Punk Rock Princess

"Dude, you are missing it! Rian's getting his ass kicked at beer pong!"

"You say that like it doesn't happen every time he plays," Alex chuckled, turning up the plastic cup in his hands to finish off the bitter-sweet taste of his whiskey.

"I'm up next. Wanna be on my team?"

It was really hard to deny Jack of such a small luxury when he was so excited over the game. Actually, it was hard to deny Jack of anything when he was so excited. That's why Alex was here, at this party, after he'd already decided he didn't want to go out this Halloween. It also explains his lame costume, which was just a white tee-shirt covered in blood. To have been last minute, though, it didn't look too bad. Jack was having fun telling everyone that Alex had been hit by a car and that's why he was covered in blood.

"Yea-actually," Alex paused, his eyes focused on the front door and the body that just stepped through it. It was a girl, a girl he'd never met, a cute girl that he'd never met. "I think I'm just going to hang out in here. Zack's pretty good, though, you could ask him to play with you."

"Suit yourself," Jack grinned, smacking his hand on Alex's shoulder. "Don't do anything I wouldn't do!"

Alex rolled his eyes and shifted his weight. For some reason, he was feeling kind of awkward. He was just kind of hanging out away from everyone with an empty cup, while his eyes darted from the bottle of Jack on the living room table to the new girl who was giggling with her friends. Without his best friend to pester him, Alex was actually able to get a good look at the girl. Her outfit definitely caught his attention. She was plaid, red pants with chains hanging around the belt loops. Combat boots were snugly pressed to her feet, her make-up was rather bold and she had a leather jacket covering her arms. She was an adorable little punk and he wanted to go introduce himself, but she was so wrapped up in her friends that she hadn't even noticed him.

Letting out a sigh, Alex made his way over to the table and poured some of the dark liquid into his cup. He sloshed it around a few times, debating on whether or not he actually wanted to drink it. With all of his friends playing drinking games, he didn't really have much of a reason to party by himself. That was, until he lifted his gaze and saw a pair of painted eyes staring in his direction. Alex hadn't expected the girl to notice him, not when he was amusing himself by spinning his cup. Embarrassment rose in his gut and he did his best to hide the color coming to his cheeks.

He shuffled his feet and moved back away from the bodies grinding around him, doing his best not to look up at the girl and give away that she'd made his heart flutter. What was it about her? Was it the fact that he'd never seen her before? Was it how cute she looked in her costume? Or maybe it was the way she barely paid any mind to him. Whatever the case, Alex found himself glancing in her direction again. This time, their eyes locked and he felt a smile coming to his lips. The girl let out a small giggle and turned her attention back to her friends, and though he couldn't quiet make out what the females were talking about, he knew the girl was waving them off.

So there she was, standing all by herself. Alex watched her shift her weight and run her finger along her arm, uncomfortable from being left alone at a party where she knew no one. He decided this was his chance to speak to her, but he wanted to chug what was left in his cup before he did so, so that he could feel more confident. Squeezing his eyes shut, Alex tossed back the drink and cringed to the burning sensation in his throat and gut. He let out a groan from the taste and shook his head, hoping to shake the feeling. When the contents settled in his body, he exhaled a deep breath and took a step forward. But there was one problem. The girl wasn't anywhere to be seen.

Feeling defeated, Alex crunched his cup in his hands and tossed it in the near by trash can, opting to leave the scene around him since he had no reason to stick around anymore. The thought of leaving the party entirely had crossed his mind, but he knew Jack would come looking for him at some point and a drunk, upset Jack was something he didn't want to deal with, so he pushed his way through the bodies and found the back door, the brisk October air sending a chill down his spine.

There were a few people scattered about the backyard. Most of them were either arguing, making out or turning into emotional drunks. Also not something Alex wanted to deal with. He flashed a smile to those that were kind enough to nod their head in his direction and set off through the grass, nothing but the light of the moon guiding his way to the water that lined the edge of the property. He was thankful that there weren't any people around, just a lone figure standing a few feet away from him. It was too dark to really see who it was, since they were by a cluster of trees, but he figured he'd leave them alone.

Alex made his way over the dock and sat down by the edge of the water. The breeze made the dock creak and rock, but he found it comforting, even though it was a tad spooky on Halloween night. He put his hands behind his back and let his weight fall against them, a smile creeping to his lips as a could moved away from the moon and made the glow reflect off of the water. It really was gorgeous, he just wished he had someone to share the moment with.

"It's really beautiful, isn't it?" A voice called from behind him. It was a sweet voice, one that sent chills down his spine. "I just wish it wasn't so cold."

"Well, that's October for you," Alex chuckled, turning his head to see who had found him. What he didn't expect to see were combat boots and plaid jeans. His heart skipped a beat as his smile grew wider. "I saw you with your friends inside. Where'd they go?"

"Some kid Jack invited us here tonight. My best friend kind of has a thing for him so they all bailed on me to go play beer pong."

"Jack?" Alex stiffed a laugh, silently thanking his best friend for being such a flirt. "He's a good guy. I'm sure they're having a blast."

"So, why are you all alone?"

"Well, Jack's my best friend and he bailed on me to play beer bong," Alex sighed, though the smile never left his face. Actually, it grew, as the girl sat down beside him and let her fingers graze the top of the water. "I'm Alex, by the way."

"Zoe," she turned her head to flash him a toothy grin. Alex couldn't help but think it was the most beautiful smile he'd ever seen.

The two sat in a comfortable silence for a while, staring out at the water, nothing but the sounds of Zoe's fingers making ripples in the water to distract them. Alex never really took his eyes off the girl, which she seemed to pick up on every time she turned to look at him. This also seemed to spark an idea in the girl, a playful way to break the silence and flirt with the boy at the same time. She stuck her hand further into the water, depsite the fact that her fingers were going numb, and raised them up quickly, sending cold splashes all over Alex's torso. Said boy let out a gasp and jumped back, his fingers grabbing at the fabric to pull the cold spots away from his skin.

"You really are a punk, you know that?" Alex grinned, shaking his body to get more heat flowing. "You're going to pay for that, Zoe."

"We've only just met. What makes you think I'm not stronger than you?"

"You might look like a badass, but you're still a lot smaller than me. You're going down, punk!"

Zoe let out a squeak and tried to slide away from Alex, but his long arms were no match for her fast feet. He pulled her against his chest with one arm and stuck his free hand in the water. As he returned it to the air, he ran his fingers along her face, laughing harder with every squeal that escaped her lips.

"Fuck, that's cold!"

"I told you I was going to get you," Alex teased, releasing the girl from his grip. "Once you get to know me you'll realize I'm always true to my word."

"Does that mean you're asking me to be your friend?" Zoe smiled, using her jacket to wipe stray drops of water from her cheek.

"Nah," Alex grinned, butterflies smacking against his stomach as her face dropped to his response. He couldn't explain the connection he had to this stranger, he just knew it was a feeling that would last forever. A feeling he'd fight to cling to if he had to. A feeling he knew was mutual. "I think you're going to be my punk rock princess, Zoe."
