Double Take.

Chapter One

Jack

"Thank you and goodnight," Matt said into his mic.

I smiled over at Brian and we all ran off the stage together. That's right, I'm the rhythm guitarist for Avenged Sevenfold. After that bad year we ended up getting really good and Hopeless Records had heard one of our local shows and ended up signing us. Let me fill you in on the past five years.

Zack and I were separated, he got back together with his ex girlfriend Stephanie and they were engaged. We had long separated our friend's with benefits behavior and we didn't talk much anymore. Things were a little awkward between the two of us and we drifted apart.

I hadn't talked about Alex but sometimes, when I got drunk or really tired, I would think about him, wonder what he was doing. I promised myself I would never go back to Baltimore but for some reason that's where my new home was located. I liked it though, I lived in a really nice apartment inside the city. I mean, right now I was living in a bus more than my home but you get the point.

I hadn't changed my habits much from how the were my second half of junior year in college. I was still sleeping around, I didn't care who it was anymore. Also, I was still getting drunk and occasionally stoned. It worked for me and my band mates didn't mind much. I could easily play all the songs and I helped write a lot of our music.

I ran my hand through my solid raven hair as we did shots the green room before we went out to meet fans. Both Syn and Matt had women under their arms, the girls were twins and dating the guys. The girls were super cool and I really liked them coming on tour with us.

"Come on Jacko," Jimmy said, running up from behind me.

Him and I raced to the door, him beating me despite my much longer gait. I guess he had more movement in his legs due to looser pants. The other three guys were quickly behind us as we got outside the building. The kids out side were very happy to see us and we were happy to see them.

That reminds me, none of us ever finished college. We all had one year left and we took the record deal over finishing our degrees. These fans made even our bad days worth it. I wouldn't change a single thing today. I was truly happy.

"Thank you guys so much, I love y'all," a fan said.

It was a southern show which were always kind of my favorite. Just the people we ran into while not playing were still super nice. We continued to sign autographs and take pictures with people. Once we were told to leave we walked back onto the bus. We continued to do shots.

Jimmy went to the bunks to sleep as well as Matt and his girlfriend. Syn was talking to his girl friend and Johnny and I were shot gunning beers. I bit into once to shorten the time and he just stared at me.

"I can't believe that you can't do that," he laughed.

"Yeah, it's something that I learned to do in college," I joked.

"Wasn't college great?"

"Except from junior year, yeah."

"Oh yeah, that guy. Have you talked to him recently?"

"It's just a memory."

I got up and walked to the bunk. One cursed name was about to fall from my lips with that conversation. One cursed phrased was about to leave my mouth. I did not love Alexander Gaskarth anymore.

Notes

First chapter to Double Take. Five years later and quite a bit has changed. Jack in a metal band? Sounds like loads of fun (by the way, nothing against Zacky, who's place Jack took in this story, he is completely awesome). Avenged Sevenfold is one of my favorite bands so I just had to add them in fully. Yes, I know Jimmy is in this, (RIP) he is just so amazing.

My college is doing a bunch of activities that freshman are required to go to which is pretty nice. My best friends going to be three and half hours I think. I'm just really nervous cause I don't know anyone on campus.

No problem. And long distance friendships are hard but they can work. My best friend is four hours away when I'm at college but we talk a lot and hang out when we can. If the first night at college feels lonely and you don't feel like socializing, get some junk food and your favorite movie and let yourself get used to being somewhere new with some things that are familiar.

You are awesome, thank you. My 'rents aren't gonna let me visit on weekends but worst comes to worst I'm practically in a national forest with the beauty of nature surrounding me no matter where I go. I've calmed down a lot but tomorrow's gonna be bad because I say final goodbye's to all my friends which will be real hard.

Four hours isn't so bad. Just far enough that you feel like you have some freedom but not too far for weekend visits. Making friends on campus will help you settle in, but your online friends got your back too :)
