Jet Pack Blues

Jacks POV

"I'm really worried Jack." Alex said as we waited in the hospital.
"she'll be fine. If she's like you then she is a fighter." i said and kissed the side of his head.
I looked at Sky and she was grizzling loudly and when Alex offered her a bottle she refused which isn't like her as she loved her bottle.
"this isn't her Jack, you know that it isn't because she loves her bottle." Alex said looking really worried as he moved a bit of hair from her face.
I looked at her arm and the bruise rash looking thing had spread up her arm.
"Lex get up and follow me." i said and got up
Alex followed me and we found a nurse.
"my daughter has a rash and its spread up her arm." i said.
"it could be just some skin condition why don't you sit down and wait for someone too see you." She said.
"i am not going to fucking sit down. My daughter is ill and you don't even give a fucking shit!" Alex said loudly.
"Alex calm down." i said.
"no! Our daughter could be fucking dying and I am not sitting in that fucking waiting room watching her get more ill!" he snapped.
I just let it slide since he was right.
The nurse looked at us.
"Please, I don't want to lose my baby." Alex said sounding like he was going to cry.
"okay, tell me what's been going on." she said and took us to a room.
"she woke up screaming which isn't like her as she loves her sleep and goes through the night without us hearing a peep from her. I went to see what was up and she was burning up really badly but her hands and feet was cold so I took her clothes off just leaving her in her nappy. She's been more grizzling than normal and she isn't really a grizzling baby, she only grizzles when she's tired. And she has this rash and its been spreading up her arm." Alex explained.
"can I take a look?" thw nurse asked.
Alex nodded and but Sky on the bed and she just started screaming the place down.
"Hey you, this nice lady is gonna make you better." i said and offered Sky my little finger which she took but was still screaming the place down.
"maybe if you hold her she'll calm down a little." the nurse smiled.
I looked at Alex and he looked like a nervous wreck.
I sat on the bed and held sky and she stopped screaming and just grizzled loudly.
"you'll be okay." i said quietly and kissed the top off her head.
The nurse looked up at me.
"I'm just gonna go and find a doctor." the nurse said and walked out the room.

"Its bad isn't it." Alex said looking at Me
his hands was shaking badly.
"i dunno Lex. But we have to stay strong so Sky okay. I don't need you passing out on me. Not now I can't deal with Sky and you on my own." i said.
"I'm trying but it isn't easy, we could be losing her from something we dint know about. I can't cope losing her Jack. We nearly lost her when she was born and I don't think I can put myself through it." he sniffed.
"we're not gonna lose her. She beat thw odds what the doctor gave her and she can do it again." i said.
Alex walked over and sat on the bed and rested his head on my shoulder.
"She's going to be okay Lex." i said quietly and kissed the side of his head.
"You promise?" he asked quietly.
"i will do everything in my prower to make her better." i said.
Alex sniffed and looked at Sky and she was asleep.

The doctor came in.
"Hello,I'm doctor Carlile and im here too look at this little lady." he smiled.
He webt over and looked at her.
"why didnt you come and get me sooner?" he asked the nurse and looked at her.
"i thought it was just a rash." she said.
He looked at us.
"your daughter need to be admitted and needs to start treatment straight away." he said.
"Whats wrong with her?" Alex asked.
"she has meningitis." he said.
"what?" i asked.
"your daughter is seriously ill and she needs treatment to make her better and give her a chance to fight this." he said.
"is she going to die?" Alex asked quietly.
"Babe don't think like that." i said.
"what choice do I have she could be dying!" Alex said.
"sir, there is a slim chance she could die. She is in thw right place now to get better." the doctor said.
"i need some air." Alex said and walked out the room.
"I'm sorry about him, he doesnt like our kids being ill." i said quietly.
"i understand sir. But you give her a chance to get through this we need to get her the medication she needs." he said.
I nodded and got up and followed him to the children's ward.

I went looking for Alex and found him sat on the floor staring into space.
"You must be freezing." I said and took my jacket off and put it over his shoulders.
"is it bad?" he asked quietly.
I sighed and sat next to him.
"she has the worse one they can get." i said quietly.
"is it my fault?" he sniffed.
"no, no it isn't your fault it's just one of them horrible things which happens." i said and kissed the top of his head.
"swear this family is cursed or something." Alex said quietly.
"we're just unlucky that's all." i said.
Alex sighed.
"Come on, Sky could really do with her dad right now." i said and got up and helped Alex up.

We walked quietly to where Sky was.
I looked through thw bag I packed and pulled out sky's teddy she loved to bits abd gave it to Alex abd he hugged it tightly.
"i cant lose my little girl Jack." he whispered and put his hand in the cot and sky got hold of his little finger.
"You won't lose her okay. She'll fight this like with everything she does." i said and hugged him from behind and kissed his cheek.
"will you be okay while I go home and tell everyone what is happening and get Aid to school." i said.
"I'll be fine." he said quietly.
"You sure because I can always stay here." i said.
Alex nodded and turned round and looked at me.
"I'll be fine. I promise." he smiled.
"if anything changes let me know." i said and kissed him.
"i will." he whispered.
"see you in a bit." i said and kissed him Again and walked out the room.

I got home and everyone was up.
"Where's dad and Sky?" Riley asked.
"at the hospital." i said abd picked rowan up and hugged him
"why?" Seth asked.
"Sky has meningitis." i said quietly and looked down.
"what?" Aidan said.
"You heard." i said quietly.
"Fuck school I'm going to see dad and Sky." Aidan said.
"Aidan please, go to school. Dad doesn't need anything else to worry over." i said.
"But he needs his family." she said.
"I'll be there and I'll give you all updates. But it's just better If it just me and dad." i said.
"But we want to see Sky." Seth said.
"later, just not now." i said and gave rowan a drink.
"I'll go to school only if I can see Sky after." Aidan said.
"fine. Get your stuff we need to go." i said and kissed Rowans cheek a d put him down and took Aidan to school.
