Jacks POV When I got back to the hospital and went to where Alex and Sky was Alex was singing quietly to her and she asleep. "How is she?" I asked quietly and Alex looked and me and got up and hugged me. "She's only just fell asleep. The doctors haven't said anything else to me." He said quietly. Alex let me go and walked back over to the cot and looked at Sky. I went over and sat on his lap and he just rested his head on my back and wrapped his arms round my middle. "What if she looses a limb or something?" I asked. "Dunno, we'll love her anyway and she's young so she won't know any better about having no arm or leg." Alex said. "Ture." I said. I felt Alex starting to mess with my ring. "She'll be okay Alex. If she needs medication and all that stuff then you don't have to worry. I can pay for this." I said since we had to pay for our health care and everything. "Did you pay for me?" He asked. "Duh, weren't gonna let you pay that by yourself. It was my fault why you was there in the first place." I said. I felt Alex nod into my back and yawn and loudly. I got off him and gently pulled Alex up and swapped places so Alex was now sat on me. He was sitting sideways and his head resting against my chest and he was hugging Sky's toy. I wrapped my arms round him too keep him warm. "Get some sleep, me and Sky will still be here when you wake up." I said quietly and kissed the top of his head. Alex nodded and got comfy and it wasn't going until I felt his breathes even out. I smiled and got my phone out and texted Seth to see how everyone was since he was the one in charge when me and Alex wasn't at home. I was just nodding off when the door opened. Alex sighed and woke up. "Hello, sorry that I've woken you up." The doctor said. "It's fine." Alex yawned and sat up. "Do you mind if I sit down?" He asked. "Not at all." I said and Alex got up and checked Sky who was still asleep. "What's wrong with our baby?" Alex asked quietly and looked at the doctor. "She has meningitis as you both know when I looked at her." The doctor said. "Is she going to be okay?" Alex asked. "Babe just let him speak." I said. The doctor smiled. "Your baby is very poorly." He said. "Kind of gathered that." Alex said sarcastically. "Alex!" I scolded him. "It's fine sir. It's normal and I'm used to it." The doctor said. "She has Bacterial meningitis. This is a serious type of meningitis and it could kill." He said. I looked at Alex, he was listening really carefully to what the doctor was saying. "So Sky could die?" He asked quietly. "We've managed to start her treatment straight away but we won't know if anything has happened for the next couple of days." He said. "So we're meant to just sit here and watch her die? What happens if it doesn't work?" I asked knowing Alex would probably loose his cool in a minute. "Someone will be checking on her every half an hour if that. Also you know your daughter better than us so you'll probably know if something is wrong. I can a sure you sir that nothing is going to happen to your daughter." He said. "You better hope and pray nothing does." I growled. "Jack don't." Alex said quietly. "I'll see you later then." He said and got up and walked out the room. I heard Alex sniff and I got up and hugged him. "Don't cry, she'll be okay." I said quietly and kissed the top of his head. "How can you be so sure? She could die Jack!" He said. "Stop thinking so negatively and start to think about the positive. It's hard I know but you have to for Sky." I said. Alex looked down and nodded. I put my hands on either side of his face and made him look at me. "She will make it. You just have to think about the good things more than the bad okay." I said and kissed him. Alex smiled a little. "You must be hungry, let's go and get something to eat." I said. "I'm not hungry." Alex said quietly. "You haven't eaten for two days Alex. I'm going to take you somewhere to eat." I said seriously and grabbed my stuff. "What if something happens?" He asked. "They have my number so the can call us." I said. Alex nodded and kissed Sky on the head. "We'll be back soon sweetie." He whispered and kissed her again. I went over and kissed her forehead and went back to Alex who got hold of my hand and we walked to the cafe.
