I Miss Missing You

Three.

"Take a seat, Alex." Dr. Stewarts gestured to one of the armchairs in his large office. Alex sat down, but did not relax. The two doctors sat in armchairs across from him, a coffee table separating the parties.
"Here we have Caydee's file." Dr. Wright placed a folder on the table and opened it. An emergancy room chart was tacked to one side, and various papers were on the other. Wright pulled a page from its binding and showed it to Alex. "Basically, this is the report that was filed by the police." Alex nodded and gestured for her to continue. She began to read. "911 operators recieved a call around noon today from her- or, your?- neighbor, who found her in the apartment after he came over to ask her to turn her music down. When she never came to the door, he became worried and entered upon finding the door to be unlocked. He found her lying on the floor of the bathroom in a pool of blood, unconscious. Empty pill bottles were also sitting on the counter. He checked for her pulse, and called emergancy services upon realizing she was still breathing. EMTs arrived and attempted to revive her, succeeding only briefly before she lost conciousness again. She was then transported to Baltimore General Hospital." She pulled another page out. "This is the report from the emergancy room when she was admitted. 'Caydee Parson, female, age 23, admitted August 4, 2013,12:52 PM. Suicide attempt by deep lacerations on both forearms and attempted overdose on prescription sleep aid medication. Patient was in a confused stupor, as if she were semi-asleep. Borderline nonresponsive. Course of treatment: induced vomiting, blood transfusion, rehydration. Patient is to be moved to psychiatric wing and is to be on constant suicide watch." Dr. Wright finished the report and set it on the table.
"Frankly, Mr. Gaskarth, Caydee is very ill. Once she recovers, it is highly recommended you have her follow up in a mental health facility." Dr. Stewarts said, looking him in the eyes.
Alex took a shaky breath. "This is a lot to take in. I knew she was depressed, but I never suspected she would try to kill herself." He whispered.
"Many people that are suicidal never tell anyone. Most of the time it does come as a shock." Dr. Wright said. "Changing gears, there are many options for her treatment. I, personally, would recommend the suicide rehabilitation impatient program at Baltimore Mental Health Facility. It is the best program in Maryland. And you would also get to visit her regularly, which will aid in her recovery. I'll provide you with more information once I talk with Caydee. I haven't had a chance to evaluate her yet, as she's been mostly nonresponsive, but once I do we will be able to make more of a decis-"
Alex cut her off. "Can I- can I call someone? I need some time to just...process this."
"Certainly. Just have the front desk page me when you're ready."
"Yeah." Alex stood up and exited the office. He speed-walked out of the psychiatric wing. Once he reach the lobby, he broke into a run. As he ran out of the building, tears began to flow freely. The singer sprinted across the street to a park and sat down on the closest bench. He pulled out his phone and dialed.
"Jack?" He asked once the guitarist picked up.
"Hey man, where are you? I've been trying to get you to play Madden on Xbox Live all day."
"I'm at the park across the street from the hospital."
Jack's tone flipped. "The hospital? Why are you there? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Well, not really. It's Caydee. She- she tried...she tried to kill herself."
"What? Oh my God. Is she...did she..." Jack trailed off.
"She's still here. But...I just...I really need you right now, Jack."
"I'll be there as soon as I can." He said, then hung up.

Twenty minutes later, Jack walked up to the bench Alex was sitting on. His hands jammed in his pockets, and sadness in his eyes. Alex stood up and Jack pulled him into a hug.
"It'll be okay, man. She'll be okay." Jack's voice was tight with sorrow, and Alex was crying again. The sound of other people in the park surrounded them, but Jack and Alex were in their own world.
"But what if she's not?" Alex whispered into his bestfriend's shoulder.
"She will be. We'll help her. I promise that she'll be okay." Jack said.
"Can we go up and see her?" Alex whispered weakly.
"Of course, man." Jack said, releasing Alex from his grasp and walked beside him back toward the hospital.
