Running Around Leaving Scars

Left Behind

It had been a couple of weeks and the concert was today. Kaiya rolled over and curled closer to her pillow. Just as she was falling asleep again, she heard her shade get yanked up. And within a couple seconds, the bright sunlight was hitting her eyes. She groaned and pulled the blanket over her eyes. Annika quickly yanked her blankets away. “Today’s the day!” She exclaimed with an excited smile on her face.

Kaiya rolled over and brushed burgundy strands out of her face. She turned and checked her alarm clock and felt her eyes widen. She sat up quickly and glared at her best friend. “It’s seven in the fucking morning. There are twelve hours before the freaking concert and it will take us an hour or less to get there. Why are you waking me up now?” She groaned. Annika gave a shrug and pulled on Kaiya’s hand anyways.

“Come on. We’ve got lots to do today!” Kaiya groaned as Annika pushed her towards the bathroom. “You should shower first, so when I want to shower I actually get some of the hot water,” Annika smiled as Kaiya glared at her for a moment. She closed the door in Annika’s face and turned on the light and fan. She pulled on the water and waited for it to get warm before stepping into the shower.

Meanwhile, Annika turned on All Time Low music and blasted it to get into the mood as she danced around while doing chores that needed to be finished before they left. She laughed and smiled when her phone rang. “Hello, oh hey Ry,” She felt a smile come to her face. Despite the fact that Kaiya and he were not on speaking terms, he was still one of her closest friends. “Probably. But it would have to be after the concert,” Annika’s smile grew wider as he talked to her about hanging out after the concert and having some kind of party. “That sounds fun,” She smiled at the thought of some lovely vodka based drinks she would love to have. “I’ll see you after the concert’s over,” She hung up the phone and quickly made her way to the kitchen to empty out the dishwasher.

Kaiya stepped out of the shower and took a deep breath. She wrapped a towel around her body and grabbed her discarded pajamas and made her way back to her room. She stood in front of her mirror and let out a soft sigh. Today was going to be long, she was sure of that. She brushed through her hair and looked through her clothes. She was about to pull out a pair of jeans and a t-shirt when she realized that Annika would veto that idea. And dealing with Annika when she didn’t agree with you was not something Kaiya felt like doing today. She pulled on her under garments and ended up looking through every shirt she had. She ended up grabbing a black halter top and pulling on a pair of pajama pants until she could decide on the rest of her outfit.
After some thought she went to grab her favorite pair of jeans. “You are going to wear a skirt right?” Kaiya felt like she could punch Annika at the moment. What lunatic wore a skirt in January, well let her rephrase that question… What lunatic who lived in New York, wore a skirt in January? Annika came in wearing an All Time Low t-shirt and skinny jeans. “Because you look amazing in a skirt… And we want to look our best don’t we?”

“Will you keep bugging me if I don’t?” When Annika nodded, Kaiya sighed, “Remind me why we’re friends?” She looked through her closet and ended up pulling out a purple and black plaid skirt. “Am I at least allowed leggings?” Kaiya sighed in relief when Annika nodded.

“Ooo, these would be perfect,” She smiled as she held up Kaiya’s ripped leggings. So much for staying warm. Kaiya sighed and nodded. She shoved Annika out of her room and told her to shower before getting dressed. She got dressed and glanced into her mirror. After applying some light make-up, she walked out to the living room and spent the next couple of hours watching a movie as Annika ran around the apartment getting ready.

Once the clock hit four-thirty, the two were out the door and in Annika’s Mercedes. After about an hour of driving, they parked in the nearest lot and headed to the doors and stood in line. Kaiya shivered in the cold air as Annika pulled her coat closer. Once Annika noticed that Kaiya was cold she pulled her into a hug and whispered quietly. “They’ll let us in, in about fifteen minutes. It’ll be fun,” Kaiya nodded and looked away. Feeling angry towards Annika wasn’t going to get her anywhere.

“Do we have actual seats or are we going to be somewhere on the floor in front of the stage?” Annika looked at Kaiya with a huge smile. “Floor…Okay,” Kaiya sighed. She had been hoping to be able to sit at some point. The two made their way into the venue, had their tickets scanned and walked through the lobby area, past a merch table and onto the floor. They stood about three feet away from the stage and waited quietly for about another hour before the first band came out.

Kaiya smiled as Gabe Saporta made a few jokes and kicked off the concert with ‘The City is at War.’ Annika yawned and the two sang along with the songs. An hour later Gabe was thanking the audience, and All Time Low for having them on tour and introducing Hey Monday. And before Kaiya knew it, Cassidee was on stage with the rest of her band mates.

Kaiya cheered and sang along with the band as they played her favorite singles. Annika looked bored as she stood there in silence. Kaiya rolled her eyes and let out a soft sigh when Hey Monday’s hour was up. “Well it’s been amazing playing for you guys. Give it up for the main event, here’s All Time Low,” Cassidee introduced before making her way backstage with her friends. Soon after, four guys came out. Kaiya glanced to her right to see Annika swooning already. Kaiya followed Annika’s line of sight straight to the guitarist. She rolled her eyes and chuckled. There was no chance in hell, so why was Annika even thinking like that. Musicians dated actresses or other famous people. Not plain Janes like themselves.

They started playing a song and Kaiya checked her watch since she forgot her phone in the car. It was about nine, and main bands usually played for an hour and half to two hours. She let out a soft sigh and made her way out to the lobby to use the rest room and rinse her face. She walked back in after showing the bracelets that people on the floor had to have and made her way back towards where she had been standing with Annika. She wasn’t too surprised when she didn’t fine Annika where she had been previously. Knowing her best friend as well as she did, told her that Annika was definitely front and center at this point.

The only thing that had Kaiya concerned was that she had asked Annika to hold onto her twenty dollar bill since her jeans had deeper pockets. The band was about to finish their set when they asked which song the audience wanted to hear. They played one last song and thanked everyone for coming and tried to nicely persuade people to stop by the merch table. Kaiya slowly made her way from the floor, trying to keep an eye out for Annika. When she didn’t find her, she figured that she would just meet her friend at the car.

After a few minutes of brisk walking in the frigid air, she made it to the parking lot just to find out that Annika’s Mercedes was gone. “That fucking bitch, and I bet she sent me a text apologizing which would be great if I had my fucking phone,” Kaiya slowly made her way back to the venue and walked back into the lobby to try and stay warm while she figured out what she was going to do. She had no money, no phone and no way to get home. She leaned against a wall and closed her eyes in thought. After standing around for about half an hour she heard four male voices talking and laughing.

She heard the laughing come to an abrupt halt and glanced up to meet four sets of brown eyes. They all looked hesitant and questioning. No doubt afraid they had just met a straggling groupie. Kaiya prayed that security would not be called to throw her back out into the cold January air.
