The Fire in my Heart
Not Friends Just Yet
“Jack,” he answers. It’s been a couple of days since Devon had kicked him out.
“Why are you talking to him? I don’t want you to.”
“Devon, he’s really sorry about what happened. Ever single time I mention you he tells me that he’s sorry and to tell you. I forgive him. Why can’t you?”
“You wouldn’t understand.”
“Well, can you at least let him come over to hang with me? I don’t want to bother you because of your work.”
Devon chuckles. “So instead you’re going to bother someone else?”
“Of course. At least he’s not my brother that I love very much. Can he please come over? Please?”
“I guess. I did enjoy seeing you get your butt kicked at Soul Calibur.”
“Yay! I’m going to tell him now!”
Daren had texted Jack, and now Devon is kind of regretting it. Part of him wants to see him again, but the part that is has been buried inside him for some time now, and he doubts that anyone, especially someone like Jack, could bring that out of him. The short brunette plans on keeping it inside too. What could letting something like that out do to benefit him? As far as he’s concerned, he has enough on his plate and adding anything would just make everything that much harder. He doesn’t need anything more in his life. He’s far too busy trying to make his brother’s life the best that it can.
Devon sighs when he hears someone knocking on the door. He knows who it is, and he hasn’t had time to mentally prepare himself yet. If only he could make the man wait another thirty minutes outside, but even Devon isn’t going to stoop that low. He gets up from his seat on the couch and opens the door. Jack gives him a small wave before stepping inside.
“Daren,” Devon calls.
Daren comes running out his room and over to the two. “Hey Jack! Are you ready to play?”
“Of course!”
The younger and oldest goes over to the couch after picking the controllers off the floor and turning the game on. Devon sits down on the couch next to his brother and watches the battle unfold. So far, both of them are tied. Jack may have the advantage, but Daren has been doing a lot of practicing. The older brother really doesn’t want to see his younger brother win, so he “accidentally” pushes his shoulder.
“You can’t do that Devon! That’s cheating!”
“I didn’t mean to...”
“Trust me. As your little brother, I know all your little tricks.”
“Oh, well, you don’t know all of my tricks, but I’m not going to use any of them right now. I’m putting my trust into someone else now.”
“Are you actually putting your trust in me?” Jack questions.
“No, I’m putting my trust in Kilik. He’s badass.”
For some reason, Jack kind of wished that he had been talking about him, but he’s not entirely sure why. Devon is a really good looking guy, but Jack’s not the kind of person to try to get in a relationship. Besides, Devon has his little brother. If anything was to happen, they would be separated during tour. Besides, Devon doesn’t even like him anyway.
Wait.
Why is he even thinking about all of this? He doesn’t like Devon. He just couldn’t, so why did he just think those thoughts. Hell, the guys don’t even know that he likes men as well. God, he’s really dreading the day when he’s going to have to tell them. Sure they won’t care, but there is that tiny little part in Jack that makes him feel like everything is going to be terrible. It’s the tiny little part that everyone has that makes it so damn hard being an optimist.
“Hey, Jack,” Devon says with his eyes still on the screen as the man wielding the staff takes out the man that wants revenge for the death of his crew.
“Yeah?”
“I’m sorry about the other day.”
“You don’t have to be sorry. I shouldn’t have pushed a question like that when I could see that you didn’t want it answered.”
“Yeah, but I didn’t have to blow up like that. That’s what I’m really sorry for. Maybe I’ll tell you one of these days.”
“What?”
“You’ll have to be a close friend first or whatever Marie is to me, since she knows.”
“How long do you think that will take? You don’t seem like a very open and sociable guy.”
“That’s because I’m not. You’re not eve my friend now, but you can be a friend of my brother’s, and you can come over to play videogames with him. Although, I don’t know why you like my brother so much. Yeah, he’s awesome, but you must have a ton of friends to hang out with.”
“I do have friends, but I don’t have any like him. When I hang with him, I feel mature but childish at the same time. I don’t know if that makes any sense, but I like it. Plus your brother is cool even though I can kick his butt at this game.”
“Well,” Daren starts, “I’d like to see you try to beat me at another game that I have.”
“Bring it on!”
“Hey, Jack.”
“Yeah, Devon?”
“Do you want to stay for dinner later if you’re still kicking my brother’s butt when it’s time to eat?”
“Um, sure.”
“Yay! Jack gets to stay longer! Nows my chance to show him my real gamer skills!”
“Well, I guess that means that I get to show mine off to.”

That's very much too. I feel like that's why I've been neglecting my stories with this one that I came up with with the help of my stepsister. There are so many chapters planned out, and I already know what's happening after it. Most of the time, I know what it's leading up too, but I'm not good with fillers. Actually, I started a story last week, and I can't bring myself to finish chapter two . It's really annoying just like with one of my other stories. I have a lot planned for it, but I don't want to rush into it.
