Best Mistake

Twenty Eight

I woke up the next morning slowly, like my senses were reactivating one by one. My hearing was first, and I heard light snoring and the motor of the ceiling fan as it spun. Then came my smell, and I inhaled deeply, catching a whiff of sex and sweat. My sense of touch came next, and I felt the warmth of shared body heat and a lack of fabric on my body. Last was my sight, and I opened my eyes to see Alex sleeping peacefully next to me.

The night before was so amazing, I almost couldn't believe it was real. For a moment I was certain I'd dreamt it, but then I felt the pleasant soreness in my bottom half. I couldn't help but blush thinking about it.

I looked over Alex's features as he slept, from his messy hair to his slightly parted lips. The more I stared at him, the more perfect he looked. He was already wildly attractive to me beforehand, but at that moment, after everything we'd been through, he was godly.

I brushed my fingers lightly through his hair, trying not wake him, but feeling a desperate need to touch him. His mouth twitched a little and he stirred, slowly lifting his head.

"Sorry," I frowned. "I didn't mean to wake you."

He looked around with sleep coated eyes, then glanced down at my bare chest and smiled.

"Mm," he moaned. "I could get used to this."

"To what?" I asked.

"Waking up next to you. Naked," he smiled, running his fingertips along my jaw line.

I blushed and he eased his lips onto mine in a sweet kiss.

"How are you feeling?" he asked.

"Fanfuckingtastic," I giggled. "How about you?"

He stretched and grimaced, rolling over to face me. "My legs are a little sore, but I'll manage."

I laughed. "I've never done anything like that before."

"You mean like in the kitchen?" he asked and I nodded. "Me either. The scenery added a whole new element. It was incredible. But I think that's mainly due to the fact that it was with you."

I smiled, playfully pushing his chest.

"You think he minded all the action?" he asked, rubbing my bump.

"I hope not," I said quietly. "I'm hoping last night was the first time of many."

Alex laughed, rolling onto his stomach and propping himself up on his elbows. "Down, girl."

I watched as he stared down at his fingers, fiddling with them. He then sighed heavily and looked at me.

"You know we have just a little over a month before he gets here and we still don't have a name picked out for him?" he asked.

I frowned, a little ashamed that we kept forgetting to talk about that. "Well what names do you like?"

He perked up a little, smiling pridefully. "Alex Jr."

I scoffed, and when Alex's smile was replaced with a slight frown, I asked, "Seriously?"

He nodded slowly, and I got the feeling that I really hurt his feelings.

"I'm sorry," I winced. "I'm just not a fan of Jrs."

He looked away from me slowly. "It's ok, I guess. I was just kind of hoping he'd have my name."

"Maybe we can find a way to incorporate it in there somehow," I said quickly, trying to push out some damage control. "Maybe Alex can be his middle name."

"Yeah, maybe," Alex smiled. "What names do you like?"

I shrugged. "I like classic names, you know? Charles, or Hank."

He grimaced. "Hank?"

I nodded, feeling a little embarrassed by his reaction. I'd always liked the name.

"Alex Jr. is a no go but Hank is a contender?" he asked, faking a gag.

I glared at him mildly. "Ok then. What about a strong name?"

"Like Hercules?" he grinned.

"Hercules Gaskarth?" I asked, my expression showing how ridiculous his suggestion was.

He laughed and shrugged. "I'm trying here! What about something unique? Like Laser? We can pull a Gwenneth Paltrow and name him Banana."

"Only if his middle name is Hammock," I grinned, winking at him.

Alex chuckled a little and scooted closer to me, wrapping his arms around my midsection. "I like your style, babe."

He placed his hand on my cheek, gently rubbing it with his thumb. I tilted my head into his hand, letting my eyes fall shut.

"Can you do me a favor?" he whispered.

I nodded, enjoying the feel of his skin on mine.

"I'm supposed to go have dinner with my parents tonight. Can you come with me?"

My eyes fluttered open. "Really?" I asked.

He nodded, a hopeful expression playing on his features. I suddenly felt anxious and nervous about meeting Alex's parents. But I did owe him, since he flew out of state with me to meet mine.

"Yeah," I said quietly. "I'd love to."

He smiled and took my hand in his, bringing it up to his lips.

"Do they know about me?" I asked.

He nodded, brushing his lips across my knuckles.

"They know everything?" I asked, motioning to my stomach.

He nodded, biting playfully on my fingertip. "Everything."

My eyes widened a little. "What did they say about it?"

He shrugged. "They were ok with it, surprisingly. They seemed a little pissed off at first, but once I told them all about you and they saw how excited I am, they came around," he smiled. "My mom is especially excited to meet you."

I couldn't stop the smile from spreading across my face. "Really?" I giggled.

We spent a majority of the day going back and forth about names for our son, and things got kind of heated after a while. Neither one of us could stand the others suggestions, and at one point I completely stopped talking to him, I was so annoyed.

"Let's just go with Banana Hammock Gaskarth and call it a fucking day," Alex had huffed as he fell back next to me on the couch. I glared at him for a moment, but soon gave in and smiled.

The day passed by sooner than I'd hoped. While Alex's mom was apparently so excited to meet me, I was scared to death of meeting her. What if she had all of these high expectations about how I was or even how I looked, and I turned out to be a disappointment?

"Stop thinking so much," Alex said while kissing the back of my neck while passing through the bathroom where I was getting ready.

"What are you wearing?" I called after him. I hadn't even thought about an outfit yet and was desperate for ideas.

He reappeared in the doorway. "This."

I looked at his grey button down, his black skinny jeans, and his matching black vans.

"So, dressy casual?" I asked.

He shrugged. "Wear whatever you want to wear, Whit."

I groaned at his lack of input and walking into the closet, sifting through my clothes. I pulled out a nice pair of maternity skinny jeans and a flowy lavender top and changed quickly before turning to look in the mirror, frowning slightly at my reflection, but shrugging, deeming it good enough.

Soon, I was ready and went to find Alex in the kitchen. He smiled when he looked up at me.

"Wow," he said, clutching his chest. "I think your eyes just pierced my soul."

I assumed he could tell I was starting to second guess my appearance as he quickly walked over to me, shaking his head.

"No, stop," he said. "You look beautiful. Your eyes are just intensely green right now." He tugged on the bottom of my shirt. "Purple is definitely your color."

I sighed heavily and nodded, feeling my palms start to sweat as the nerves kicked back in.

"Everything is going to be fine," Alex smiled. "They're gonna love you."
