Chapter Seven.

Layla

I woke up when I heard my alarm going off. I reached over and turned it off. 6:30am. I turned on my bedside lamp and looked around my new room. Last night was the first night I have slept in my new room here at Alex and Lisa’s house. They did a amazing job on it. I told them a few bands I listen to, and they got me some posters and put them on the walls, my beautiful lilac walls. I heard a soft knock on my door.

“It’s open.” I spoke quietly. I watched as the door opened, and Alex appeared.

“Morning Layla.” He spoke with a smile.

“What are you doing up this early?” I asked as I rubbed my eyes.

“I got up so I could take you to school in about an hour.”

“Alex, you don’t have to do that. I can walk.”

“Shut up. I’m not going to make my daughter walk four miles to school.” Did he just say four miles? My Mom was going to make me walk four fucking miles?!

“Fine. I’ll get ready and meet you downstairs.” I spoke with a yawn. He nodded his head and left my room, shutting the door behind him. I really liked this house, not just because Alex and Lisa are the nicest people ever, but because I have a real room, and my own bathroom! I got off my bed and went to my closet, picking out my white summer dress that Lisa got me the other day. We had picked out my outfit to wear while the boys were at the bar yesterday. I was going to be wearing the white summer dress, with my pair of purple Vans, as well as a few band bracelets, and this little black throw jacket I had, that has a Pierce The Veil sign on the back of it. I took my outfit into the bathroom with me and turned on the water, letting it run for a minute to get to the right temperature for me. I quickly stripped of my clothes and got in the running water. I was glad that my little PTV jacket went with the outfit, because my few bracelets I was going to wear, did not cover my cuts and scars, not all of them at least. I quickly washed my body and hair and got back out, drying my body and taking a few minutes to look at my wrists. As I started getting dressed, my mind drifted to what happened yesterday. Kaitlin’s parents. They treated me like I was there daughter, it’s hard to even think of something like that, it feels like a horrid nightmare, but it’s not. It really happened, and I need to understand that. I need to be strong, strong for Kaitlin, it must have taken more of a toll on her than it did on me, they were her real parents. I remembered the phone call that happened between Kaitlin and I, after Alex and Lisa talked to me. Kaitlin agreed to the idea, after me begging her for about five minutes. So, Alex, Lisa, Jack, and I were all going to go to the airport and pick Kaitlin up after school today. Lisa told me they would let me skip today, but I told them that I was fine, and I needed to go. Which was the truth, it’s the first day of my Senior year, at a new school. The students were already one month into the school year, and I haven’t been to school for a week, due to moving. I finished up my hair, adding hairspray to it, to keep the curls in. I grabbed my ipod and headphones, and put them in my bookbag, as I slung it over my shoulder. I walked out of my room, closing it quietly behind me, not sure if Lisa was sleeping or not. I made my way down the steps and into the hall, ending in the living room.

“Oh, morning Lisa. Morning Jacky.” I spoke as I saw all three of them sitting on the couches, just talking. “Wait, when did Jack get here?” I was confused.

“He came here in the middle of the night. I told Alex we need to take his key away from him.” Lisa said with a small laugh. She walked over to me and took one of my hands in her’s, she turned my arm, making me spin around. “You look so beautiful!”

“Thanks Lisa.” I said with a smile, as I felt the heat in my cheeks.

“That’s it. You’re going to be home schooled. If I send you to that school all the boys will be all over you!” Alex whined.

“Already acting like my Dad, huh?” I asked with a giggle. To be honest, he started acting like my Dad the minute I met him, well, not that minute, but the minute he talked to me on the steps in front of my house.

“Yes, I am. And I am a very protective one as well.” He spoke as he got up from his seat and made his way over to Lisa and I. “You will tell me if any boy tries to touch you, right?”

“Tell you?! No. More like tell me! I’ll kick their asses! Touch my girl! Hell no!” Jack complained from his spot on the couch. I giggled and walked over to Jack, holding my hand out to him to help him up from his seat. He gladly took my hand and got up, letting go of my hand and putting his arms around my shoulders, bring me into a hug, to which I returned. I have to admit, he smelled good. Like, really good. That’s not creepy, right?

“I take that as you are coming with me to drop her off, Jack?” Alex spoke up, making us break the hug.

“Sure am!” Jack said with a smile.

“I call shotgun!” I spoke.

“That’s not fair!” Jack complained.

“Oh stop, you can get in the front on the way back, when she gets out of the car.” Alex spoke.

“Fine.” Jack agreed. I walked back over to Lisa and gave her a quick hug and told her good-bye. Alex, Jack, and I all walked out the door and made our way to Alex’s car. Once we were all in, Alex started up the car and I heard my phone go off in the pocket of my jacket. I quickly took the phone out and saw ‘Kaitlin’ flash on the screen. I answered the phone and put it up to my ear.

