The Essex Affect

English class just finished, and I was taking the new kid to our next class of the day. Which just so happened to be my favorite class, music. This Alex kid seemed pretty cool, and his hair was awesome. Not many people around here dye their hair crazy colors, hell, me putting the little blonde patch in my hair seemed to confuse everyone. But, they still loved me because I was being myself. From the moment I met Alex in the office, I could tell he had a little bit of a belly showing, not like fat, but kinda like a baby bump. I wasn’t going to say anything, I was going to let him tell me on his own time. But, the least I can do right now is make sure he settles in fine, and no one gives him a hard time.

We entered the music room, and I didn’t even notice the bell rang already, and that everyone was already in their seats. “Sorry we’re late Mr. Biersack. I was making sure Alex got here okay.” I said as I walked more into the room and sat in the front.

“You are perfectly fine, Jack.” Mr. Biersack said, he then turned to Alex who was just standing there awkwardly, and smiled. “Do you want me to call you Alex? Or do you want me to use Alexander?”

“Alex is fine.” The teal haired boy replied.

“Alright. Everyone, I want you to meet our new student. He is from the wonderful land know as England. But, I’m sure you guys can tell by his voice already.” Mr. Biersack chuckled a bit. “Anyways, Alex, today we are working with partners, and it seems that you already know Jack. Would you mind working with him? He can help you get caught up with everything. Oh, and do you play anything? Sing maybe?”

“I play guitar and I sing.” He said with a small smile as I motioned him over to sit next to me. He gladly did as I asked him with my hands and took the only remaining seat in the room.

“Oh good! Jack here, plays guitar, but when he sings he sounds like a dying whale.” Mr. Biersack said, making the whole class laugh. Alex looked over at me with a questioning face.

“He’s not lying. You don’t want to hear me sing.” I chuckled. Which caused him to let out one of his own.

“Alright, now that everyone has a partner, you are free to do as you please.” Our teacher said as he released us to do our work. I turned to Alex and smiled at him.

“So, basically this project we have to do is write a song and perform it for the class. Nothing too fancy, but if you are scared of being up in front of people. Tell me now.” I let out another small laugh.

“I’ll be fine. I promise. Sounds like it will be a fun project to work on. How long do we have?”

“We basically have three days including today. So if you are okay with working outside of school, then we really need to do that.”

“That’s fine. We can go to my house after school is over? If that’s okay with you.”

“Perfect! I drove my car today so I can give you a lift back to your place if you didn’t drive.”

“Sounds like a plan.” He replied as we both let out small laughs. I could tell already that Alex and I were meant to be great friends.
