We've Got Unfinished Business

Nineteen

Four Months Later

I was in my dressing room with my mom, May, Kellin, Kellin's mom, Angie, and Aubrey. Today was the big day for Alex and me but I felt like curling into a ball and disappearing. I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and almost passed out. I looked so fat, there was no way I was leaving the room like this. My face was rounder, my stomach was now poking out, and my feet were starting to swell and throb.

"Jack?" My mom shook me. I looked down at her fixing my bow tie but didn’t answer. I knew the second I spoke my voice was going to shake. "Jack honey what's wrong?" She asked.

"Mom, I can’t do this." I said as tears began to fall from my eyes.

"Can’t do what, Jacky?" She asked worriedly.

"I can’t do this!" I gestured all around me. "I'm not getting married when I look like this. Alex isn't going to want to marry me when I look like this. And what if Alex doesn’t really want to marry me anyways??" I began to cry and sat down on the couch.

"Jack no that's just the hormones speaking. You're not ugly and you love Alex and he loves you just as much. Everything is fine." Kellin walked over and told me.

"I can't do this." I repeated and shook my head.

My mom sighed and took a seat next to me. She grabbed a tissue and wiped away some of my tears. More kept falling from my eyes though.

"No no your makeup!" Angie yelled as she grabbed a tissue and tried her best to dry my tears too. She had put foundation on me to make my skin look perfect.

"Don't worry about it, I'm calling the wedding off." I sniffled.

"No you're not! Jack you didn't come this far just to quit because you're hormones." May fussed at me. "You just told us how happy you were to marry Alex yesterday night and now you want to call the wedding off?!" What she was saying was completely reasonable, but it still didn't convince me to want to walk out in front of Alex and our families like this.

I stayed quiet and placed my head in my hands as everyone tried to talk me into not stopping the wedding.

"I'll be back, I'm going to go check on Alex." I heard Kellin say.

Alex

I was in my dressing room with my mom, dad, Rian, Zack, Vic, and Mike. Today was the big day for Jack and I and I felt like I couldn't be happier. The wedding was set to begin in twenty minutes, but I was ready to go now. I just wanted to get this over with so I could finally call Jack my husband. I wanted to show him I love him and only him forever. Especially after all I put him through with Lisa, this was the best way to prove that I will always love him.

"Alex, you look so handsome!" My mom told me.

"Thanks! I feel sexy in this suit." I said and she laughed with me.

"Do you have the ring?" She asked.

"I gave it to Rian already. I was kind of afraid that I would misplace it."

"Yeah that's why I asked." She chuckled.

"I've got it right here in my front pocket." Rian said. He was my best man since he beat Zack in a coin flip.

"Perfect! Thanks man." I told him.

"I'm just happy you're actually going through with this wedding." Zack joked and I playfully rolled my eyes.

"Yeah, hopefully this is the last time I’ll have to do anything wedding related."

I turned to look in the mirror at myself. I began touching up my hair when I saw Kellin come in.

"Hey, how's everything going in here?" He asked.

"We're fine. How are you guys and Jack?" I asked.

"Um good." He answered quickly while playing with his fingers.

"He's lying." Vic said. "He always pops his knuckles when he's lying."

Kellin rolled his eyes and quickly stopped touching his hands.

"What's really going on, Kellin?" I asked.

"Jack is kind of nervous about the wedding. He isn't very confident in the way he looks right now. We’re trying to talk him out of doing anything drastic." He explained.

“Drastic? Like what?” I asked.

“Like trying to call the wedding off.” He mumbled.

"He's backing out of it?" It felt like my heart was falling into my stomach.

"I don't think he wants to. Honestly it might just be his hormones. But he won't listen to any of us." He said.

"It has to be the pregnancy hormones." My mom agreed.

I quickly took off out of my room and ran to Jack's dressing room. The door was closed but unlocked. I opened the door and tried to find Jack, and as soon as my eyes landed on him I was being pushed and yelled at to leave the room.

"You're not supposed to see him yet!" May yelled at me and shut the door in my face.

"I just need to speak to him!!" I said desperately.

"Well do it through the door." Angie said and I rolled my eyes.

"Jack! Jack can you hear me?!?"

"Daddy!" Aubrey exclaimed.

"Aubrey I need to talk to your other daddy." I told her. "Jack please talk to me." I begged.

