I was so relieved that my parents didn’t mention anything about the Clark’s or them seeing me at the mall with Jack. I swear, I was a dead man.
If they found out, I’d be over, my life would be finished. I would have no money, no where to go, I would probably live on the streets.
All I have to do, is finish this year. Then I can go to college, and never come home again. The only reason Tom ever comes home is to talk to me, beg for stories about Jack, and keep me sane pretty much.
Well, he’s not coming home tomorrow for Thanksgiving, because we’ve never really ever celebrated Thanksgiving in the first place, and he wants to spend it with his boyfriend. He just told our parents that he has ‘a lot to study for,’ when he and his guy will probably just spend the day fucking. Good for him.
Rian’s family has a huge celebration for Thanksgiving every year, and he invited me and everyone else to join him, and after a lot of convincing my parents, I was able to go.
I’m just really excited to spend a holiday with my friends, even though I barely understand what it is, it’s always fun getting away from my parents. Plus, Jack will be there. I feel bad because his family is never home, and he always gets bummed out around the holidays.
I can’t believe his parents just left their kid in Baltimore while they are off in places like Ireland and Greenland. They barely even call. I guess we both have parents that suck, one of the very few things we have in common.
I looked up from my guitar when I felt my phone buzz, and picked it up to see that it was Rian texting me.
To Alex:
Hey bambi, do you mind coming to the grocery store with me? Your house is on the way there, my mom gave me a list and I don’t know what any of the crap that’s on it is
To Rian:
Sure, I won’t be the best help but I’ll keep you company
To Alex:
Haha sweet, I’ll be there in 5
I quickly got up to get dressed. I didn’t know he would be here that fast!
I ripped off my pajama pants, and put on some denim skinny jeans. I swiped some deodorant under my arms, grabbed a dark green shirt, and ran to the bathroom to brush my teeth. Yikes, my hair looks horrible. I ran to my room and grabbed a black beanie, tripping over a pair of shoes as I tried to run back to the bathroom for my toothbrush. I slipped the black vans on my feet, and when I looked up I saw Rian’s car pull into the driveway. Fuck.
I grabbed my phone, found some mint gum to chew on so my breath doesn’t horribly offend him, and went out the door.
That’s pretty good for just five minutes.
“Hey man!” Rian greeted with his flashy white smile, i tried to look equally as friendly but I couldn’t. Nobody is as friendly as Rian.
“I’m ready to buy some shit,” I chuckled, making him laugh. I realized I’ve never really been alone with Rian before.
I’ve always been with Jack, or with him and Cass, I mean I don’t mind just him, he’s a great guy.
“Yeah, just look at the stuff she wrote down. It’s insane.” he said, handing me a small piece of paper with his eyes still on the road. I skimmed down the oddly specific list of groceries.
“A 20 pound turkey?!?”
“Yup, there’s going to be like 30 people coming to this thing.” he excplained, I had to hold back a cringe.
That’s way too many people. I can’t complain, but I will probably just hide behind Jack the entire time.
“So, who from our friends are going?” I asked curiously
“Everyone, Cass, Jack, Zack, Brendan, Hayley, Tay-”
“Ugh,” I groaned, feeling guilty afterward. I just don’t like Tay.
“It’s fine Bambi, I think that she’s gotten back together with Zack. Besides, if I ever saw her trying to put moves down on Jack, I’d stop it and tell you right away.” Rian assured me.
I smiled, damn he’s a good friend. He’s literally the sweetest guy, Jack told me that everybody goes through a ‘oh my god you’re so kind, marry me’ phase when they first meet Rian.
I’m starting to relate to that now.
“Thank’s dude,” I said, he smiled at me. The grocery store wasn’t that far, it was like 2 minutes away by this point. I stared out the window as we drove along what seemed to be an abandoned intersection.
It seemed to be abandoned.
I watched as a bright red car kept driving, missing the stop sign completely, and sped directly towards the side of the car. My side of the car.
I didn’t have enough time for another breath, my head smashed into the window, I felt the glass shatter against my skull.
All I could see was darkness.
