Undercover

Jack and I had run away quite a few days ago and they still hadn't found us yet. Honestly, I was surprised. Well, I wasn't dead so I guess that was a good thing. Jack had begun to trust me so much more than he ever has. He was currently sitting by the river, desperately trying to catch fish. He had a sharpened stick which was all he was using. I doubted his ability but you couldn't tell him anything.

I sat down next to him with my knees pulled up to my chest. I was staring at the water which had fishes swimming easily, they were so free. I lowered one of my hands into the water, tracing circles along the surface. I saw Jack throw the stick into the water.

"Fuck yes," he yelled as he pulled it out.

I looked over and saw not one but two fish. I shook my head, I guess we were going to have fish tonight. I looked over at Jack who's greasy raven hair contrasted the beautiful sunset. His dark eyes locked onto my eyes, I quickly flickered my eyes away.

"I can't fucking believe you Jay," I smirked.

"What," he asked, joking a hurt sound.

"You would be able to prove me wrong. Really, two fish."

"You don't get an then."

He was smirking at me and I frowned in jest. I tackled him playfully and he squealed in shock. I was straddling him on accident. I quickly pushed myself off of him and stood up abruptly. What was going on? I shook my head and picked up the stick which had the fish skewered on it.

Jack stood up, his face a shocking faint pink. He sat by the fire, watching intently as I gutted and skinned the fish. I laid them on rocks which I had placed in the fire to heat them up. I laid back and watched the fish cook. I looked up to the beautiful pinks and oranges of the sky. I could actually enjoy life right now, I wasn't afraid.

"What are you thinking about," Jack asked.

"What do you mean Jay," I asked, caught off guard.

"You keep looking at the sky and you look like you have a lot on your mind."

"No, I'm just wondering if this is okay. Like, I keep wondering if we are going to make it. I guess, I'm a little afraid I guess. I never thought I would ever say that but I think I'm afraid."

"You can feel fear? You've jumped off of how many buildings? You've been faced with death how many times? You can do anything and god dammit Alex, you can keep us alive."

I smiled up at my best friend. How did he know exactly what I needed to hear? He always knew what it was that I wanted more than anything to hear. I finished cooking the food and gave one of the slightly burned fishes to Jack. He happily began to eat it as I picked at. I handed mine to Jack.

"Alex, I was joking, eat your fish," he said, refusing to take it.

"Jack, take it please, I'm not hungry, I can't eat," I told him.

"You need to eat Lex, seriously. Take it."

I stood up and walked to the make shift bed I had made. I stripped myself down and curled up underneath the blanket there. I looked up at the darkening sky, desperate to let sleep overtake me. I didn't understand what was going on in my mind, I just didn't understand.

I felt the makeshift bed move as Jack climbed next to me. I heard him sigh as he laid down. I could tell he was upset with me, why wouldn't he be? I hadn't been eating because everything was confusing me. Perhaps that was a huge problem.

"Alex, just listen to me," Jack spoke softly.

I just ignored him as I somehow managed to slip into a sleep. I knew he wasn't happy with me. My dreams were made up of him which was weird in itself. Another complicated thing to add to the list of things that confused me.

Notes

So, I have some stuff going on in my personal life but I'm going to continue to try to update all of my many stories. This update is pretty eh but it's just a filler. It will speed up soon, I promise.
