This Ride Is A Wild One

“We have new information about what happened to Jack while he was there” the officer spoke over the phone. “We believe that he went under some form of temporary brainwashing. We have gained this information from the male we have in custody. That is all we’ve been able to get from him. We’ve had a specialist take a look at your boyfriend, and we believe that we can return his memory back to normal” Amy sighed with relief.
“However, we’re unsure of how long it will take”
“What do you mean?”
“Well we believe that we can return his memory, it just depends on how well his mind cooperates with us. Depending on how strong the brainwashing was, it may take weeks for us to return him back to normal” Amy swallowed, the thought of not having the Jack she loved back for weeks killed her.
“Okay, thank you for everything” she spoke down the phone before hanging up. She sighed, running a hand through her hair and plonked herself down on the couch. It had been over a week since Jack had returned, and it had been awful. From what her and Alex could gather, Jack had his mind tampered with. He had been made to think that Alex and Amy were soon to be married, in the hope that he would go crawling back to Holly. Over Amy’s dead body would she let him near her ever again.

Living arrangements had been awkward. As Alex and Amy were going along with Jack for the sake of confusing him, Jack was now staying over at Alex’s new place while Alex stayed with Amy. Jack had refused to stay with her because ‘Alex would get mad’. Alex slept on their couch despite Amy’s protest of it not being awkward. Alex couldn't bring himself to share a bed with her as he was afraid he’d end up spilling his feelings for her. This whole thing was killing him just as much as it killed Amy. He felt like his feelings for her were finally fading, then this happened and it was almost like a punch to the face to him. To have someone genuinely believe that the two were to be married was hurting him. He didn’t want to take advantage of this situation. He was better than that, and he promised to be Jack’s best man at his wedding. He would fulfil that promise despite his feelings. He just wanted to see the couple finally happy. Their wedding day would be so special. They have overcome so much that they deserved it.

“Any plans for this evening?” Amy asked walking in on Alex mid phone call. She paused by the door to let him finish.
“Yeah sure, man… Of course I’ll bring her” he looked to Amy, smiling.
“Sounds good to me. We’ll be there soon” he smiled, hanging up the phone. He turned to Amy, huge grin on his face “Jack wants to go out for drinks” Amy rolled her eyes imaging the drunken mess Alex and Jack would be in by the end of the night. She chuckled to herself, leaving to get herself ready.

“SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS” Jack chanted as the three of them knocked back three more. Amy’s face scrunched up as the burning hit the back of her throat “Wow they’re strong” she grimaced “Let’s go dance” Jack pulled the pair to the middle of the floor, immediately dancing out of tune with the current song. Alex and Amy decided to mess about, Alex taking her hand and spinning her before he caught something out of the corner of his eye ”What?” Amy asked “Uhh, nothing” Alex tried to keep Amy distracted as he tried to get her to dance again. Amy wasn’t buying it. She stood up straight, turning around, her heart dropping to the floor. There was Jack, in the corner, heavily making out with some girl. She knew that he didn’t know any better, and that’s why it upset her. She pulled away from Alex, storming over towards him as Alex called her name. She approached the pair, grabbing Jack’s shoulder and pulling him off of the girl “What the hell?” the girl screeched, “Do you mind not sucking on my boyfriend’s face” Amy said far too calmly. “Amy what the fuck?” Jack turned to her. “YOU’RE HIS GIRLFRIEND?” the girl shouted in horror before dashing off to god knows where. “We’re leaving, now” Amy said, dragging him towards the door, motioning for Alex to follow them.

“You’re not my mother, you know” Jack was pissed as he took a seat on the couch in their apartment. Amy would make sure he stayed there the night so that he couldn’t go straight back out and do god knows what with the girls in that club. “Jack you know those girls are no good for you” she crossed her arms, trying to think of an excuse for her behaviour. “She’s right. You’re a grown ass man, Jack” Alex said from next to her. “You’re really making me feel like shit right now” Jack stood, now furious “You think I can’t go out and have some fun? Sorry because you two are getting married and I’m not! You know I’m not one for long term relationships or marriage! I never have been. I’ve never been good with women which I why I mess around with them instead of relationships. I don’t want a relationship or marriage, so just leave me to do what I want” he shouted. Amy’s heart broke. She wasn’t sure if this was all the brainwashing, or whether it was his subconscious speaking the truth. Maybe he just felt sorry for her which was the only reason why he proposed to her in the first place. This is why he hadn’t mentioned the proposal at all since everything happened. Amy could feel another anxiety attack coming as the tears streamed down her face. She grabbed a fist full of Alex’s shirt as he tried to calm her down. Jack didn’t know what to do, so he left. Left without saying a word.