“Hey babe, how are you holding up?” I asked.

“I’m doing okay. I have everything packed, that I want to bring. Alex said he was having my stuff shipped to his house, which means the people will be here to help me any minute now.” She spoke.

“This early? It’s like, 4:30am, your time.” I spoke.

“Yeah, my flight leaves at 10am. That way I can get their when you get out of school. Are you on your way to school yet?”

“Yeah, I’m in the car with Alex and Jack right now.”

“Ooo. Jack.” She spoke, teasing me.

“Shut up.” I laughed.

“Fine. I’ll see you after school then, the mover people just got here. Love you boo.”

“Love you too, babe. Bye.”

“Bye.” We both hung up on the same time and I turned off my phone, not wanting it to go off during class, or worse, die during school.

“Was that Kaitlin?” Alex asked.

“Yeah, the movers just got to her house.” I answered his question. “What’s going to happen to her house anyways? They own it, so like, what’s going on with it?”

“Kaitlin and I talked about it, I told her that we will not sell the house, we will have the house put in her name fully when she is 18, that way if she ever wants to move back to Cali, she will already have a house to live in, that’s already paid off.” He spoke with a smile. I nodded my head in understanding and looked in the mirror, making eye contact with Jack. He winked at me and sent a little kissy-face to me. I blushed and hid my face, as I turned away from the mirror. I heard Jack chuckle from the backseat. When I knew the blush on my face was gone, I un-hid my face and saw that we were pulling up to the school. Holy shit was it huge, and holy shit where there a lot of kids.

“Holy shit.” I spoke softly.

“Bigger than the old school?” Alex asked.

“No.” I spoke, which was true, my old school was a little bit bigger.

“Then what is it?” Alex asked, sounding confused.

“Even if my old school was bigger, there was never this many kids just hanging out. Or even inside.” I spoke.

“You will be fine.” He said with a smile.

“Do you want us to go in with you? Help you find the office?” Jack asked from the backseat.

“As much as I would love for you guys to come in with me. I don’t feel like being in the middle of a swarm of kids, who are trying to take pictures with you guys.” I spoke with a small laugh.

“Fair enough. But, are you sure?” Alex questioned.

“I’m sure. I can find my way around, if worse comes to worse, I’ll most likely end up finding a bathroom and staying in there till the bell rings for first class, that way it will be easier for me to make my way around the halls as the kids will already be in class.”

“Okay. Just make sure you try and get to your classes on time. And if anyone messes-” Alex spoke, but I cut him off.

“I understand. Being the protective Father figure is great, Alex. But I think I can handle high school, I have for three years.” I spoke with a laugh. He let out a sigh and looked at me.

“I know, I know. But you are my child now. My daughter! I have to make sure no boys try and touch you.” He spoke. I laughed and opened the car door.

“I’ll be fine! I’ll see you guys after school.” I spoke as I got out of the car. I kept the door open, since I knew Jack was going to get in the front seat. I listened to what Jack was telling Alex before walking off, I needed to say good-bye as well.

“What’s the rule on kissing on the cheek?” Jack asked Alex.

“Since it’s her first day at a new school, just this one time.” Alex spoke. Soon Jack’s door flung open and he jumped out. He shut it behind him and looked at me with a side smirk. “Hello Miss. Carson.”

“Hello Mr. Barakat.” I said with a laugh.

“Don’t laugh at me!” He spoke, laughing as well.

“Whatever. Bye Alex!” I spoke waving good-bye to him. “Good-bye Jacky.” I turned around, but was quickly pulled back by him. he threw his arms around me and hugged me tightly, to which I happily returned. I liked his hugs, they are so warm and comforting. He let go of me and placed a small kiss on my cheek.

“Better get inside, don’t want to be late on your first day.” He spoke with a smile as he moved away from me and sat in the car. I let out a giggle and waved good-bye to both of them, then turned around and made my way up through the small parking lot and up the stairs. I felt my anxiety spark as I saw everyone looking at me. I took a deep breathe to calm myself down.

“Aye baby! Come on over here!” Someone spoke, as I walked by him and his little group. I looked over at the person who said it and saw he was undressing me with his eyes.

“In your dreams, creep.” I spoke as I continued to walk.

“Ooh, we got a feisty one!” Another one of the boys spoke. I rolled my eyes and opened the doors to the building. More eyes were on me, I guess this is what happens when you are the new student. I ignored everyone's stares the best I could, and found my way to the office, it wasn’t that hard to find. I walked up to the desk and saw a woman there typing on her computer.

