Barakat, Jack Barakat

“What if they don’t like me?”
“Well now you’re being ridiculous” Jack laughed, taking one hand off the wheel, to take Amy’s hand in his own, pulling it to his mouth and kissing it softly.
The pair were on their way to Jack’s parents house. They would be spending most of the evening there, Jack’s parents making them some food.
“My brother and sister are visiting” he smiled at her. Amy felt even more nervous now. Her stomach was in knots, she felt like she could throw up at any minute.
“Oh” she said, looking ahead out onto the road.
“Amy, relax. They’re fine. You’ll be fine. May will be over the moon to see you” he grinned.
“I’ve never really brought a girl home before. Well, a girl I know my family will like” he laughed.
“May probably won’t give you back” he chuckled. Amy laughed, feeling slightly at ease.
“What if I give off a bad first impression? What if I fall through the door?” Jack just laughed.
“Just be yourself, they’ll love you. Be the girl I fell in love with” he squeezed her hand reassuringly. Amy smiled, relaxing into her seat.
“And if you do fall through the door, I’ll pretend to fall as well” he laughed. Amy smacked his arm lightly.

“Mom? Dad? We’re here” Jack called through the house as they stepped through the door.
“Jack? Is that you?” an older woman appeared from the kitchen.
“Oh Jack, don’t you look so handsome” she pulled him into a hug. Amy stood behind the pair giggling to herself.
“And who is this gorgeous thing?” Jack’s mom had now turned her attention to Amy.
“Mom, this is Amy, my girlfriend” he smiled.
“Amy, this is my mom” Amy put her hand out to shake her hand.
“Oh dear, no need to be so formal, come here” she smiled pulling her into a hug. Amy relaxed immediately, not feeling so tense anymore.
“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, Mrs Barakat” Amy smiled.
“Oh please, call me Joyce” she smiled.
“Oh you must meet Jack’s father! Bassam? Jack is here with his wonderful girlfriend!” she called. He appeared moments later.
“Jack, you need a shave” he laughed at his son.
“And what is that?” he pointed at the red in his hair.
“I wanted a change” Jack shrugged.
“You must be Amy, Jack’s girlfriend” he smiled, Amy shaking his hand.
“He’s told us so much about you” Amy smiled.
“All good things I hope” she laughed.
“We’ll carry on with dinner. Jack, why don’t you take her to meet May? She’s upstairs”
“On it” Jack smiled, grabbing hold of Amy’s hand and pulling her towards the stairs.
“Jack, is that you?” May called from one of the rooms.
“How did you know it was me?” he asked pouting as he walked into the room.
“I could hear your big ass feet coming up the stairs” she laughed.
“Anyway, May, this is Amy” he smiled, puling her into the room.
“Amy, this is my sister, May”
“Jack, I know you told me she was pretty, but you didn’t tell me she was way out of your league” she laughed, pushing Jack to the side to greet Amy. She pulled Amy into a hug.
“Listen, I don’t know what he’s got over you, but if he’s blackmailing you to stay with him, then nod twice, I can help you” Amy just laughed.
“Hey!” Jack was offended.
“I’ll have you know that she loves me” Jack said, holding his head up high.
“You do? That thing?” she motioned towards Jack.
“Unfortunately” Amy laughed, shaking her head at the pair.
“I thought you liked me” he pouted. Amy walked over to him, putting her arm around his waist.
“Shush you. You know I do” she grinned. Jack leaned down to kiss her.
“Ugh, I’m leaving” May laughed.
“Have fun you two” she smiled before walking out.
“Well we may as well listen to her” Jack wiggled his eyebrows, motioning towards the spare bed in the room. Amy smacked his arm.
“No Jack” she laughed.
“Aw come on” he whined, following her out of the room.

“Well I’ve ate too much” Jack sighed as he finished his food.
“You always do” Amy laughed, causing everyone at the table to laugh along with her.
“Oh he always been like that” Joe, his brother joined in.
“Hey! What is this? Personally victimise Jack day?” he laughed. Amy placed a hand on his thigh and smiled at him.
“Well I think it’s time we get going. It’s getting late” Jack said, looking at the time.
“I’ll walk you out” May smiled, standing with the pair.
“It was so lovely to meet you all” Amy smiled.
“Please don’t be a stranger. Come by anytime” Joyce smiled at her.
“Thank you”
“Bye mom, dad, Joe” Jack nodded towards them.
“Well, she’s a keeper” May nodded towards Amy.
“I know” he smiled.
“You keep hold of her. Don’t let her go”
“Oh I don’t plan on that” Jack smiled, hugging his sister one last time.
May stood at the door and waved the pair of as they drove away.

“I’m heading up to bed, you coming?” Jack asked.
“No, I’m not tired yet, I’m gonna sit down here for a bit” she smiled.
“Okay, goodnight” he smiled, leaning down to kiss her before walking up the stairs.
As soon as she heard the bedroom door close, she pulled out her phone.
“Hello?”
“Hey mom”
“Oh Amy! You haven’t called in a while! I was beginning to worry, is everything okay?”
“Yeah, sorry about that. I’ve been busy. Sorry to call so late, I just want to ask you something”
“Ask away”
“Okay, so I have this boyfriend, Jack, who I’ve been seeing for a while”
“Is this that band guy Holly keeps talking about?” she cut her off.
“Yes, mom” she laughed.
“I just want to know if you’d be okay with me bringing him sometime to meet you guys?”
“Oh Amy, of course! Your father will be thrilled”
“Okay, great! We’ll sort out a date at another time. I’ll let you get to bed as it’s late. I’ll speak to you another time, mom”
“Okay Amy, just call anytime. It was so good to hear from you. Love you”
“Love you too mom”
Amy was thrilled. She was looking forward to introducing Jack to her family.
She lay down on the couch to continue watching whatever movie was playing, eventually falling asleep.
