Lady and the Tramp II

Cashed In His Bones

Jail, Luke realized, didn’t exactly fit in with the meaning of freedom. As he sat in the back of the car, eyes glued to the window as the officer moved forward to enter the vehicle, Luke spotted something out of the corner of his eye. Or, rather, someone. Angel was peeking out from behind a fence, completely helpless to the situation that was unfolding in front of her.

“Luke?” Angel mouthed in the direction of the car window, heart racing. She wished she hadn’t been so right about Luke not belonging on the streets, because this was definitely not where she wanted to see him headed.

“Angel, Get out of here! He'll get you too!” Luke mouthed back, trying to suppress anything else from leaving his lips. Not only would it be a bad time to convey more feelings, due to the cop sitting in the front seat of the car, but it’d also be quite awkward, in regards to his and Angel’s current relationship standing.

The ride to their destination was quite calm, the only sounds being created by Luke’s incessant shuffling. He was more than nervous, and for very good reasons. Soon enough, the teen arrived at the institution, thoughts going wild. The inside of the row of cells was quite grimey, and the curious glances from other prisoners weren’t helping to ease Luke’s worries.

“Hey, kid, looks like you got thrown in the wrong cell.” A dark, young man snickered from the cell over, as Luke was placed into his own.

Turning around, Luke came face to face with the worst person possible in this situation. Backing up slowly, Luke whispered cautiously, “Hey, Reggie. Long time no see, huh?”

Across town, Jack and Alex were getting ready to go for a walk. Alex stood next to the door, buttoning up his coat, while Jack watched from where he was sat on the stairs.

“Why are you watching me?” Alex mumbled, smiling to himself.

“Why wouldn’t I want to?” Jack countered, standing up and taking Alex’s hand.

“Because you could be doing other things, like telling the girls we’re going out?” Alex laughed, raising his eyebrows.

“Girls! We’re leaving,” Jack shouted up the stairs, before turning back to Alex and saying, as he held the door open for the younger man, “Well, you’re beautiful, and I always have time to look at you. Come on, love.”

The couple ended up finding their way to the park, as they usually did. Hand in hand, they walked along the path under the trees.

“How come we always end up here?” Jack asked quietly, as to not disrupt the calm environment they had encountered.

“I don’t know,” Alex replied, “Good memories, I guess”

Jack tried to muffle the laugh that escaped his throat, to no avail, as Alex turned his head to look at him suspiciously. Deciding he’d have to explain himself, Jack chuckled, “You mean like that time we totally fu-”

“Okay, okay!” Alex shook his head, more than glad to intervene, “Yeah, I guess so. Not one of the best things we could’ve done here, but it was nice.”

“Just nice? It was amazing, babe.” Jack laughed, letting go of the shorter man’s hand and choosing to wrap his arm around his waist, instead.

“Well, I mean, it was great, but it wasn’t your first time bottoming, was it?” Alex asked sarcastically, pleased by Jack’s resulting unpleasant facial expressions.

“Glady not, thank you. But yeah, I get what you mean, pidge.” Jack nodded, glad that Alex remembered that night as well as he did.

“Trust me, you’re missing out. It was awesome after the first time,” Alex laughed, smiling at the nickname Jack had used, before continuing with, “It was still a really important night though.”

“Agreed,” Jack nodded, before asking, “Let’s go back up there?”

Alex nodded his head in agreement, and the pair headed off the path, up to where the park looked over the river. Once they’d arrived, they sat down in the grass, with Alex tucked under Jack’s arm.

“Sometimes I wonder where I’d be if we hadn’t met,” Alex mumbled, pressing a kiss to Jack’s neck.

“Well, look who’s getting all philosophical,” Jack laughed, before continuing with, “So do I, love. I think you’d be fine, though.”

“I’m not so sure about that. You did a lot more good for me than bad, you know. I love you,” Alex whispered, smiling into Jack’s neck.

“I love you too, pidge.” Jack responded, lips attaching themselves to Alex’s as the brunet looked up at him.

The sound of running broke the couple apart, both of them looking around to find the source of the noise.

“Oh my God, I finally found you! You’ve got to come, now! Luke’s in trouble!” Cried the blonde jogging towards them, whom of which Jack recognized to be the girl Luke had been talking to in their alley.

“What’s wrong?” Jack asked the girl, while Alex looked between the two quizzically.

“Luke! He, uh, he got caught!” Angel panted, not bothering with taking a seat to cool off.

“Head home, and I’ll meet you back there later, okay? Jack said in a rush, before pressing a kiss to Alex’s head and speeding off with Angel.

Jack was able to burst through the door of the building just in time, Angel trailing not far behind. Well, almost.

“Keep your hands off my boy!” Jack yelled, as Reggie raised his fist in front of Luke. Instead of punching the boy, though, Reggie just simply shoved him against the wall. Luke fell to the floor, and Jack rushed up to the cell, grabbing the keys from off of the wall and unlocking the lock as fast as he could.

“Oh, yeah, he's cashed in his bones. He's cashed.” The man from the cell over remarked, as he watched as Luke just lay on the floor. Opening the heavy door, Jack entered the space as fast as he could, grabbing Luke and making a mad dash. Angel slammed the bars in Reggie’s face as the pair exited, locking the cell back up as Luke spoke to Jack.

“Pop?” Luke asked woozily, wrapping his arms around his father in a hug once he’d realized what happened. “Thank you, dad.”

Jack smiled as Luke then went over to Angel, pulling her into a hug, as well. “All right. We have to go now. Come on, you two.” Jack said, leading the pair out of the building quickly.