“Hi. My name is Layla Carson, I’m new here.” I spoke. I’m surprised I didn’t stutter, normally I would be stuttering a lot around new people. The woman gave me a smile and handed me a paper.
“That’s your schedule, sweetheart. Your first class is up the first flight of stairs and is the second door on the right.” She spoke with a smile.

“Thank you very much.” I said returning her smile and leaving the office. I followed to route to the room, and walked in, right when the bell rang.

“Miss. Layla Carson, I’m guessing?” The teacher spoke as he walked over to me with a smile. I nodded my head to answer his question.

“I’m Mr. Morgan, and I will be your History teacher. You can go ahead and take a seat in the middle of there next to Chris. Chris, please raise your hand so Layla knows who you are.” Mr. Morgan spoke. I looked out into the room, and saw all eyes were on me, that seems to be happening a lot today. I saw as a boys hand was raised, I slowly made my way over to the chair next to his. I also saw that the kid who was checking me out earlier was also in the class, and sat right behind where I was about to sit. Great. I put my bookbag on the ground next to my chair, and sat down.

“Hi, I’m Chris.” The boy next to me spoke, as he held out his hand to me. I kindly took it and greeted him.

“Layla.” I spoke with a small smile.

“Your name is Layla? That’s a pretty hot name. Hot name to match a hot body.” The boy behind me spoke. I let out a sigh and looked forward.

“Zander, shut the hell up and spoke harassing the poor girl.” Chris shot at him. I gave him a smile that said thank you, to which he nodded his head, to say you’re welcome. The rest of the morning classes went by pretty quickly, I had Chris in three out of four of them, and he was kind enough to show me where they were. “Ready for lunch?”

“Sure.” I spoke with a smile. We also have lunch together, but that is the last thing we have together, so after lunch, I’m on my own. Chris and I walked the halls, and made our way to the lunch room. I wasn’t really in the mood to eat today.

“Want me to walk in the line with you?” He asked.

“Oh no, I’m not eating. Not really hungry.” I spoke.

“Understandable. Come on, you can sit with me and my friends.” Chris said, as he started walking down the aisles of tables and stopped at one, with two other people at it. Chris sat down and I took the seat next to him. “Guys, this is Layla. She’s new here.”

“Hi Layla, I’m Brent.” One boy spoke, as he held out his hand for me. I gladly took it and greeted him.

“Nice to meet you.” I spoke.

“I’m Jasper.” The other guy spoke, as he also held his hand out to me. Again, I kindly took his hand and greeted him as well.

“Nice to meet you as well.” I spoke.

“I couldn’t help but notice your jacket and bracelets. I love all those bands!” Brent spoke.

“Really?” I asked.

“Yeah, mostly All Time Low. They are my favorite band.” He spoke with a smile.

“So you know that this is the school the Jack, Alex, and Rian went to?” I quizzed him.

“Yep! I even ran into Alex and Lisa one day when I was on a walk. They were so nice.” He continued.

“They really are nice people.” I spoke.

“You have met them before?” Chris asked.

“I live with them.” I spoke.

“What?!” Jasper asked, sounding shocked.

“Oh. Yeah. Forgot know one here knows what’s going on.” I said with a small laugh. I don’t know why I opening up to these people, but they just seem like nice guys, that I could become really good friends with. “My real Mom is a bitch, like, a total abusive bitch. As well as her boyfriend, and my brother. Alex and Lisa are helping me out. We have to go to court later this week to fill out papers and go before a jury. They want to get me out of the house with my family, so they are adopting me.”

“No way! I don’t believe you!” Brent spoke.

“What will make you believe me?” I asked.

“Uh..I don’t know...uh...just do something? I guess.” Brent spoke, sounding confused. I laughed and picked up my phone that I put on the table, since I turned it on when I sat down. I went to my contacts and clicked on Alex’s name. I put the phone on speaker and pressed call. We waited for about ten seconds, and Alex picked up on the fourth ring.

“Hello? Is my daughter surviving her first day at school?” He asked with a chuckle when he answered.

“Yeah, I guess I am. It’s boring though. Can I come home early?” I asked.

“No. You stay at school and get that education.” He spoke.

“But Alex!” I whined, carrying out the ‘a’ sound.

“But Layla.” He copied my whine, carrying out the ‘a’ sound in my name.

“That’s not nice to copy my whining, Alex!”

“Then don’t whine, Layla!” He laughed.

“Fine. What are you guys up to?”

“Lisa, Jack, Rian, and Zack are all in the kitchen playing beer pong.” I could hear the smirk on his lips now.

“Really? You guys couldn’t wait till dark?” I asked with a laugh.

“What can we say? We like beer!” He spoke.

