Work In Progress
Her eyes widened, they were breathtaking...
"I know what happened. Thanks for staying here. I'll just call my mum to pick me up."
The smile on my face disappeared with her words. "Lily, your Mother isn't here, I am. In the time it will take her to get here, you'd be stuck in this hospital waiting, most likely bored. However if you come with me, you'd be back before your Mother even gets here."
She stiffened then stared in my direction. Maybe, I took a step to far with the offer. However a moment later she shook herself out of her moment and sighed.
"Fine, I'll go with you...How do I know you won't kidnap me?"
I chuckled. "You don't but trust me, I won't." I spread my arms out and spun around. "Do I even look like a kidnapper to you?"
"Technically we all do."
"Oh wow, that's deep Lily. Come on let's go," I ushered.
The drive to Lily's was quiet. The only thing cutting through the silence was the car's engine. I quickly glanced at her. I'm pretty sure her blank stare could shatter the windshield.
"Umm...apart from the obvious, you ok?"
"Yea...," she shook her head, "can't believe I lost control like that." Her sigh echoed through the car.
Without thinking of anyone else, I slammed the breaks. Thankfully there wasn't any other cars on the road right now.
"Alcohol does that," I began, turned in my seat to see her with a confused expression, "makes you do stupid stuff. Turns you into someone, no one hardly recognises. I know what it's like. I've lost someone close to me to that liquid poison. It hurt...don't get me wrong I will still drink it but I know when to stop before it takes me as its next victim."
I'd just said something that would normally make me feel uncomfortable about. It's such a fragile subject. I thought it would be the last thing I'd say to a girl, I very recently just met. I guess the situation just took over, letting it a hell of a lot easier to mention.
Her eyes widened, they were breathtaking. I had to turn back to face the road, to avoid being sucked in by them.
"Oh..." she mumbled, followed by a moment of quietness which I took to restart the car.
"Alex, I'm sorry to hear that."
I shrugged. "Ah, it's cool. It happened a few years back. I just don't like bringing it up, this seemed to be the right time for it though."
Notes
I'm referring to Tom here. Apart from a little moment later in the story, he won't be mentioned again. I know it's a tough subject for Alex and his family so don't want to "mess" around with it too much. I've got way too much respect for him to do that.
I'm also thinking about adding Jack to the story soon. :)
@Newyork_xo
I'm glad that you enjoyed this. I might think about another story as this one has been fun to write. Yes, poor Alex, it wasn't meant to end like that but with all the changes and other characters being added it just went in that direction. I know I've said this a lot already but thank you for your comments, I really appreciated getting them. :)