"Go away." Jack sobbed.

"Babe just talk to me. Tell me what's wrong."

"I look hideous! My stomach is bigger and my face looks fat!" He cried.

"You're not hideous, Jack. You're beautiful! And you're pregnant with our beautiful baby boy so of course your stomach is growing. You’re carrying him for us and I'm so thankful for that. I would have to be insane to not marry you because of the way you look especially when you're just pregnant."

"I don't want everyone staring at me like this."

"Then I'll tell everyone to close their eyes."

"Alex I'm serious!"

"And so am I! Anything that I can do to make you feel more comfortable with our wedding I'll do it. Just as long as we end the day with you as my husband." I said hopefully.

He didn't say anything after that, I just heard more sniffling from behind the door.

"Alex." Rian called my name and I looked at him. "Come on it's time for you to walk out to the altar." He told me.

"Okay." I sighed. "Jack I'm going to go stand in my spot so the wedding can start. If you honestly don't want to do this then I-I'll understand. I'll love you either way." I told him. I still didn't get a response. "I love you baby." I said and walked off with Rian.

We stood at the door and waited for the music to begin playing. Once it did, I walked out and went to stand on the spoke I stood at in rehearsals. A few minutes later Rian and Kellin walked out together since they were both our best mans. Slowly everyone who was in the wedding was standing at the altar with me. Aubrey walked out next in her cute flower girl dress with a basket full of rose petals. She stood at the door way nervously and slowly walked out. She threw a few petals out as she walked down the aisle. The she became more nervous so she stopped in the middle of the aisle and turned the basket upside down. All the petals landed in a pile and she took off running to my mom. Soft laughter and the flash of camera lights went off. I smiled knowing she did the best that she could.

The music that Jack was supposed to walk out to began playing next. Everyone rose and looked towards the doorway waiting for Jack to walk out. The music played for a minute but it felt like an hour. Jack was supposed to walk out by now. I looked at Kellin and he shrugged.

I stepped a foot off of the altar about to go check on Jack again, but I saw him and his mother step in front of the door way. She stuck a Kleenex in her cleavage and held her arm out for Jack. He locked his arm with his and they slowly began to walk down the aisle. They both chuckled when they say the pile of rose petals in the middle of the floor, but they stepped over them. Joyce brought Jack all the way to me and let him go. She walked over to me and lift up on her tippy-toes towards my ear. I thought she was going to whisper a death threat to me but instead she kissed me on the cheek. I smiled at her as she went to take her seat and then I looked at Jack.

"You look gorgeous." I whispered to him and a tear fell from his eye.

"Thank you." He whispered back.

I wanted to hold him in my arms and kiss him, but we had to get through the wedding first. I grabbed his hands and he smiled at me before turning to face the justice of the peace.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today in the presence of these witnesses, to join Alex and Jack in matrimony commended to be honorable among all . . ."

"Why were the rose petals in the middle of the floor?" Jack laughed in our limo that had just married on the back. We and Aubrey were on our way to meet everyone to the building we rented out for our wedding reception.

"Aubrey just dumped them on the floor and ran to my mom. I think she was nervous." I laughed.

"Sorry!" Aubrey said as she ate her candy. I gave her fruit snacks to thank her for being such a good flower girl.

"It's okay baby. I was nervous too." Jack told her.

"Was baby nervous?" She asked and pointed to Jack's stomach.

"Yes he was very nervous. He was moving the entire time." He chuckled. I laid my hand down on his stomach and began to rub it.

"It wasn't so bad right?" I asked him after a while.

"No it wasn't bad at all. It had to be my hormones because I felt completely fine during the wedding. Plus I couldn't really focus on anyone else but you. It felt like we were alone in the room."

"If we were alone you wouldn't have had your clothes on." I said and he blushed.

"Alex! Don't talk like that in front of Aubrey." He chuckled.

"It's not like she understands." I said and pulled him to kiss me. He jumped and pulled away from me. I panicked automatically thinking something bad happened when he looked down at his stomach. I looked down to see Aubrey trying to push a fruit snack into Jack's stomach.

"Honey what are you doing?" Jack asked her.

"Sharing." She said innocently and I laughed. Jack just shrugged and came back to kiss me.

"I love you." I told him against his lips.

"I love you too."
