All I Ever Wanted

I boarded the plane with everybody else, my carry on slung over my shoulder. I found my seat, slumping down next to the window, setting my bag at my feet. I sighed and closed my eyes after buckling up my seatbelt. I heard someone sit down next to me, and I opened my eyes, looking at them.

"Hi. I'm Zack," he said. I smiled.

"Hi Zack. I'm Lizzy," I said softly. Zack stared at me, and I scrunched my eyebrows together.

"You're the girl Alex keeps talking about!" He said excitedly. I groaned.

"Why do I keep bumping into people who know Alex?" I asked myself more than anyone else. Zack laughed.

"It's alright. What are you on this flight for, anyway?" Zack asked. I sighed.

"I'm visiting my parents," I said.

"Zack, you're in the wrong seat." Zack and I looked up at Alex, and Zack stood up.

"It was nice meeting you, Lizzy," Zack said, and he left to find his seat. Alex sat down with a heavy sigh, and he rubbed his face.

"We need to sort some things out," Alex said. I frowned.

"You told me to say the word, and I did. And you hung up on me. This is all your fault," I said.

"I didn't want you to say it in a spur of the moment, which is what you did. You never even told me anything. How's Noah?" He asked.

"I don't know," I muttered. Alex raised an eyebrow.

"Why don't you know?" He asked.

"Because we broke up. He cheated on me again. You should be happy," I said, crossing my arms over my chest.

"That doesn't make me happy, Lizzy. When you figure out what you want, let me know," Alex said.

"I did!" I said. Alex shook his head.

"You were upset, and you wanted me. That doesn't count," Alex said.

"You don't know that. The past two weeks it's been Alex this and Alex that. You think I don't want you?" I asked.

"Yes, I do," he said.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because you ignored me," he said.

"You ignored me first!" I said. Alex turned to me.

"If you really want me, we'll be in California for three days. On the third day, if you haven't proved yourself by sunset, we'll see where we end up. Alright?" He asked.

"You're going to blackmail me? Like Ursula did to Ariel in the Little Mermaid? Really?" I asked. Alex shrugged.

The flight was shitty. Alex and I argued the whole way to California. We were still arguing by the time I spotted my parent's car in the pick up zone. Both my mom and dad were standing next to their car waiting for me.

"Whatever, Alex. I'll see you later," I said. He grabbed my arm, and he pulled me against him for a hug. I accepted the hug, wrapping my arms around his neck tightly.

"I'm sorry," I muttered. He squeezed me, and I closed my eyes. This is what I wanted.

"I'm sorry too... maybe we're both just a little ignorant," Alex said with a small laugh. I pulled away from him, smiling a little. I resisted the urge to tell him I loved him, and instead I kissed his cheek. I picked up my bags, and I walked over to my parents, smiling at them as I hugged each of them. My dad took my things, and he put them in the trunk of his car.

Hopefully I could win Alex over by the third day...
