Red Band Society

Chapter Three

Jack dragged himself and I into the elevator that was, thankfully empty. Jack pressed the button that read BALCONY in white, capital letters. I kept myself huddled in the corner of the elevator which was showcasing my shyness to the max. I had just met this dude not even two minutes ago, and he was already showing me his favorite hang out. Did I look that friendly, or was he really desperate for friends?

Jack noticed me hiding, and he scoffed. "Hey, I won't bite! Come on over here, Alex!" God, his friendliness was enough to make me sick; it was like an overly sweet piece of candy that rots your teeth that minute it comes in contact with them. So I wouldn't upset him, I slithered over to him, but I made sure there was enough space between us to not trigger my claustrophobia. The door of the elevator shut, and we began to go upwards. The motions of going upwards began to affect my empty stomach. My gut began to cramp, and my body began to feel extremely clammy. My breathing picked up a bit, and I clutched my stomach. Jack noticed my distress and whispered, "Alex, you okay?" I tried to speak through my mouth's process of salivating.

"Erm, yeah. I'm just fine. My stomach just doesn't react well to the elevator going -- erm -- up."

"Do you need me to stop the elevator? I can stop, so you can maybe go, I don't know, puke?"

"N-No! I'll be --" Before I could say anything more, my stomach was screaming out me to let it release the bile that was begging to be let out. I had to get out of this elevator now. "I mean, yes. Stop it right now, please!" I begged in a shout. Jack nodded quickly, and he took his fist and bashed it into the Emergency stop button. The elevator took a drastic halt on the 8th floor, and the doors opened to reveal what would be the Teen Pregnancy wing. I flew out of the elevator and before I could make it to a bathroom, my mouth spurted bile everywhere.

The yolk like substance covered the walls and floor, and the rotten smell dominated the smell of Pine Sol. Jack stood in horror behind me, frowning at me state. And, since Jack pressed the Emergency stop button on the elevator, it alerted the nurses/doctors downstairs that there was an emergency. As a result, I heard the footsteps of a running nurse that was coming to my aid. She was a blonde girl that was wearing white scrubs. She knelt down to me and asked, "What is wrong, dear? What happened?" I couldn't answer, for more bile flew from my throat and onto her blue, plastic-bag-like-shoes. So, instead, Jack stepped up to the plate to answer.

"He said he felt really sick when we were going up the elevator. So, I stopped it before he threw up in the elevator." The nurse nodded at Jack's explanation, and she turned her attention back to me. I felt myself finally feel better again, and I sat up slowly. A thick coat of saliva and little droplets of bile skirted my lips. The nurse frowned at me.

"Hun, what's your name, and who is your nurse?"

"My name is Alex Gaskarth, and, uh, my nurse is Nurse Tay."

"Alright, well, I need to take you back to your room, and I'll need to let Nurse Tay know what happened here, okay? Can you show me to your room?"

"But, I was going to go to the balcony with him," I turned to point at Jack, "that kid Jack."

"I'm sorry," the nurse sighed, "but you got sick, and it is in my guidelines to take you back to your room and alert your nurse. Nurse Tay would give you the go ahead if you can go with Jack to the balcony or if she wants you to stay in your room and rest. My apologies, Alex." I huffed out, feeling defeated. I stood up and turned to Jack.

"I'll talk to you later, okay? I'm really sorry."

"Don't apologize, Alex," Jack gave me a weak smile, "things happen. Unexpectedly, if I might add. Why do you think we're here in the first place?" I couldn't help but smirk; clever motherfucker, you, Jack.

"What did I tell you when I gave you your lunch, Alex?" Nurse Tay asked me with a serious expression. I forgot to realize that bile meant an empty stomach, and when Nurse Tay found out I puked up bile instead of hunks of food, I knew I was in deep shit. I betrayed her on my first fucking day of being here. Good impression making, Alex. I looked down at my fidgeting hands when she asked me her question. I didn't want to look her in the eyes. "Well? Are you going to answer me, Alex?" I let out a staggered breath.

"You said that if I didn't eat my food, I would have to be aided from now on when I eat meals."

"And what did you do?"

"I didn't eat my food." My words came out like boulders; the words were so hard to allow out. Nurse Tay let out a sigh and crossed her arms.

"Where did you hide it, Alex?" I looked up with puppy dogs eyes. She was staring at me with a cocked brow. I stood up slowly and hesitantly made my way over to the window. I pointed out the window, and Taylor looked out of it. She gasped when she saw my food splattered all over the nature below. "You threw it out the window? Are you serious, Alex?" The more she talked, the more I felt stupid. I just replied with a nod. Nurse Tay shook her head and pulled me over to the bed. She threw me down and pulled out a package of Graham crackers. She put them into my face. "Take 'em, now, Alex." she ordered.

I took the package from her hands and asked, "W-What are these for?"

"I'm going to stand here and watch you eat those crackers."

"N-Now?"

"Now, Alex. Let's go." The pressure was thick; you could cut it with a knife. I opened up the package, and the smell of cinnamon sugar filled the air. I looked at the back of the package and frowned at the Nutritional facts.

"B-But, there are 100 calories in these --"

"Eat. Them. Now. Alex." I instantly collected myself and began to pick a cracker out of the foil wrapping. I put the cracker up to my lips, and I began to tremble. Nurse Tay's eyes were lasers on my face as she watched me with the cracker. I counted down in my head, and I was wishing that this didn't need to happen. Once I got to zero, I bit down onto the cracker. The minute the substance touched my tongue, my body went into an attack. My trembling hands dropped the the package of crackers, and I spit up the cracker. Nurse Tay looked at me in horror. "Alex? Alex, buddy, are you okay?"

I lost all the ability to breathe. The room was going blurry, and all I could hear was waves crashing in my ears. Before I went out into the blackness, I slid from the bed, crashed the ground, and heard Nurse Tay shout, "Alex!"

@Candy_Monster

I was going to do one, but I wasn't really sure what to put in it and thought it was kinda pointless. But, thank you for the suggestion ❤

@ApathyforSympathy

for some reeason, I saw Alex's suicide almost like romeo and juliet. Idk. But, im super glad you enjoyed the fic (:

First, you're not the worst author in the world.
Second, as I saw that it was the last chapter my mind went "there he goes".
Third, I don't know why everybody thinks that if the love of your life dies killing yourself is a good option because, according to Dante, you're going to Hell so it's pointless.
Finally, I loved this fic and I cried even though I expected all of this to happen.

You should do an epilogue
