What's My Age Again?

Three

Saturday night couldn't come fast enough. I was at home sitting on my mom’s bed. She wanted me to keep her company while she got ready for work and I waited for Kellin and Vic to come pick me up. I was nervous to see Alex again without alcohol to give me some confidence. I was also prepared to embarrass myself tonight.

"Jack?" My mom said looking at me concerned.

"Yeah mom?"

"I asked if you could bring me my shoes from my closet." She repeated.

"Oh sorry!" I went to her closet and brought her the shoes she wanted.

"Are you okay, honey? You seem kind of out of it." She said.

"Yeah I'm fine. I was just daydreaming."

"Okay. Well I have to go before I'm late. What time is Kellin coming to get you?" She asked.

"Kellin said eight-thirty but that really means eight forty-five to him." I said and she laughed.
"Be careful! And text me when you make it back home." She warned.

"Okay. Bye Mom."

"Bye." She kissed me on the forehead and left.

I went to the living room so I could be closer to the front door when they got here. I checked Twitter to see if Alex said anything else about tonight, but he just commented on how fun Rocktober was.

I received a message from Kellin saying they were outside which really meant they were a minute away. I put on my Nikes and went to get my wallet I left upstairs in my room. By the time I retrieved it and went out to lock the door, they were just pulling up. I smiled to myself and went to the backseat of Vic's truck. I also saw a SUV trailing behind them. I think it was Vic's brother and they're band mates.

"Hey!" I greeted them as I got in.

"Hey! Sorry we took so long, but Kellin took an hour on his hair." Vic apologized.

"Whatever we're just fifteen minutes late." Kellin hit his arm.

"It's okay, I'm used to it." I chuckled.

"Are you ready to see Alex?" Kellin asked me.

"No I have butterflies."

"Don't be nervous. Alex is really chill, you have absolutely nothing to worry about." Vic said. "Plus he hasn't dated anyone in a while. He's worries about people dating him because he's in a band instead of taking time to get to know him."

"See you didn't even know of the band until you met him so that's bonus points." Kellin added. That explained why Alex was so shocked to hear that I had never heard of them.

"I don't know. I feel like I'm going to say the wrong things around him and he's going to think I'm weird and never talk to me again." I rambled.

"Unless you say 'The Ravens suck' you should be fine." Vic joked.

"Never! I love the Ravens." I told him.

"Oh then he'll love you."

We talked the rest of the way about everyone else that would be there. They just gave me brief descriptions of everyone so I wouldn't be completely lost when I was introduced. It was going to be some people from the party last week, but I didn't remember most of the people I met there.

The drive was only twenty minutes to the haunted house. When Vic stopped the car I felt nervous all over again. I didn't want to get out, but Kellin was going to make me even if he had to drag me out.

The line was super long like we were probably going to spend an hour alone waiting. It was the weekend before Halloween so it made sense. It was a good thing we all bought tickets online so we wouldn't have to stand in two lines. We weren't going to get in line until everyone was here.

The SUV that was following behind us was Vic's brother and band mates and their girlfriends. I couldn't remember their names, I was planning on asking Kellin later on. It was only going to be the people from Pierce the Veil and All Time Low here tonight.

Another car came a few minutes later and Kellin looked at me with a smile on his face. It had to be the car Alex was in. The people got out and Vic’s brother began to wave his arms to show them where we were. They began to walk in our direction. I saw Alex walking next to a girl with long brown hair and I felt my heart drop into my stomach.

"He bought someone else." I complained to Kellin and he looked in their direction.

"No Jack, that's Cassadee, Rian's girlfriend." He laughed.

"Ooooh!" I exclaimed and laughed along with him.

Everyone greeted each other when they finally made their way too us. I introduced myself to their tour manager, Matt, since I didn’t remember seeing him at the party. I blushed as Cassadee and I introduced ourselves to each other. I was embarrassed that I was prepared to hate her for coming with Alex.

Alex was talking with some of the Pierce the Veil guys. I stood closely with Kellin refusing to go anywhere near him.

"Go say hello." Kellin demanded as if I was a toddler.

"I can't! I'm going to throw up!" I whined and he laughed at me.

"You're so dramatic. He's just a normal person like you and I."

"I can't go!" I was facing away from Alex and towards Kellin but I could tell something was going to happen cause Kellin was looking behind me.

"That's okay you don't have to go to him cause he's coming to us now." He giggled.

"What? No!" I whispered.

"Hey Alex!" Kellin said with a huge smile on his face. I turned around, but I did my best not to look nervous.

"Hey! How are you?" Alex asked and they hugged.

"I'm great! You remember my friend, Jack don't you?" Kellin asked him.

"Yeah of course! Nice to see you again Jack." He smiled at me.

"Nice to see you too." I said politely.

"I um think I heard Vic call me." Kellin lied as he walked away. I was going to kill him and bury him in my backyard later. I stood awkwardly not knowing what in the world to say to Alex.

"Did you ever get a chance to listen to us?" He asked hopefully. Shit I knew there was something I was supposed to do.

"Um no not yet." I said and he kind of looked hurt. "But my sister went to the Rocktober concert and she said you guys sounded awesome so you have to be really good if she liked you." I told him and he laughed.

"You'll never know if you don't listen for yourself." He taunted and I giggled.

"Okay I will listen to it tonight I promise."

"Good!"

Everyone began to walk to the line so we followed behind them. Kellin looked at me and gave me a reassuring thumbs up. I rolled my eyes at him.

"So are you ready for this?" Alex asked. I realized that we were going to be in line next to each other for the next hour.

"No I'm so scared." I said.