“True.”

“Who are you talking to, Lex?” I heard Lisa’s voice on the other end.

“It’s Layla.” Alex replied to her.

“Hi Lisa!” I spoke into the phone, I could tell Alex just put me on speaker.

“Hey sweetheart! I can’t wait till you get out of school! The boys are driving me insane! I need my little mini-me back!” Lisa spoke.

“You could always come and pick me up early.” I tried on Lisa.

“Not happening.” Alex spoke. I let out a sigh.

“It that Layla? Let me speak.” I heard Jack’s voice. I heard the phone being passed to someone’s hand, then Jack’s voice came again. “Layla! I miss you! Like holy shit. How’s school? Any assholes?”

“Hey Jacky. And yes, there is one asshole I met, right after you and Lex pulled away from dropping me off earlier.”

“What did the person do? Do I need to come down there and save you for that horrid place?” He asked.

“I would love for you to come save me! But, unfortunately, Alex said I can’t come home early. Even if they did say I could just skip the day. But like, the guys name is Zander, and he is a fucking pig.” I ranted.

“I’m sorry you have to deal with him. Would it make you feel better if I took you out for ice cream after school?”

“And what about Kaitlin?”

“She can come too! I’m sure everyone will come along to be honest. Alex and Lisa need to get to know their daughters!” He chuckled.

“Whatever Jacky. I’ll talk to you later, I’m at lunch right now, and I’m going to talk to a few friends I made.” I spoke ending with a small laugh.

“Ooh, friends. Names?” He questioned. I sighed as I shook my head with a smile.

“Their names are Chris, Jasper, and Brent.” I spoke.

“As long as they don’t touch you. You may be friends with them.” Jack spoke, I could hear the smirk on his face.

“Whatever! Bye Jack.” I said laughing.

“Bye Layla.” Jack spoke. And with those words we both hung up. I looked over at a shocked Brent, Jasper, and Chris.

“Believe me now?” I asked them with a smile. They all nodded their heads. “Good, because that’s the only thing I can do to show you guys that I wasn’t lying.” I ended with a smile laugh. All four of us talked for the rest of lunch, when the bell rang, I made my way to my next class.

The rest of the day went by pretty boring. I didn’t make anymore friends, which I was fine with. Chris, Brent, and Jasper all seemed like they would be friends enough, and starting on Wednesday, Kaitlin will be going to school here as well. She’s only 16, soon to be 17, but she is a Senior as well, she skipped the 3ed grade, which is how we met. I walked out of the school, and made my way down the side-walk to go to the parking lot. I felt someone following me, then I heard a voice.

“Oh, Layla.” The voice of Zander spoke, as he dragged out the ‘a’ sound in my name. I ignored him and kept walking, him still following me. I spotted Alex and Jack sitting in Alex’s car, and made my way to them. “Don’t ignore me.”

“Fuck off.” I spoke as we got closer to Alex’s car. I watched as both the boys eyes saw me, Jack’s face lit up, but went away quickly as he saw I had the look of annoyance on my face. I felt hand on my shoulder, pull me so I was facing them. “I said fuck off, Zander!” I shouted.

“Don’t raise your voice to me, girl.” Zander spoke coming closer to me. Before he could lay another hand on me, I was being pulled back, and someone stood in front of me. I looked at the person in front of me and saw it was Alex. So I’m guessing the person who had pulled me back, and was standing behind me, was Jack.

“Don’t come near her, again.” Alex spoke.

“Holy shit. Your Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low.” Zander said, I could see his eyes go wide.

“And you are a prick who needs to stay away from my daughter.” Alex spoke, crossing his arms over his chest.

“Since when did you have a daughter?” Zander asked, sounding very confused.

“Lisa and I are in the process of adopting her. Now stay the fuck away from her.” Alex said as he glared at the boy then turned around and walked over to Jack and I. “You okay, Layla?”

“I’m fine. Thanks guys.” I spoke.

“Who was that guy?” Jack asked from behind me.

“You know that guy I was talking to you about at lunch?” I asked.

“That him?” He asked.

“Yep.” I spoke, as I opened the backseat car door, before I got in I looked in and saw Lisa. “Hey Lisa.” I spoke as I got in and shut the door behind me.

“Are you okay?” She asked with worry.

“I’m fine.” I said with a small laugh.

“Well if you are sure you are fine. Then let’s go pick up my other daughter!” She said with a huge smile. I could tell she liked having people to take care of.

“Yes! I want to meet her as well!” Alex spoke as he started up the car.

“Well then off we go!” I said with a laugh, as Alex drove off.

Notes

The next chapter will also be in Layla's POV.
I didn't want to add them together, or they would be like, double the length, in the chapter.
