here did. I needed to move quick.

"I'm making an offer."
