Alex POV

Walking back to my room, I couldn’t help but let my mind roam to the girl in the room right down the hall to me. She was perfect to me in everyway. She had bright red hair, that must’ve been dyed, that was mid-back length, she was 5’6, and small and petite but had some muscle to her. She sang and played guitar in a band, the same thing I did. I love her band and songs; they’re written with so much raw, pure emotion that anybody who listens couldn’t help but like them. I remember when Jack first made me listen to them.
~~~Flashback!~~~

“Alex, Alex, Alex! Lexy!” I heard Jack yell from the doorway to my house.

“What Jack?” I yelled back to him getting up from off my bed and putting my guitar to the side. He walked into the hall and I met him halfway.

“I heard this upcoming new band and they’re amazing! They’re playing at Warped and I want to meet them! Please can I?” Jack said to me in one breath. I sighed and rubbed my forehead, being friends with Jack was like having a child basically.

“Who are they Jack?” I asked him, trying my hardest not to sound annoyed.

“My Tears of Pain! They’re fucking awesome! Like a mix of Sleeping with Sirens, Pierce the Veil and us. That’s how awesome they are.” Jack explained to me and I got to admit that mix sounded really good.

“Fine let’s listen to them. I want to hear how they sound first.” I told Jack. He nodded and walked into my room and got my MacBook Pro from it’s hiding spot, which he only knew about, and pulled up YouTube. He typed in ‘My Tears of Pain’ and it pulled up one of their singles from their new album ‘Burning Hell Hole’. The song was called ‘Retrace these steps’ and the video had the lyrics to it too.

Once the song was over I couldn’t help my reaction. My jaw dropped and I’m sure I had a look of surprise on my face. “Fucking hell just got cold.” I told Jack.

Jack looked confused, “Huh?”

I looked over to him and said, “They are fucking amazing and you were right. Hell has got to be cold right now. I feel sorry for those poor souls.” I laughed before looking back at my laptop. ‘My Tears of Pain’ good band name and I looked them up on Google to find a picture and saw that there was a girl singing and not somebody like Vic, a man with a girl’s voice. She was actually the only girl with a band of all boys. In total there were four of them. There were plenty of gifs from just one of them to all of them, and from concerts to hanging out to interviews.

“They are amazing right? I met the guitarist; Martin, yesterday and we talked guitars. Dream come fucking true!” Jack fan-girled making me laugh because I’m so use to seeing people fan-girl over us and not the opposite way around. I nodded, and wanted to know their names. Telling Jack so, he found a picture that had all them in it and told me. “That’s Martin lead guitar, that’s Jason the drummer and extremely close with the singer. The singer is Nelly, she started the band and plays guitar too and that’s Astro he plays bass and does back-up vocals.” Jack told me going from left to right.

“How long have you been obsessing with this band Jack?” I ask him because he seems to know everything about them.

“Not too long ago maybe a month before I heard they’re going to be on Warped with us. And I heard that two months ago.” Jack told me before searching for another one of their songs. I couldn’t get over how angelic her voice sounded and how heart-broken she sounded recording these songs. Raw, pure, unedited emotions just what every song needs.

To think that was almost a year ago, now I’m living with the singer. Things have changed and change was good for me. We were going on Warped and then across the country with our support band. A support band we still don’t know the name of, I wasn’t in a rush to know the name like the guys were, and I didn’t care.

“Alex!” I heard my name being shouted and I snapped out of my own world to find Nelly standing in the threshold of my door, leaning against the frame.

Raising an eyebrow, I answered, “Yeah?” In my most calm voice because her yelling my name like that made me think of some things I really shouldn’t be thinking about doing with my roommate.

“I asked if you want to go out for lunch?” Nelly asked me seemingly nervous. I rose and eyebrow as I thought about this. I unknowingly started twirling my hair around my finger. I didn’t know I was doing it until I felt a hand pull my hand from my hair.

I looked at Nelly questionably, “That annoys me, I’m sorry.” She told me, I shrugged it off not really caring because it annoyed everybody.

“It’s ok, it annoys everybody and I’m not really aware I do it.” I told her before thinking about her earlier question. “And yeah, I want to go out for lunch with you.” I told her and she seemed satisfied because she left soon after and told me to be ready by one o’clock.

I threw on a pair of skinny jeans and a grey striped shirt before looking at the time. It was 12:50 so I went downstairs to find my black Nike’s and my keys. Five minutes later I hear Nells walking down the stairs. I stop my search to look up at her outfit. She has on white shorts, a green shirt that said ‘Don’t kill my vibe’ and grey Nike’s. Her hair was half up and half down and was pin straight. I have no idea how she managed this in the span of ten minutes but she was damn good.

“Ready?” She asked me. I nodded before walking over to the door and opening it so she could go out first and I followed locking it behind me. “Do you want to walk or drive?”

I shrugged, “Your choice.” I told her and I suddenly hoped she chose to walk because walking takes longer and longer means more alone time with Nells.

“Let’s walk.” Her thoughts must’ve been on the same track as mines. We started walking to the closest food place which happened to be Subway and we talked about random things like if we could be a super hero who would we be. I chose Batman but she chose Cat women, excellent choice I would love to see her in that outfit for Halloween.

After we made it to Subway and got our food, we decided to walk to the nearby park and eat there. We sat on a bench and enjoyed the sun as we ate. There was no talking but the silence didn’t seem uncomfortable or awkward it was there and peaceful and comfortable and easy.

We sat for a while after we finish eating and soon enough we got bored. “Alex come push me on the swing!” Nelly yelled to me as she ran over to the swing set, taking a swing she sat down and waited for me. “Hurry up.” She called to me, when I wasn’t walking fast enough for her. I picked up the pace and walked behind her, pulling the swing back and letting go only to keep pushing it.

Once she got tired of playing on the swing we both sat down on the grass and watched the sunset. As the sky got dark we laid down to watch the stars come out and stargaze. I pointed out all types of constellations and told the stories behind them. She seemed interested but after a while she let out a yawn, causing me to yawn too. “I’m sorry, why didn’t you tell me to stop?” I asked her.

She looked confused, “Why would I want you to stop? I was enjoying listening to you talk about stars. You seem so in your element.” She told me.

“But you yawned.” I pointed out confused.

She nodded, giggling, “Because I’m tired. Not because I’m bored, I can never get bored of you.” Nells told me and I decided it was too long of a walk for her to take so I called up Jack knowing he’d do it in a heart beat for me and his favorite band singer. I walked away from Nelly dialing Jack’s number.

“Hey Jack, can you do me a favor?” I asked him when he answered the phone.

“What’s up Lex?” I heard him reply.

“I need you to come pick Nelly and me from the park near my house.” I told him.

“Yeah, be there in ten.” Jack told me before we both hung up. I walked back to Nelly, to find her fast asleep on the grass. I smiled before deciding to just carry her. I saw Jack’s car at the park’s opening and carried her over to it. I placed her in the backseat, while getting in the front.

“Why are you guys at the park?” Jack asked me as he drove back to my place.

“We came out for lunch and ate at the park before playing around and stargazing.” I told him, remembering the day we just had.

“Asked her out on a date already? Go Lexy!” Jack yelled, causing me to shush him.

“No, it was just as friends.” I told him, feeling bummed out because of that fact.

“Don’t worry.” Was all Jack said before we reached my house. I carried Nelly to her room and took off her shoes and covered her up before going into my room. I changed into shorts and got into bed and letting the exhaustion finally take me under and I closed my eyes.