We was sat at the cafe and Alex was just picked at his sandwich. "Please eat something babe." I said. Alex shook his head. "I can't bring myself to eat, I'm worried Jack what if nothing works." He said. "I'm worried as well. Everyone is worried about Sky. But you need your strength to help everyone through this. Your doing well as well, don't go back to your old habits please Lex, I'm begging you." Alex sighed a little. "I'm not going back to my old habits. I just can't eat. Maybe tomorrow when the docs tell us that the meds are working." He said. "You okay?" I asked since Alex doesn't really open up to me anymore so I have to ask him if he was okay now and then use his body language and the years I have been with him to see if he was lying or not. "I'm fine Jack." He said. I wrapped my feet round his ankles and he looked at me and smiled. Someone came and sat on our table and I looked at saw Seth and Aidan. "The fuck are you two doing here? Who's looking after Rowan? And why aren't you at school Aidan?" Alex said. "Came to see if you two was okay and see Sky. I left Tyler in charge of the little bugger." Seth said. I looked at Aidan. "I sort of might of walked out of school." She said and looked down. "For fuck sake Aidan!" Alex snapped. He got up and walked off, I'm guessing he's of back to Sky. "Not good then?" Seth asked. "She has bacterial meningitis which is bad. He's not coping well with it." I said. "She'll get over it. She always does." Aidan said quietly. I hummed in response and got up and Seth and Aidan followed. Seth went off on his skateboard. "Seth! Walk for fuck sake!" I said after him but he didn't listen. Aidan was carrying hers and was walking beside me. "We took Rowan to the skate park with us and he fucking loved it." She said. "Christ, another one to worry about." I chuckled. "Hey pa where's the room?" Seth asked. "Get of your board and walk. I don't want to be kicked out of here." I said and he got of and walked beside me.
We got to where Skys room was and Alex was stood outside his eyes fixed on the window and biting the edge of his nails. I walked over to him. "Babe what's up?" I asked. "S..S..She just stopped breathing." He said and a few tears fell and I pulled him into my chest. I looked at Seth and Aidan. "Want us to go home?" Aid asked. I nodded. "Okay." Seth said and walked over to Alex. Alex pulled back and looked at Seth. Seth pulled him into a hug and said something quietly in his ear and Alex nodded and pulled back and Aidan hugged him and they both went off leaving us to worry about Sky. I pulled Alex into my side and kissed the top off his head. I noticed he was shaking really badly. "Come and sit down before you pass out." I said and lead him to a seat and sat him down. "Lex, listen to me you have to slow your breathing down otherwise you'll be spending the night in a hospital bed away from Sky and I can't sit with both of you." I said quietly. "I can't." He said quietly. I kneeled in front of him and put my hands on his knees. "You should know the drill by now." I said and Alex smiled and nodded. I managed to calm him down after half an hour and a couple of nurses asking if we was okay.
I was sat on the chair next to Alex. He had his head rested on my shoulder and had hold of my hand and I was running my thumb over his knuckles. Skys doctor was walking towards us. Alex sat up but didn't let go of my hand. "Is she okay?" I asked. "At the moment she is, but she has compactions which made it harder for us to try and bring her back to being stable." He said. I felt Alex hold my hand tighter. "The medication we had her on isn't working but we're trying something else and hoping that will make her better again." He said. "So what going to happen now?" I asked. "Right now she is in intensive care and she's being monitored closely to see if anything has changed." The doctor said. "Are you saying she might not make it through the night?" Alex asked quietly. "Right now we simply can't say. But if she's like her daddy then she'll fight on through this." He said and looked at Alexs arms since he was only wearing a T-shirt. Alex moved his arm closer to his chest. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." He said quietly. Alex smiled. "Why don't you two go home and see your other children and have some sleep. You both look bushed. Come back in the morning when you both don't look like the living dead." He smiled. I smiled as well. "What about Sky?" Alex asked quietly. "I have the best nurses on the children ward keeping an eye on her. If anything happens then I will phone you up. I guess you have the school run to do so I'll give you an update in the morning when you get up if you like to tell you how Skylar is doing." He said. I looked at Alex on this one because I felt this was for more of his benefit than mine and Alex nodded. "What time would you like me to phone you?" He asked. "Our 4 year old gets up at 6 and by the the time we get the rest up it'll be round 7 so 7 30?" Alex said. The doctor smiled. "I'll speak to you then Sir. Have a good night." He said and got up and walked off. "Come on let's go home and have a shower and sleep in a proper bed and not on each other." I said and got up and Alex got up as well.
