Lady and the Tramp II

The last day had seemed to hold quite a few challenges for Luke. Some he handled well, like the various alley situations, but others, not so much. The teen was having quite a bit of trouble believing what he was told about his father.

“No way. That can't be true. He gave it all up? I mean, what could be better than this?” Luke whispered to himself quietly as he walked the streets just behind the junkyard headquarters. He had left just after the important conversation, too stunned to act normal around the rest of the group.

“You okay, tenderfoot?” A voice spoke from behind Luke, that of which he instantly recognized belonged to Angel.

“Who, me? Yeah. Yeah, sure.” Luke considered, shrugging his shoulders.

“What are you doing out here? Don't you have a nice family back home?” Angel sighed, grabbing Luke by his shoulders and turning his body to face hers.

“Wh-Wh-What difference does it make? All families are alike. They boss you around and ridicule you. Ah. Let's just say you're lucky you've never had to live with a family.” Luke answered, slightly annoyed with the girl’s question.

“Wrong again, tenderfoot.” Angel sang sitting down on the concrete, and motioning for Luke to take a seat with her.

“You mean, you had a family?” Luke asked, following Angel’s request.

“Actually, I've had five families.” Angel confessed, to the surprise of Luke.

“I always thought one was too many.” Luke shook his head, as if the action would sort all of the jumbled information he was being fed.

“I could never get one to stick.” Angel explained, “Someone would take me in, and just when l'd start to think ‘Wow, this is my family!’ they’d move or have a new baby, and totally forget about me. Same old story, l'm out on the street.”

“Wait a minute. You really wish you had a family, don't you?” Luke asked suspiciously, receiving a sad nod in reply.

“But you've got Buster.” Luke tried, to which Angel frantically responded with, “Buster! You can't tell him. You can't. “He'll kick me out!”

“Don't worry. Your secret's safe with me.” Luke smiled, taking the girl’s hand. “I promise.”

“Thanks.” Angel said with a small smile, as Luke started up a new conversation.

“So, I guess you're Buster's girl, huh?”

“I am not Buster's girl! I don't belong to any body.” Angel replied defensively, continuing in a calmer matter with, “All of them, they really aren't much of a family, but what choice do I have?”

“What more do you need? As one of them, you could do whatever you wanted.” Luke sighed.

“Run.” Angel stated, expression blank.

Yeah, I guess you could do that,” Luke chuckled, before Angel replied with another “Run,” this time with the raise of an eyebrow.

“Right.” Luke agreed, before Angel was standing up and pulling the boy with her, saying, “No, I mean run!”

Luke then caught sight of what Angel was worrying about. After the blonde girl had whispered, “Reggie,” the two had bolted, splitting off and consequently losing each other in the process.

Meanwhile, Jacque, Trusty, and Luke’s parents were out looking for him. Trusty was convinced that she kept seeing the kid, but was informed of her mistake every time, as she either lost sight of her subject, or was met with someone that was totally not Luke. Scamp? Scamp!

“Come on, pidge.” Jack nudged Alex, as the two walked down Main street under the lights. Alex had been particularly quiet that night, and Jack could tell that he was fretting beyond belief in his head.

“What do you mean?” Alex sighed in response, “I don’t understand how you can be so calm about this.”

“He’s going to be fine,” Jack soothed, wrapping his arm around Alex’s waist. “I knew he’d do this eventually. The kid’s adventurous, what can I say?”

“I know, but it’s scary out here sometimes!” Alex argued, earning a chuckle out of Jack.

“I think we’ve taught him well enough to handle himself out here, don’t you, babe?” Jack asked, winking at his husband.

“I guess so,” Alex agreed, leaning into Jack and wrapping his arm’s around the other man, as well.

“I shouldn't have been so hard on him, though.” Jack stated, shaking his head.
“I don’t think you were hard on him at all. He deserved it. If anything, he should get it even worse for pulling this stunt,” Alex laughed.

“Maybe you’re right. Do you think he’s mad at me, though?” Jack asked with worry, “Is that why he left? Am I a bad dad?”

“No, no, no, no, no.” Alex disagreed, “You’re a great father. He’s a teenager, and this is just what they do, I guess.”

“I am so glad we aren't teenagers anymore,” Jack spoke, leaning down and pressing a kiss to Alex’s lips.

“I couldn’t agree more,” Alex concurred, returning another one of Jack’s kisses.

“Hey.” Luke whispered, trying not to scare Angel.

“Oh. Luke?” Angel turned around, worried expression fading into a relieved one.

Luke shrugged in reply, to which Angel responded with, “You're all right. I was so worried--”

“So worried?” Luke interjected with a smirk.

“Yeah, right.” Angel rolled her eyes with a smile, “Get over yourself.”

“So, now what?” Luke asked, following Angel as she began to stroll down the alley.

“Now what?” Angel repeated, looking at Luke expectantly.

Luke laughed, leaning in to press a kiss to the girl’s cheek. Angel blushed in reply, ducking her head, not knowing how else to respond. Truthfully, Luke was quite surprised with himself. He hadn’t really cared about girls, until now. Lately, all he could focus on was Angel, and the relationshipped he wished for with her. Sure, he’d had small crushes on a couple of girls, but none of them had compared to Angel. She was special, she lit a fire in Luke’s heart that he didn’t want to be put out.
