When It's Broke It's Perfect

I find myself looking everywhere for just a way out of this store before he sees me. Before I find my way out I hear Jack yelling my name from the doorway.
”Caliiiiiiiiii I missed you!!!”
Shit they saw me. “Hi Jack Jack” I say meekly with a soft smile.
I have never felt so awkward in my entire life. There he was, Zachary Steven Merrick, standing next to our best friend just staring at me; well actually at my protruding stomach but we will pretend he was staring at other things. We stood like this for a good minute until he broke the silence.
“You look good Cal,” he says looking me up and down.
“Thanks”
I can see Lisa and Jack just waiting for one of us to bring up the elephant in the room and looking in between us two.
“So…” I say trying to find a reason to leave.
“Maybe we should leave you two alone,” Lisa says. She probably could tell I was looking for a way out and was not going to allow me to avoid telling the father of my baby he is going to be a dad.
“Yeah we tots should!” Jack agrees.
When he agrees I can’t help but shoot him the meanest look around. But he just brushes it off and skips out of the store with Lisa. God damn it this is why I have been avoiding public places.
“Want to go on a walk?” Zack asks me
“Sure”
I might as well get it over with since we are both here. We stop at Jamba Juice and grab smoothies then head towards the park in town.
“Is there something I am missing Cal? Everyone seems to know something I don’t know and is being awkward.”
“I don’t think anything has been awkward,” I answer
“Really Cali? What is going on?”
“There is something I need to tell you Zack, ” I say while looking at him pleading for him not to make me tell him. He just stares back.
“I...um…”
“Just spit it out”
“I will just let me process it okay,” I say sternly back. “I’m having a baby,” I finally blurt out touching my small belly.
“Your what?”
“Having a baby…”
“What? How? You moved on quite quickly don’t you think?”
“No Zack I have not moved on…” I just sit there letting it process in his mind.
“Wait… Is it my baby?”
“Yes” **just stay calm Cali**
“AND YOU ARE JUST NOW TELLING ME?!?!?!” He replies jumping up.
Now he's getting mad. Great this is why I didn’t want to tell him.
“You wanted a clean break Zack. I didn’t want to bother you with a baby.” It sounded quite condescending but it was true.
“That’s not fair Cali. Don’t turn this on me.”
“What do you want me to say Zack?” I answer feeling defeated, “do you want me to beg you to love me for this baby’s sake and ask you to be with me forever? You know I am not that kind of girl!” Now I was getting irritated. “You know what, you’re right, I should have told you but look at it from my perspective, exactly 16 weeks ago you made love to me one last time and left me because you were “sick of seeing the hurt in my eyes” and I end up pregnant. This,” I point to my stomach, “is something I am prepared to take care of myself so that you don’t have to see that hurt any longer."
With tears beginning to well up in my eyes, “if it is okay I am going to leave now and find me some clothes for work that fit. Have a nice life Mr. Merrick”
He just sits there. He doesn’t go after me. He lets me walk away. So much for the fairy tale every girl wishes for.

Wow it's been 2 months! I am so sorry my reader(s). Time has definitely gotten away from me. Hopefully this chapter made up for it. I know where I think I am going to go with this fic so hopefully I will get on it and get chapters to you ASAP.