"Aw don't be! I'm sure it won't be that bad." He said.

"As long as we don't see Freddy Kruger I think I'll be fine." I gulped. May used to make me watch Nightmare on Elm Street with her all the time and now I had a fear of Freddy Kruger.

"I can't say for sure, but if we do. I'll protect you." He said sweetly.

"Thank you."

***
I took deep breathes as we finally walked out of the haunted house. That was the longest forty-five minutes of my life. Alex stayed with me the entire time and he even helped me through walk past the guy dressed up as Freddy Kruger. Our arms were locked the entire time.

"I'm sorry if I bruised your arm from holding on to you so tightly." I giggled and apologized to Alex.

"No it's all good! I'm just happy you made it out with fainting. I was sure I was going to have to carry you when I saw Kruger." He chuckled. I wasn't as nervous around as I was before. I was used to being around him after making small talk while we stood in line and being attached to him as we went through the haunted house.

"You guys want to go get something to eat?" Vic's band mate, Jaime, asked. Everyone agreed that they were hungry so we decided on a pizza place that stayed open ‘til two am. We began to walk back towards the parking lot so we could leave.

Alex and I were behind everyone, walking side by side. "Did you ride with Kellin and Vic?" He asked me.

"Yeah, the two love birds." I playfully rolled my eyes.

"That must be annoying." He chuckled.

"Sometimes."

"How about I ride with you so it's not as bad?" He asked and I looked at him to see if he was serious.
"Yeah if you want too." I tried not to sound too eager.

He followed me to Vic's truck after telling Rian he wasn't going to ride with them. Kellin looked at me trying to question me with his eyes but I just shrugged.

"You're riding with us, Alex?" Vic asked him.

"Yep!" Alex answered.

"Cool."

I got in on the right and Alex sat at the other end on the left. Kellin and Vic were talking about the scariest parts of the haunted house and Alex was texting on his phone. I texted my mom to let her know we were going to get food so she wouldn't worry about me.

Alex sat his phone down at the same time I put mine back down. I could feel his eyes on me every time he looked my way. I tried to think of something to say to start a conversation between us too, but my mind kept coming up blank. I couldn't think straight when I was around him.

"Jack I'm so surprised you didn't have a heart attack when Freddy Kruger came out." Kellin laughed.

"Shut up! Alex helped me walk past him." I said and Alex smiled at me.

"I think he was on the verge of having a heart attack." Alex joked and I fake glared at him.

"You two are jerks." I said and they both laughed.

Luckily the pizzeria wasn't crowded when we made it there. There were only a few other couples. We all got in line to order our food. I was still next to Alex for some reason, but that was a good thing.

We both ordered our food and took our trays to a four seat-er table so Vic and Kellin could sit in front of us once they ordered. Alex and I were going to be sitting next to each other and across from them. It looked like we were on a double date with each other.

"You didn't want any beer?" Alex asked and picked up his bud light to take a sip.

"No I'm not really a beer person." That was partly true, I also wasn't old enough to buy one.

"Really? What's wrong with you?" He joked.

"There's nothing wrong with me. There's something wrong with you for actually drinking that stuff." I almost gagged thinking of the taste of beer.

"We can just agree to disagree." He chuckled.

Vic and Kellin walked to our table with their food and we stopped our conversation. Kellin sat across from me while Vic sat across from Alex. Vic and Alex mostly talked while we ate and Kellin and I talked to each other about irrelevant things. It actually did feel like a real double date.

The night ended with everyone talking in the parking. We were getting ready to call it a night. Alex was standing with Rian talking to him about something while I stood with Kellin and Cassadee. It was almost one am and I was ready to go home and go to bed.

"It was nice seeing you again, Jack!" Cassadee said and hugged me.

"You too, Cassadee!" I exclaimed and she laughed.

"You can call me Cass." She told me and I told her okay.

I waved to Rian as he put his arm around her and they walked towards the car. Alex walked up to me next. He was going to ride home with his friends since they lived together.

"Thanks again for dealing with me at the haunted house." I said and he laughed.

"It was my pleasure." He looked down nervously. "So I was wondering if I could give you my number so we can um text...after you'd listened to a few of our songs." He rushed out the last part as if he was adding it at the last minute.

"Yeah of course!" I unlocked my phone and handed it to him. I watched in amazement as he typed his information into my phone.

"Don't forget you promised to listen to it tonight." He reminded me.

"I know, I still will and I'll text you." I told him.

"Okay. Well it was nice spending time with you again." He opened his arms and invited me in for a hug. I hesitated for a second and then stepped into his embrace. He was taller than me so my head hit his chest. We both pulled away from each other and said goodbye again.

I walked to Vic's truck and got in with Kellin and Vic. I braced myself for Kellin's cheers since I saw him watching Alex and my whole interaction.

"I'm so proud of you Jack!" Kellin told me. "You actually spent a lot of time with him and you got his number!"

"I know! I kind of shocked myself." I laughed.

"I told you, you had nothing to worry about." Vic said.

"Yeah you were right." For once something I did went right. I couldn't believe I had Alex's number and I was going to text him tonight.

"Jack, I'm not going to stay over with you." Kellin turned towards me and made eye contact with me. I understand he was trying to tell me to cover for him so his mom wouldn't get suspicious.

"Where are you actually going?" I asked.

"With Vic!" He said happily and I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah alright."

I can't even tell you how good this story came out. Your story line is so strong and your character development was awesome. You were right to hold off the bit about the sequel. Always keep them wanting more. I forget who said that but he was famous and right so we will just go with it. I can't wait to read the sequel. I think Alex's love for Jack will overcome everything. You can't tell your heart what it wants.
