Why Don't We Just Runaway?

Chapter Five - Tales That Must Be Retold

I watched as he danced his way towards me. His smile growing more and more visible the closer he got. His thin black eyebrows were furrowed together, a glass was in his hand.
"Hey." His thick Californian accent shouted above the music.
Our eyes met and I couldn't help but smile back at him.
"Hey Josh!" I replied, not feeling quite so cheery.
Erin left my side and barged passed Josh's musuclar body. He watched the small girl as she made her way towards the dance floor.
"What's her problem?" He asked, his voice sounding thicker with every drop of alcohol he downed.
I looked at him, giving him an 'Are you serious?' stare and then shrugged it off.
"Probably you."
He looked confused.
"You cheated on her, you know that sort of thing effects people."

His mouth dropped open and I scoffed.
"I didn't mean to." He remarked.
I laughed. "You didn't mean for your cock to fall into that girl's vagina?"
With a shake of his head, he turned away.
"You deserve such a fucking hit." He spoke through gritted teeth.
I watched him begin to shake with anger. His face was no longer soft, calm, and welcoming. It was full of rage.
His fist was clenched.
"Oh shit." I thought to myself.

Josh was generally calm, relaxed and cool. He smoked weed, and took the ocasional shot of ecstasy. Seeing him angry was a first for myself, but not for Erin who was hiding across the dance floor. Watching as he became more and more worked up. Angry, that I'd brought the topic of him cheating up.
He raised his hand and I stumbled back over. The last thing I had expected was him to hit me. I felt fearful, and memories flooded back to me.

"Kira Annabell Lane Jackson!" My Dad called me.
I poked my head out from my bedroom, unsure of whether I would be returning any time soon. He was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs; of course, just like always.
"Yes, Dad?" Fifteen year old me called.
He looked at me with disappointed eyes. I couldn't recall ever seeing him look like this.
"Come down here." He demanded.
Slowly, carefully, and with an overwhelming feeling of fear, I approached my father. His eyes were ice cold, and his black hair was sticking to his damp forehead.
"What is this?" He grabbed hold of my shirt. "Are you a slut?" He asked.
The top button of my shirt was undone. Of course he would pick that out.
"No, Dad, I promise."I fearfully responded.

My Dad backed up slightly, and the breath I had been holding exhaled from my bruised and battered body.
"Whore." He suddenly gasped, and that was when I felt the impact.
I keeled over in pain. The taste of blood visible in my mouth. I couldn't breathe for every gasp I inhaled brought a stronger, newer pain.

"Back the fuck off, bro!" I heard an unfamiliar yet recognizable voice call.
I was snapped back to reality. The pain in my gut still there. I had thought that it was only the flashback that was causing it, but as I became reaware of my surroundings, it became clear that Josh had hit me.
"Pretty boy comes to the rescue." Josh remarked, stepping away from my curled up body.
Erin was stood behind me, holding me up and keeping tight grip of my hair while I spewed onto the floor.
She wasn't paying much attention to the fight that had broke out between my saviour and Josh, but I certainly was.
"Er, look." I tried to point at my saviour, but didn't quite manage it before I had to spew some more.

Everything calmed down pretty quickly, and I was soon feeling well enough to stand on my own two feet.
Erin had left to get a cleaner to mop the mess on the floor, leaving me alone with the man who had rescued me from another beating.
His soft brown eyes were more welcoming than Josh's, and I found myself lost in them as he spoke.
"Are you okay?" His accent was familiar.
His hair was combed back over, and the blonde streak in it was fascinating.
"I will be." I tried to sound strong, but all I succeeded in was sounding weak.
"I knew we'd meet again, though." He winked.
I laughed half heartedly, unrecognizing him.

When Erin came back, I watched as her mouth dropped open and she almost forgot that she was holding a glass of water for me.
"Jack mother fucking Barakat, alas we meet again." She laughed, and passed me the water.
"Hey!" He replied.

Erin freaked out more than an average person should. She was almost in tears when he asked what her name is and said that he loved her name; But she was pretty much dead when he asked if he could sit at our tables while he waited for his friends. His friends, I'm guessing, were Alex, Zack and Rian.

She wiped her eyes frantically, expecting that she was dreaming. But she wasn't.
Jack sat on his phone, occasionally looking up from he LCD screen on his iPhone 6. He never failed to smile when he did. Which of course, helped me smile.
"So if you're not 21, how old are you?" He asked.
His hair was moussed, and looked silky soft despite the amount of hair spray that was likely used. His brown eyes made me feel something I hadn't felt in a while - want. I wanted him.
"I'll be nineteen in a month." I told him.
His mouth dropped open, a smile played teasingly on his lips.
"I'm eighteen." Erin piped up.
His eyes glanced at her but he couldn't keep them off of me for long. I wondered what he was thinking.
My birthday was in middle of December which caused me to be older than most of my classmates at school.
"How old are you?" I asked, unsure of his age.
"That's my friends!" He yelled, unexpectedly.

He was pointing towards four lanky guys, two of which I recognized from earlier in the night, and a muscular hunk.
One of them had faded blue hair, with his roots showing. He was looking all around the club for Jack, I guessed.
When he finally spotted the taller skunk haired male, he slowly darted his way passed the many people between us and them.
"Hey, Cracker Jack, hey..." His accent was mixed, and I couldn't place it.
"This is Kira with an I and no E, and her friend Erin." Jack introduced us.

A pain shot through my head, causing me to clutch the side of it. A buzzing sound echoed throughout my ears and my eyesight went blurry.
"I don't feel so well." I mumbled before crashing to the ground.
