Can't Help Who I Fall For

Heard it Through the Grapevine

Soccer practice had just ended when I'd heard it. The locker room was crowded with guys from the soccer team as it was, but there were stragglers from the baseball and football practices who'd taken to chatting with their friends instead of just fucking leaving.

I couldn't really make out whose voice it was at first, or what they were even saying, but then I realized that they were getting significantly louder to overpower the laughter his words were getting.

I hadn't meant to eaves drop (I really just wanted to get the fuck out of there so that I could meet up with Gaskarth and Ramsay), but it was impossible not to when suddenly the near-shouted business started to echo off the walls and tile around me.

"He almost got in the bitch's pants!" the voice cried. "He said the cunt was fuckin' hard but then rejected him!"

I didn't care any more who they were talking about then from when I'd begun to pay attention to the person being mocked, but that didn't last much longer.

"Fuckin' Barakat's more of a pussy than Sykes thought he'd be! I'm gonna start takin' bets on them—how many of you sons of bitches think it'll be another month before he gets his way? How many of you think that he'll give up and let us go wild on him first? Come on, boys, don't be shy! There's enough for everyone to go around! Flint, you better start keepin' track of this shit!"

That momentarily stopped me. It didn't necessarily surprise me, seeing as how I'd heard the same spiel numerous times in the past, but at the same time... it did.

Alex had told me that things were different between Jack and Oli. He'd seemed so sure of himself. He was willing to get over his loss because he knew Jack was happy; that Oli was making him happy and had no bad intentions.

I trusted Alex (more than Jack did, that's for sure), and I figured that he would probably know better than anyone what Oli's intentions were, but something felt off. They wouldn't be stupid enough to make bets if they didn't know if it'd actually go anywhere, right?

I shook my head to clear my thoughts before hurriedly packing up my things to leave as quickly as possible. I knew I had to talk to someone about what I'd heard. It couldn't be Alex since I doubted that Jack would listen to him on top of the fact that Gaskarth'd probably get himself into even more trouble that he didn't need.

It couldn't be one of the other guys seeing as how they all could've cared less about what happened to Jack. They still didn't know what had really happened between them; they'd probably make bet with the rest of the douche bags.

I was at a loss up until—

"Dawson! Hey, dude, I really need to talk to you."
