I Miss Missing You

Six.

During the two week stay Caydee had at the hospital, the doctors agreed that it was best for Caydee that Alex was allowed to stay with her for extended hours. It was evident that she needed him to stay with her to keep her mental state stable. She was still on a suicide watch, even though Alex hardly left her bedside. Most of the time, he was actually in her bed with her. Caydee would lie against his side, with her head on his chest. The only time Alex left was after she had fallen asleep, usually around midnight. He slept at Jack's apartment for the two weeks that Caydee was in the hospital. He couldn't bear to go back to his. He sent Rian to get a few things, and he said it was a mess. So, being the great friends they were, him and Cassadee offered to clean up the bathroom and repaint its walls. Jack and Zack joined in, and had it finished shortly before Caydee was allowed to leave. She was home for a week before she left for an inpatient session in a mental health facility. It was actually partially her own choosing, with encouragement from Alex, Jack, Zack, Rian, and Cassadee. They gave her an ultimatum-- go to the impatient therapy, or be in a state of constant lockdown and watch for the rest of forever. She chose two weeks of inpatient. The evening before she was to leave, Alex took her to the spot they had first met. A year prior, Alex decided to go for a run through a park near his apartment. Once found a comfortable pace, he began to let his mind wander. Caydee decided to run that day as well, and was running towards him. Both were too caught up in their thoughts to notice the other, and they collided. Alex, being the heavier of the two, landed on top. Needless to say, they hit it off. Now, the couple was walking the trail, hand in hand. The sun was setting over the harbor, creating a beautiful, romantic backdrop. They walked by the bench that they had sat on and got to know each other that first afternoon.
"You remember this place?" Alex asked, stopping abruptly infront of the green park bench.
"How could I forget?" Caydee chuckled. "You practically tackled me right in this very spot."
"Well, to be honest, I wasn't sure if the impact of hitting the pavement caused you brain damage."
"Ha ha." She said, sarcastically, leading him over to the bench. They sat side by side in silence for a while, until Caydee broke the silence.
"Lex?" She whispered.
"Yeah?"
"You'll stay with me after I come home, right?"
"Of course!" He said, turning to face her, a look of shock on his face. "Why wouldn't I?"
"Well, you have an image to keep up and I don't know...why would you want to stay with someone who tried to kill herself?" She said quickly, fidgeting with the hems of the long sleeves she was wearing.
"Caydee, honestly, what kind of image would that give me, leaving a girl because she's a little broken? Besides, I'll miss you too much while you're gone to leave. Two weeks without any contact is going to drive me mad. You'll be lucky to get me away from you when you get back."
"I just don't get why you'd want to." Caydee whispered.
Alex took her hands and looked into her eyes. He began to sing, softly.
"Baby, you are my picket fence, I'd miss missing you now and then. Chlorine kissed summer skin, I'd miss missing you now and then. Sometimes before it gets better, the darkness gets bigger, the person you'd take a bullet for is behind the trigger. Oh, you're fading fast. I'd miss missing you now and then." He paused to wipe a tear from her cheek. "I'm making eyes at this husk, around your heart. I see through you when we're sitting in the dark. So give me your filth, and make it rough. Let me, let me trash your love. I will sing to you every day, if it'll take away the pain. Oh, you've hear that I got it, got it so bad, cause you are the best that I'll ever have." He stood up, pulling her with him and dancing with her in the middle of the path. As the song went on, he pulled her closer, until finally he whispered the last line with his fore head pressed to hers, holding both her hands. Alex lifted Caydee's chin and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. He then lifted her hands and kissed the still pink scars that lined the insides of her wrists.
Caydee stared at him for a second or so before she threw her arms around him and gave him the tightest hug she had ever given anyone. She let out a loud, shaky sob into the side of his neck.
"Promise me you'll never try to leave me again. I can't imagine a life without you, Caydee. I need you here." Alex said in tear stained whisper into her ear.
"I promise you, Alex."
