1456 Days

The morning had started off slowly. When my alarm went off I wanted to scream, but I dragged myself out of bed anyways. I pulled on a pair of shorts and a shirt 2 sizes larger than me before forcing myself to go downstairs and eat some sort of breakfast instead of throwing myself back into bed and pulling the covers up to my chin.

Laney's car was in the shop so instead of driving, I walked to school. I was kind of thankful for it though, because it helped me wake myself up.
I was about to open my locker when I heard my best friend screeching from down the hall.

“SHELBY!” I laughed and she ran towards me, jumping into a hug.

“Hey Haley!” I replied with not nearly as much enthusiasm. Even though i had missed my best friend, I was still too tired to act like a functioning human being.

“Oh my god it is so good to see you. My ‘family vacation’ was miserable. I mean, who goes to Minnesota for spring break?”

“I'm sorry. I wish you could've come to Lane’s wedding.”

“Me too. Speaking of, how was it?”

“It was so beautiful. Laney looked gorgeous- as always- and their first dance was adorable.”

“What else? Does sir Matthew have any hot brothers? Cousins?” I looked away because I knew that she would be able to read me. “Oh my God there is someone! Who? Is he cute? Well obviously, if you get all flustered about him. What does he look like? Do we know him?” She started to ramble, but soon caught herself and looked at me expectantly.

“Well, his name is Alex. He's a friend of his.”

“Last name?”

“That doesn't matter. It's not like it'll go anywhere anyways.”

“Come on, Shelby, I know that look. He asked you out, didn't he?”

“We went out on Saturday” She pressed for details and I told her with a big grin on my lips. “It was really sweet.”

“Does I know him? There are a lot of hot Alex's at our school but I doubt they'd be that thoughtful.”

“No, he um,” I paused to think if I wanted to tell her. I knew she was a big fan of All Time Low, so if I told her she would probably freak out. “He doesn't go here.”

“Well that's okay. I'll just have to meet him some other time. This is really big for us, ya know? We're both moving-” I stopped her with a glare. “We're moving on Shel, we're going to be okay.” I smiled at her and we hugged shortly before the tardy bell rang. From the end of the hall we heard the Vice Principal shriek at us. “Girls!”









It was ten minutes until the bell rang, which would signal that school was over. I was stuck in Math and falling asleep when I felt my phone buzz. I took it out of my back pocket and smiled when I saw the name on the screen.

Alex: what do you think about sonic?

Me: I would literally marry the ocean water if that's what you're asking.

Alex:okay that's good to know. Pleasure doing business with you.

I smiled and put my phone back in my pocket before I could get caught.


As I was was leaving the main building and heading to the back of the school i saw Alex leaning against the front of his car, a bag and drink from sonic in his hands. He held them up like trophies when he saw me walking towards him and I grinned.

“You didn't have to do this, but I am forever thankful for you.” I said as he handed me the blue drink. I took a sip and moaned. “You're the best.” I found my arm around his neck and kissed his cheek before sliding into the passenger seat, Alex climbing into the drivers.

When we arrived at my house, I invited him in. I thought it would be rude if i didn't at least ask. He hesitated for a minute and I thought he was going to decline, but soon he was following me inside the house.

It was a little awkward at first. I asked him if he wanted a drink and he told me that water would be great. I set my bag on the kitchen table got us both bottles. We stood around awkwardly and just looked at each other. Then I laughed, realizing how stupid we were being.

“We had a good time on Saturday, getting to know each other, soit shouldn't be so weird, right? We already know each other.”

Alex grinned and shrugged his shoulders with his hands still in the pockets of his jeans. “Yeah, I guess you're right.” I handed him the water and we walked to the living room and sat on the leather couch.

“So, how was your day?” I asked. Alex shrugged.

“Pretty good. Me and the guys were just doing a little writing for the next album. How about you? First day back from vacation, right?”

“As good as it can be when you're locked in a building with a bunch of people who hate you.”

Alex chuckled. “Come on, I'm sure that don't all hate you. How can they?”

“Oh you don't even know. Sure maybe not everybody hates me, but the one girl who matters sure as hell does. She has a deep passion for public humiliation, and I've been her main focus since 8th grade. So maybe it everybody hates me, but I think they're just too scared of her to do anything. She doesn't bother me. Honestly I think it's kind of funny, in a pathetic way.”

“Well at least you've only got a few more months of miss funny pathetic.”

“Yep.” I popped the p. “Can't wait. Hopefully I can move out of my sisters house, too.” I laughed and he joined in.

“Well I live with Jack and Rian. It's like, a mirror of your house. Rian is definitely Lainey, because he's like our mother. I'm Matt , super cool, obviously amazing, and intelligent beyond belief, and Jack is like a five year old. At least you act your age.”

“Are you implying that I'm childish? And that you're intelligent?” I asked with a joking grin on my lips.

“Yes, because both are very true.”he replied like it was obvious. I chuckled and took a sip of my water.

Suddenly Alex phone started to ring. He excused himself and walked to the kitchen before answering. I decided to not be rude and eavesdrop, instead taking the time to think about Alex. He was cute, obviously. It was surprising he wasn't already tied down. And since he was getting pretty famous with All Time Low, there was no doubt that there were thousands of girls throwing themselves after him. He was sweet, and unbelievably funny; a few traits that I loved about anybody. He had the strangest sense of humor, which played off mine perfectly. I had only known him for 2 weeks, but I already liked him.

Alex started back towards the couch and stopped right in front of me. “Well, I should be going. That was Rian. He's kind of mad that I took a two hour long break.” My eyes widened and I glared at him.

“Seriously?! Alex, you didn't have to pick me up today! Or bring me food for that matter. And you shouldn't have come in if you knew that you were going to be late.” I suddenly realized why he had hesitated for that split second before entering my house.

“No, I wanted to. It was fun spending time with you, even if it was only for an hour. It was nice.”

“I liked it too. But don't do it again. I don't want ‘mamma bear’ to ground you.” We both chuckled and I walked him to the door. “Bye Alex. See you later.”

“Bye Shelby.”

Wow it's been a while. Oops. And this is probably really sucky, I haven't reread it. Double oops. But I'm hoping that I can get on a schedule soon. But for now here's this :)
