Anything But Ordinary

The funeral was a bit overwhelming for me. I mean, it was my grandmother. But Alex was there, and that's what mattered most to me. He comforted me during the ceremony and during the burial.

The drive back to my parent's was silent. Jack sat next to me on my left and Alex was on my right, both my parents in the front. I sighed and rested my head on Alex's shoulder. I didn't really have the guts to tell my mom and dad about the baby and moving in with Alex.

We pulled up in the driveway, and we all unbuckled our seatbelts. Alex pushed his door open, and he got out. I slid over, getting out as well. Alex closed the door, wrapping an arm around my waist, and we walked up to the house. He released me when the door was pushed open, and we followed Jack inside.

"So... is anyone hungry?" My mom asked.

"No," I muttered. I entered the kitchen, sitting down at the kitchen table. If I was going to tell them, I was going to get it over with as soon as possible.

"Mom... dad I have some things to say," I said. Alex took the spot next to me, lacing his fingers through mine under the table. Jack sat down across from us, and my parents took the two ends.

"I remember you saying something about your grandmother's house, right?" My dad asked. I nodded.

"Yeah. So, Jack and I talked about it, and we decided that I would take the house. But, Alex asked me to move in with him, and I said yes. So I'm not taking the house," I said, looking up at my dad.

"But you two aren't dating?" He asked.

"That's another thing. We are dating," I said, and Jack smiled.

"Took you guys long enough," Jack said. My cheeks heated up.

"Is there anything else?" My mom asked. I nodded.

"I'm pregnant," I muttered, looking down at my lap.

"Really!?" My mom asked, her smile wide. I sighed.

"You're not supposed to be happy about that," I muttered.

"Why? Why shouldn't we be happy?" She asked.

"Because it's not Alex's," I said. Alex squeezed my hand, and I squeezed his back.

"Whose is it then?" Dad asked me with raised eyebrows.

"I don't really know how to say this, so I'll just say it... I was raped about a month ago... and the father is in prison now," I said.

"Claire! Oh my god!" My mom exclaimed.

"Why aren't you getting rid of the baby!?" Dad asked me.

"Because Alex said he'd help me raise it," I said. Alex nodded, pulling me against him.

"This is all very sudden, Claire. Are you sure you guys can handle it? I mean, if you ever need anything, let us know, okay?" My mom asked. I nodded.

"How long have you guys been dating?" Jack asked.

"Two days," I said. I was so glad they took all of that so well. I was half expecting to get yelled at or something. Jack, Alex and I left about two hours after that.

"We can start packing your stuff up this week, if you'd like," Alex said to me. I smiled and nodded.

"I'd like that. I really would. Thank you so much, Alex. I really appreciate this," I said. He smiled.

"That's what I'm here for, baby," he said, and I wrapped my arms around his neck, pressing a kiss against his lips.

"I'll see you tomorrow," I said, standing back as he got in his car. I kissed him once more, and he took off down the street. I headed inside where Jack was sitting on the couch watching tv.

This weekend wasn't so bad at all.
