Dawn’s POV
“Jack, wake up,” I said as I shook him gently.
“Five more minutes,” he mumbled as he buried his face in the pillow.
I started to nip at his ear. “Jaaack, you said that we could sign a marriage certificate soon. I just look at my phone and found out that we can here. Can we?”
“Sure. Just give me five more minutes.”
“Really? We can today?”
“Yeah. I just want some more sleep before we go. Why do you want to get married so fast now?”
“I know that I’m being selfish, but I want to rub it in my dad’s face. You’re not mad at me, right?”
He sighed, put his glasses on, and then looked at me. “I could never be mad at you. Besides, I understand. I kind of want to get married right now for the same reason.”
“You do?” He nodded. “I still feel kinda bad because this means that we won’t have a wedding and I know that you wanted one.”
“I could care less if it was something that you didn’t want. We can still have a wedding after the baby is born.”
“It won’t be the same though.”
“Dawn, it’s fine. You don’t have to be so upset about it.” He sounded annoyed.
“I’m sorry.”
“About what?”
“I’m annoying you.”
“I’m just still tired. I’m sorry that I snapped at you.”
“It’s fine.”
He got out of the bunk and then peeked his head back in. “You coming? I thought you said that you wanted to get married today.”
I raised my eyebrow. “I thought that you said that you wanted to sleep longer.”
“I’m awake now, so let’s go.”
We got up and then got dressed. I was the one that called the taxi to take us to town. Once there, I grabbed Jack’s hand and started skipping through town to where we were going to sign the license. You would think that we would have the taxi take us to the place, but we had it take us about five minutes away. Jack wanted to take me out to eat afterward. He was such a gentleman.
“I can’t believe that we’re married now,” I say after everything was done and we were walking into an asian buffet.
“I know, right? To think, less than a year ago, I never thought that I would ever get married and have a kid with said girl.”
“Same here, but I never thought that I would ever have a boyfriend again.”
The waitress came and brought us to our seats. We told her what we wanted and then got up to get out food. “I was surprised that you didn’t have a boyfriend.”
I grabbed about five egg custards. “Why’s that?”
“Well, there are a lot of guys out there that you could have dated. You’re beautiful, smart, sweet, and talented. I’m amazed that you got back together with me.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re so much better than me. I can’t even be compared to you.”
I laughed. “I’m the one that can’t be compared to fyou. You’re an adorkable plushie. You’re hilarious, and kind. I’m just the girl that carved into her arm and almost got herself killed.”

He put his plate down and mine, placed both of his hands, and gave me a long kiss. When he finally pulled away, he wrapped his arms around me and pecked my nose. “You’re so much more than that. Listen to me. You’re perfect, and your flaws have only made you stronger. You don’t self-harm now, do you? No, you don’t. Instead, you’re perfectly healthy with me, and we are having a baby together. Just think about how you are going to feel in the months to come.”

“I’ll feel like crap.”

“Yeah, and you’re going to get through it. This will make you stronger too. It’ll make us both stronger. You’re not just some girl that self-harmed and almost died. You’re my wife and the mother of my child, and I love you with all my heart.”

I couldn’t stop the tear that ran down my face. “I love you too. I’m sorry. It’s just that I’ve always kept it all bottled up inside. I may have seemed stable all that time, but I wasn’t. I was a scared little girl, who really had no confidence. Yeah, I could sing on stage, but that was just because I loved doing it.”

“And you didn’t care what others thought of you when you were doing that because you love singing and playing bass so much.” I nodded. “Well, you love me. Why can’t I give you confidence?”

“You do. It’s just that... I don’t know. Sometimes it all comes back and gets to me.”

“You’re not just talking about after we broke up, are you?” I shook my head. “You’re thinking about how everything was for you before we even got together in the first place.” I nodded. “Did you...did you feel this way even when we dated for the first time?” I nodded again.

“I didn’t all that much though, but it still always found a way to sneak back into my brain. The shadows were always there somewhere in the deepest part of my mind. I’ve just been a time-bomb waiting to happen.”

His face fell. “I wish...I wish that I could make that all go away, but I guess that I can’t.”

“You’re wrong. You can. Ever notice that I get clingy at times? It’s because whenever I’m around you, it’s like there is a light shining through my head. Don’t be upset that you can’t fix me. I’ll never be fixed completely, but I have a light that goes by the name of Jack, and now I have a new light in my life as well because of you. You make me stronger. You’re the reason why I wanted to get better. You’re the reason why I don’t want to end my life anymore. I’ll always have a crack, but I don’t have nearly as many as I once did. You’re the cement that filled it in. That’s one of the many reasons why I love you.” I could hear some “awwws” coming from around us.

Jack smiled at what I said as he spoke. “I love you too. Now let’s eat.”

I nodded, and we grabbed our food before sitting down. I started by eating my egg custards. A couple of moans escaped my mouth. I couldn’t help it. Egg custard tastes freakin amazing!

“You enjoying that?”

“Almost as much as I enjoy you. You’re about 5% better.”

“Damn. I never thought that something could get that close to me. Can I try one?” He stuck her hand out in front of me.

“Mine. Go get your own.” He started pouting which made me laugh. “Ok, you can have one. I did say that you were still better, and I just love that face that you make. I can’t say no to it. You’re so cute.”

“Not as cute as you.”

“I’ll give in this time Barakat.”

“Alright Fox.”

“Did you ever notice that you’re last name sounds like bear and cat and you’re married to a girl that’s last name is fox? It’s like animal epicness.”

He chuckled. “Only you would point that out. I can’t wait to see how our kid acts.”

“Same. He/she is going to be the greatest kid ever.”

“You know it.”

Notes

It's almost done with now. You'll find out what gender the baby is in the next chapter. I don't know what to write in between those parts, so I'm skipping to it. Meow. P.S. I'm not sick anymore. Hooray!