By the time we got home it was late. Everyone was still up part from Rowan. "Where's Riley?" Alex asked. "Reading Rowan a story and putting him to bed." Kit said. I could tell Alex felt lost without Sky. I guess in the back of his mind he has all the kids running through his head and making sure their home or in bed if not then he's finding out where they were. "Go and sit down and I'll make you a decent cuppa." I said and Alex smiled as he was moaning about how bad hospital tea was and I don't blame him the coffee wasn't much better. Alex walked over to me and pulled me into and hug and kissed me. "Thank you Jack." He said quietly. "What for?" I asked confused. "For putting up with me in the hospital. Being there and helping me calm down." He said. "It's what I'm here for and I'm not going anywhere else but to the hospital and here." I said and kissed him. "Go and sit with everyone and I'll be there in a second." I said and Alex nodded and walked to the sitting room and sat with everyone. I made his tea and grabbed myself a beer and walked into the sitting room and sat next to Kit since Riley was still upstairs with Rowan. I put Alex's tea on the table and he looked at me and smiled since he was at next to Aidan who was cuddled into his side. "How's Sky?" Tyler asked. I looked at Alex he was looking down so it meant I had to say not that I don't mind. "At the moment it's touch and go." I said quietly. "What do you mean by that?" Riley asked as he walked into the room. "Sky stopped breathing and the doctors where lucky that she didn't die." Alex said quietly and sniffed. "But she's going to be okay?" Riley asked. "I dunno Ri." Alex said quietly and got up and went upstairs. "Was it something I said?" Riley asked and looked at me. "No Ri, he's just finding it hard to cope with this. Actually he's not coping with it at all, he's blaming himself for it." I said. "But its not his fault." Seth said. "In his mind it is." I said and got up. "I'm gonna have a early night and so do you Aidan. Your going to school and ypou are staying there all day. I don't want you walking out of school nor do I want the school to phone me either and its the same for you Riley, Tyler and Kit." I said. "Yes Sir." They all chuckled. "See you later guys." I said and walked upstairs.
I got to my room and I could hear Alex talking to himself, more like swearing to himself. I walked to the bathroom and saw Alex cleaning the sink up and I looked at his arm and saw it covered in blood. "Babe what happened?" I asked and walked over to him and pulled his arm under the water and looked at him. "I've fucked up." He sobbed. I got a towel and wrapped it tightly round his arm. "Babe you haven't fucked up." I said quietly and wiped the tears away from his face. "I have because I've just broke being clean for a month." He sniffed. "Lex you know relapse is gonna happen, its all part of getting better." I said and pulled him into a hug and hugged him tightly. "I'm sorry Jack." Alex sobbed into my chest. "It's fine, I forgive you." I said and kissed the top of his head. "Let's have a shower, clean you up and go bed." I said and Alex nodded and moved back and looked at the towel which was red round where the cuts was. I made him look at me. "Tomorrow is another day and you can start again." I said quietly and kissed him and went over to the shower and turned it on and took my clothes off until I was just in my pants. I looked at Alex and she was still in his clothes. "Want a hand?" I asked and he nodded and walked towards me. I took the towel of his arm and pulled his top off and then pulled his trousers and pants down together. He moved and kissed me and pulled my pants off.
Once we had a shower and I cleaned and put a bandage on Alex's arm we both crawled into bed. We was in the middle of a movie when our door creaked open. Alex looked to see who it was. "Hey little man, what's the matter?" Alex said and got out of bed and picked Rowan up since he has picked up the little man nickname we gave the boys as they grew up. "I had a nightmare and Aidan told me to piss off and see you." He said. Alex walked back over to the bed and put Rowan between us and pulled the covers over them. "Well me and da are going to keep them nasty monsters away because no one messes with us." Alex said and kissed Rowans cheek. "Is it because you beat them up?" Rowan asked and cuddled into Alex's chest. "Yeah, no one messes with our family." I said. Rowan smiled and yawned. "Go to sleep, I promise them monsters won't return and if they do tell them that me and da will kick their butts until they go away." Alex said and kissed the back of his head. Rowan nodded and got comfy and fell asleep. I looked at Alex who gave me a small smile and then yawned. "Go to sleep, I have my phone on loud so we'll hear it if it goes off." I said quietly. Alex reached his hand out and I linked my little finger with his and he slowly fell asleep. It took me another 2 hours until I fell asleep.
