What Can I Say

You got what you wanted now didn't you

Today was the day of our high school graduation except I would not be attending. I had been playing it off like I was going to but with permission from faculty I would not be walking due to a job opportunity. I did get my diploma but it was at home with my mom who was bummed that I wasn't going to walk but understood the job opportunity. My phone was turned off because I was waiting to hear my tunnel be called. I had called my family after going through security but after that I turned it off because I didn't want the guys to call me.

I sighed and put the bookmark in the book I was reading. I stretched my legs out and pulled Alex's hoodie closer to my body. I looked out at the planes that were lined up outside. This was a nice airport, I just wasn't sure that I wanted to do this. I mean, the job was a once in a life time opportunity but, I was leaving everyone that I had ever known back here. It almost seemed worth it though. It was now that I was running from everything but it didn't seem that bad.

"I'm going to have so many messages when I turn my phone back on," I muttered to myself.

I threw my backpack on my back and walked around the airport looking for food. I pulled my book close to my chest as I walked around the winding corridors. I made sure that I was going to stay close to the loading gate. I walked into a store that had some of everything and just walked around it. There wasn't a lot to see but I did see a magazine. They guys were on the cover of it and I felt compelled to read it. I searched for the page with the interview and finally found it. It wasn't the newest but it was only a few months old.

I held back a cry because I knew that I was going to miss them. They looked so happy though and to say I was going to be unhappy with what I would be doing would be a lie. I was going to be a recording assistant and a studio guitarist and drummer. I wouldn't start work until next week but I wanted to settle down some and learn to adapt to a new place.

"Excuse me," a guy said

"Huh, yes" I said turning around quickly.

"I don't want to sound weird but I absolutely love your sleeves."

I looked at my arms that were covered with tattoos that would occasionally slip my mind. I smiled down and them and turned the to show more of them to the man.

"Thanks, one of my friend tattoos and I let them do most of mine. I have his number if you want it," I smiled.

"That'd be lovely actually, especially if I got to do that with a beautiful girl like you," he openly flirted.

"Oh well, his business card is in my bag, I can get it out for you now."

"Or, you could come with me and get coffee and give it to me at some point during that."

I smiled and nodded my head at the man. I was going to call him a man because he was older than me but he really didn't look that much older, three years at most. I followed him to the Starbucks that was there and just got a hot chocolate while he ordered some coffee I'd never heard of. He paid for both, despite me trying to convince him to let me pay for my own. He carried him to the table and I slid the card across the table. He laughed as he put it in his wallet.

"If you don't mind me asking, where are you going? Most pretty girls don't travel alone," he stated.

"I'm going to LA for a job, where are you going," I asked.

"Visiting family in Seattle. How old are you?"

"Eighteen, today is the day I graduate high school but I'm here instead of walking. How about you?"

"Nineteen. Can I get your number?"

I laughed as I took his phone to put my number into. I mean, what's the worst that can happen with him having my number? I hand him his phone back and he looks at it to get my name.

"Really Shay, you give me your number before your name," he laughed.

"You never asked for that, what's you name," I asked.

"My name is Mark."

"Well Mark, you can text me now and I'll respond to your text when I get to LA and turn my phone on."

"Why isn't it on now?"

"My ex and his friends. They're going to be blowing up my phone asking where I am."

He smiled at me and offered me a hand up. I took it because that was the polite thing. I grabbed my back and threw it on my back. I walked with him back to the waiting area near my terminal. He sat next to me for a while because his wasn't too far and my flight was leaving first. He was a really nice guy, I was glad he decided to say something because I now had someone to pass the time with.

"Flight R-237 to LAX is boarding now," boomed over the loud speaker.

I stood up and gave Mark a hug before I walked to go stand in the line to wait to board my flight. I was about to run away like I'd always done.

"Wait Shay," Mark said, "can I see you again?"

"Just text me idiot, of course you can," I smiled at the cute boy.

I walked into the short line and scanned my ticket. I walked into the thin tube and onto the plane. I shuffled to my seat and threw the bag on the floor in my foot room because I would rather have a little amount of leg room than have to struggle with everyone else on putting stuff in the overhead compartments. As they went through the safety procedures and everything I zoned out entirely. Once the plane took off I realized one thing. I was free to live my own life and not have to worry about any of those stupid boys. I was making my own future on my own now.

Notes

Okay, so I did the thing I absolutely hate when movies do and I'm splitting this into two parts because I fell that will be the best way to write this story (I promise the sequel won't be bad, in fact it may be better than the first part). THIS IS NOT THE END I PROMISE! I also just realized I have no idea how things in airports work as I was writing this because I don't fly.

This is my second update this week (same story sorry, writer's block on like everything) because there was no update last week. In the next few weeks I will finish So Far Away as well. Also, Sick Puppies just released their fifth studio album, Fury, and honestly, if you like rock check it out cause it's a pretty solid 10/10 (they're also a phenomenal live band).

Leave a comment and rate if you enjoy and see y'all in the sequel :)
