We Can Live Like Jack and Sally

Jack wrapped his fingers around the cold neck of the beer, his eyes bouncing around the room as a could of loneliness landed on his shoulders. Usually he was the life of the party, but there was something about this night, the scariest night of the year that made him feel small. All around him, there were booze, girls and couples. Even the low-cut, slutty costumes the drunk girls were wearing wasn't enough to pull him from his slump.

He was sick of everything being routine. Shouldn't there be some change in his life, since this night wasn't supposed to be like the rest? He didn't want to thrown himself at some girl, take her to an empty bedroom and forget her name when their clothes were put back on. No, Jack was finally ready for something more. He wanted to be like Alex, who had a girl on his arm that loved him. Or, like Rian, who barely knew what life was like outside of a serious relationship. Even Zack managed to keep a fling for weeks at a time.

Why wouldn't anyone take Jack seriously? Sure, his track record of being friends with benefits might scare some of the better girls off, but there had to be someone in this town that saw him as more than a manwhore, right? Then again, even if they did, five seconds around his friends and they'd change their minds. Jack honestly wished he could have some kind of secret relationship, one that the world and their gossip couldn't ruin for him.

If only.

"Jack, you look so sad. Why so gloom?"

A busty blonde with pink streaks in her hair plopped down beside Jack, a red solo cup in her hands that sloshed with every move she made. The girl didn't even have to open her mouth for Jack to smell the liquor lingering on her tongue. He didn't have anything against her, but he wasn't in the mood for her flirting tonight. They'd hooked up a few times and she always thought she owned him once they were done. Perhaps she could have been the girl he got the serious relationship with, but he wasn't in to her. At least, not like that.

"Just an off night, I guess."

"I can fix that for you. Want to go upstairs?"

"Not tonight, but thanks for the offer."

"Awe, come on, Jacky. How can you resist this?"

Jack, despite his best efforts, let his eyes trail across her body. The nurse costume definitely complimented her boobs and he was sure that when she stood up he could catch a clear glance of her underwear. Swallowing, Jack shook his head and sighed.

"You look great, but really, I'm not in the mood."

"Seriously? But you look so cute with your.. Well, what are you?"

"What?" Jack cracked a smile, though it wasn't because the girl was cute, it was because he was offended that she had no idea what he was for Halloween. "I'm Jack.. You know, from the Nightmare Before Christmas?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about, but you're still cute."

That was the moment Jack wondered why he ever hooked up with this girl in the first place. Obviously, they had nothing in common. Well, there was their love for sex. That must be it. However, that didn't make Jack anymore excited about sitting here having a conversation with the girl about a costume she didn't understand. He used the excuse that he needed a new beer to bail on her and even considered getting one, but that meant facing Alex and the rest of his friends and he just didn't want to deal with that. So, he tossed his empty and snuck out of the front door, the cold October air smacking him in the face.

He shoved his hands in his pockets and let his eyes dart to the ground in front of him. A chill went straight to his bones as he passed children on the streets, candy in their hands, and he deeply wished he were one of them. Life was so much easier when he only had to worry about school and play time. Even the Holidays were more fun, such as this one, where a stranger gives you treats and it's actually okay with your parents.. When your parents could cure the lonely feeling in your gut.

Another sigh fell from his lips as he picked up his pace. It was still early, if he moved fast he could get home in time to watch the Halloween specials on tv. He could shove his face full of food and strip down to his underwear. It wasn't ideal, but it was better than this.

Finding a spark of happiness in his new plans, Jack picked up his pace. He was almost jogging as he made his way through the streets, wanting to get out of the cold and back to the comfort of his bed. His feet moved swiftly and by this point, he was barely paying attention to where he was going.

That explains why his body crashed into something and it sent him flying on his back on the concrete. A grunt fell from his lips as he let his fingers trail to his mess hair. What the fuck was that?

"I am so sorry, I really should watch where I'm going," a voice came from in front of him, and it was then tha the noticed the figure of a girl standing up, obviously in pain. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, I think. What about you? Are you okay?"

She nodded her head, though it was obvious she wasn't, and extended her arm to him. Jack willingly wrapped his fingers around her small hand and pulled himself back up to his feet. A dull ache had now found home in his skull, but he could push it away long enough to thank this girl for her help and apologize again. He blinked a few times and let the pain sink in, his eyes scanning the girl, which made a smile come to his lips.

She had long, dark hair, which was whipping around her face with the wind. Her face was painted much like his own and she was wearing a tattered dress. Jack didn't know anything about this girl, but he knew she was perfect.

"I'm okay," she grinned, eyeing his costume. "You look really nice."

"Yeah," Jack chuckled. "I like your costume, too."

"Eh, well, most people have been asking me if I'm homeless."

"Don't worry. No one understood mine, either. At least no one other than my friends."

"How about that."

"I'm Jack, by the way."

"Seriously?" The girl giggled, a blush coming to her painted cheeks. "I'm Sally."

"You're shitting me."

"Nope."

Jack couldn't help but laugh. How ironic is it that Jack and Sally were to bump into each other, dressed as Jack and Sally? It was almost like fate. A beautiful girl who shared the same interests as him on such a cold, creepy night. Maybe this was his moment. The one girl that wouldn't use him for sex. Clearing his throat, Jack decided to go for it, figuring he had nothing else to lose.

"I know this is a long shot, but would you maybe want to come watch lame Halloween movies with me?"

"Ya know what?" Sally grinned, tucking some hair behind her ear. "I'd like that, Jack."
